Nice!  Automatic update (added in v2.0.0) works great.  I opened my 3DS that was in sleep mode and a popup message said that an update was ready to be installed.

Tennis was released in Europe, not North America.

Thank you!

153
Where did you find Tennis?  It's not on the eShop.

Great news.  Hopefully, this is a sign of more good things to come with the evolution of Nintendo's online experience.

Just to clarify, is it the DX version?

Yup.  The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX

Not really a big deal.  I welcome the availability of Gamecube titles as a future addition to virtual console.

I am a new 3DS owner and am still figuring this new device out.  So far, I am a bit disappointed with the Friends List functionality.  It feels incomplete.  Hopefully, I am missing something?

1. I thought there was going to be a chat/instant messaging feature so you could message folks in your friends list.  No, the 16 character status message doesn't count.  Anyone know if chat a planned future update?  Maybe email a message or send a photo?

2. As you can see what game a friend is playing, is there any way to send a request to join them?  Can that only be done from within the game?

About 10% into the 3DS update download, it encountered an error and I had to power reset.

TalkBack / Re: 16 MB Limit on DSiWare Games
« on: June 06, 2011, 08:41:41 PM »
Hopefully, there won't be a defined size limit.  I wonder if you will be able to download directly to SD card and launch the game (or even run it) from the SD card.  That would provide developers some options.  I just don't want to see another super meat boy developer situation.

I thought the Wiiware size cap was bad at 40 MB / 320 blocks.

Has Nintendo mentioned anything about a 3DSware size limit?

161
Unfortunately because of finances I had to sell my DSi, deleted all my DSi store purchases when I sold it. So I guess all those games are lost and I'll need to rebuy them. Ugh.

So, even though Nintendo has record that your purchased those titles on the DSi, they will not allow you to download them for free onto your 3DS?

anyone else have an odd glitch when you leave your friends list it causes the 3DS to freeze?

Yep.  This just happened to me twice.  Kwolf's fix worked both times.  Hopefully system update 2.0.0 will fix this.

« on: June 03, 2011, 11:52:03 PM »
Sorry, but I don't understand the point of this comparison.  The MGS3 3DS is an enhanced PS2 port (mainly updated for 3D and use of the camera).  It's not new software that is built from the ground up to take advantage of the 3DS hardware.

TalkBack / Re: Non-Transferable DSiWare Titles Listed
« on: June 03, 2011, 12:24:29 AM »
That's too bad about Pinball Pulse (one of the best games on the service).

According to the page that the "broken" source hyperlink refers to, only 11 titles are not transferable (instead of 19 in this talkback thread).  Pinball Pulse: The Ancients Beckon is not on the list (excellent game, btw).  Too bad they are not stating why these specific titles are not transferable.  Instead of transferring, can you just re-download them to the 3DS as they already know you purchased the game on the DSi?

All DSiWare games currently available will be able to transfer with the following exceptions:
  • Asphalt IV
  • Earthworm Jim
  • Flipnote Studio
  • Let's Golf
  • Nintendo DSi Browser
  • Oregon Trail
  • Real Soccer 2009
  • Real Soccer 2010
  • SUDOKU MASTER
  • SUDOKU SENSEI
  • Sudoku Student

Actually, not bad considering the file size limit.  Next time you do a console port to Wiiware video comparison, please add a note that there is a 40 MB Wiiware size cap limit and the developers can only do so much.

Were you able to spend some time with the 6-player multiplayer Raid and Versus modes?  Those are big selling points.

Yeah, I don't know who was playing, but keep in mind it was their first time with the game, and they didn't tune controls to their liking. I wish the guy next to him was on capture (actually, he's on the livestream that I'll be posting)... he was killing it.

I got a headache after 4 minutes of watching that person play.  3 minutes in when he got stuck in the gas trap just annoyed the hell out of me.  Shoot the damn glass!  The game even gives you a clue!  Did you hear him tell you to shoot the glass?  Stop twirling around, bunny jumping and put the ASE away.  Shoot the damn glass, OK?  I had to stop watching.

When is the livestream going to be posted?

I think most of those maps look pretty nice.  I see that HVS spent extra time on little environmental details.  Notice that the foliage sways back and forth in reaction to the breeze/wind in the Lost City level - pretty cool.  It appears that the game engine is a lot more optimized in multiplayer than the prior game (as one would expect in a sequel).  Hopefully the visual downgrade from single player to multiplayer is not so jarring as in the prior game.  I read that the game supports post release patching and DLC.

Did you happen to write this review before the latest patch?  Did you know there are online patches available for this Wii game?  I count about 6 patches released so far for Wii COD BO.  Some of your mentioned problems during online may have been fixed.

While I do not currently own black ops on Wii, I find it odd that you make no mention of the online patching system (patches are downloaded to your console when you connect to Nintendo Wi-fi Connection). The support from a developer to patch a Wii game post-release is pretty awesome and deserves some mention.

TalkBack / Re: 3DS Friend Codes: One Per System, Works for All Games
« on: January 19, 2011, 01:36:28 PM »
A good step in the right direction, but I would have liked to see two steps.

I was hoping Nintendo would have implemented a more unified system where the friend code is tied to an actual Nintendo account (An email address registered with Nintendo or a Club Nintendo account name/email), not a device.

You should rename your Online and DLC segment to "Developer use of Online functionality and DLC".

The act of swapping separate friend codes for each and every game is definitely a hardship, but it's not really the fault of the Wii architecture, but the game developer.  Are you aware of what Wii functionality Vicarious Visions implemented in Guitar Hero 5?

Starting with Guitar Hero 5, the game automatically imports your Wii address book friends.  If other Wii friends have the game, you can immediately play Guitar Hero with them.  There is no need to manually send out invites with separate friend codes.  If you need to add a new friend, just add their Wii console code.

Vicarious Visions said that this functionality is available to all Wii developers.  Why aren't other developers doing this?  Shame on them.

I am having a highly enjoyable time playing through this game.  I am not a huge fan of Disney, but I am becoming more of one as I play through this game.  I find all the talk about the camera controls being horrible quite laughable.  I feel sorry for folks that don't try out this game based upon a poor review citing horrible camera controls.  Sometimes I am not able to turn the camera to look at another angle, but it's really NO BIG DEAL AT ALL.  I am 4 hours into the game and it's never been dull for me.  The overall presentation is awesome and animations top notch.  A lot of work went into this game and it shows.

I was hoping to load up the live stream on my iPhone browser, but apparently the flash "play button" to start the live stream isn't supported by the iPhone (at least it doesn't show up in the Safari browser...just a big blank white space below the RFN icon).  :(

Anyone have any idea how to stream this via my iPhone.  I can't sit by my computer for hours on end tomorrow but I want to catch the show.
The Skyfire browser supports Flash on the iPhone.

*EDIT* I was just checking out more on Skyfire and it appears it only supports Flash VIDEOS.  Flash apps and games are not supported.

Why not just cut the final recording down into multiple 2 hour episodes and upload them to iTunes (Doin' It Live part 1 of 6, 2 of 6, etc)?  It would be no different than 6 RFN podcasts.  The show would then be available to everyone regardless if they donated or not.

By making the podcast(s) only available to donors defeats the point of doing this special show.  I am sure future listeners may end up donating to child's play after the fact as they learn about it on the podcast.  You also lose the potential of drawing in more NWR website traffic and new members.
