Yeah, I remember that, and that shitstorm was ridiculously stupid. And I love Twilight Princess.

I don't remember it getting a lot of bad reviews, and it has a 74 on Metacritic, which isn't TERRIBLE. I think a lot of people are overplaying the negative reaction it got when it came out.

I really want Mercenaries, report back.

Ed Wood? No. I'd liken him much more to David Lynch - at least, Killer 7 definitely gives off a strong Lynch vibe. Lynch is another very divisive figure, but personally I like what little I've seen of his, for similar reasons that I liked Killer 7.

I think Battalion Wars is pretty good, I really enjoyed it. I never played BWii, was that any good?

182
Karl, are you joining the discussion?

183
I'm so happy right now. Killer 7 is a wonderful game and people who hate it should be sent to the gulag.

KILLER 7. PLEASE.

Oh, I forgot they got a Westerner as CEO. So he's probably making $50 mil or something.

Yeah, that's a pretty incredibly low number for a major CEO. I wonder what Sony's CEO makes...

Can I play the voice of reason here and play the middle ground.

Yes, the games are free and Nintendo doesn't owe them to anyone, but Nintendo is only giving these games to people that they feel over-payed for the 3DS. That effectively means that they are attempting to make up the difference in cost of a really early and very significant price drop for early adopters by paying them back in "free" games.

It's as if you already paid for them even if you never expected them.

That's all well and good, and it's a very nice bit of customer service on Nintendo's part, but my issue is with people who seem to think that Nintendo is OBLIGATED to do this.

Haven't you ever heard the saying that "the customer is always right"?

Sometimes I want to murder whoever came up with that terrible, terrible phrase.

It's true though. It doesn't matter how fair or logical the customer is, he's not going to give you his money if you don't give him what he wants.

In the context of all the 3DS owners who did give Nintendo $249 because, presumably, they wanted a 3DS, I don't see how that phrase is relevant.

Yep. The games are free. Nintendo does not owe them to anyone.

You're right Ceric, I missed that line. Good to hear.

I can see the 3D fine on both screens.

You can see 3D on the 2D lower screen? That's a pretty impressive trick!

196
Well, this is slightly irritating.

factor in R&D, shipping & packaging on a per unit basis when multiplyed by the expected sales of 100's of 1000's of units per region per month, and I came up with a generous cost of ~$50.

Can you enlighten us with the calculations you used to come up with that?

Well I feel like an idiot buying a 3DS day one.  I should have waited.  Picked one up in Aug with Zelda.  Oh well.

At least I get 20 free games.

I'm glad you get 20 games for being an early adopter and paying the outrageous price the 3DS launched at, but let's be clear. You deserve those 20 games as compensation. They are not "Free" because it is something you deserve and Nintendo owes to you.

That is absolutely untrue. For paying $249 for the 3DS at launch, Nintendo owes you exactly one thing: a 3DS at launch.

Kind of odd that you are trying to compensate (very nice of them indeed) for being an early adopter but why are the games for the Wii and not the 3DS?  Guess the assumption is everyone owns a Wii but I would think they would want to push people using the 3DS.

Or did I miss something and these are all coming to the 3ds?  I mean I already bought the legend of zelda VC for the 3ds.  Kind of confused as to where some of these games are going.

They're all for 3DS... the only Legend of Zelda game that's currently out for the 3DS Virtual Console is Link's Awakening, not the original NES game.

I just bought one used for $179. I'm excited.
