Noooo!

When people are connected to the internet, you can't streetpass them! All those international streetpasses, gone!

I have the ROM already on the PoP: Forgotten Sands disc, but this is good news nonetheless.

Forgotten Sands on Wii is kind of astounding, by the way. If you see it, pick it up! Easily the best POP since Sands of Time.

I don't know if the HD version of the game is any good, all I know is it's entirely different.

There are tons of games on the VC with a CD soundtrack. Compression does wonders. I don't think it's the reason why SSF2 Turbo wouldn't show up.

I wouldn't call the Easy mode in SML2 unlockable, it's available from the start.

As for Tower Toppler, I'm surprised it's recommended for everyone. I can't beat the second tower, and I don't really want to. The limited lives and the absence of continues make the game too frustrating to be fun, to me.

It's okay, TYP. Sorry for being cranky.

Good show as usual.

I was gonna ask: nothing has been said about the TG-16 version? That's the one I got.

And does anyone know if people who have bought a game that's been pulled off the service can re-download it forever, even if it is no longer for sale? I think either Live or PSN do this.

You know what I realized listening to the banter about game 1? When you listen to multiple gaming podcasts, the commentary on certain games gets real old, REAL fast.

I can't stand the rants about the baby anymore. I just can't. I skipped forward in this case, and I normally never do that with Radio Trivia. The constant bitching about the dialogue in that game is one of the reasons why I unsubscribed from the Newscast (the constant bitching about EVERYTHING being the other reason).

Not that I'm defending the dialogue: it blows. Badly written and badly acted. We all know it.

I just can't hear about it anymore.

Excellent. The game was short and easy, but did some interesting things.

Any chance decent sales could help bring the much better Demon's Crest to the Wii VC?

I started listening to the episode, but didn't finish it. I don't care to hear this particular crew ever again. Plus, none of them was at E3, so what's the point? I can provide better impressions than these guys.

Good podcast, thanks for this.

I am just wondering though: you guys are all okay? No one hurt or homeless or anything of the sort? Hang in there...

I beat this game for the last time in my life just last week, not using the Warp Pipes at all. I played the game plenty at friends' houses but never owned an NES myself.

I hope someone told you about the "hold A press Start for infinite continues" trick before you set out to play this, Nathan. It made the experience a whole lot less frustrating for me.

Is the DKC3 game club in this episode? Or a previous one that I somehow missed?

TalkBack / Re: Jam City Rollergirls Review
« on: February 15, 2011, 12:23:31 PM »
I downloaded this game for a laugh: the friend who introduced me to roller derby was visiting that week and I thought it would be fun/funny, but he wasn't very good at it and quickly lost interest, insisting we play NHL Slapshot instead (a game he could consistently beat me in).

But later I played a bit of the single player (on the hard mode, thanks to your review), and it is surprisingly fun. Playing it, I found myself really surprised at how well the sport translated as an arcadey video game. And on Hard it's just the right difficulty, I can win but it's a struggle each time. I'll definitely complete at least one season.

I've actually bought this game due to the lack of user-friendliness of the DSiware shop. I had a 7 hour bus trip ahead of me and needed a new game quick and didn't get past the D's on the shop. I thought I had heard good things about this game so I picked it up.

And yeah, the game is pretty much impossible. I may have beaten the first two levels, maybe just the first one. I doubt I'll ever go back to it again, way too frustrating.

I wish I had remembered back then that there was a bunch of tower defense games from Q-Games that I could have downloaded instead, all of them pretty much guaranteed to be better.

Oh come on! I'm such not a stranger. Greg totally talked about my insane Pac-Man CE DX score on episode 228 or 229. Can you say the same? :-p

Hey, I don't usually post here, I usually stick to the Podcast Discussion or Talkbac forums. But this place seems like the most appropriate to post this in. Kind of like the Vesti on IGN, right? Except, I hope, better?

Aaaanyway...

I present to you the first official Negative World podcast! (AAC file format only. For now, at least.)

What's a Negative World, you ask? Not really important. I make a pitiful attempt to talk about it (and fail) in the intro, anyway. I just want to spread the Nintendo love to the second Nintendo board I frequent the most. Radio Free Nintendo was partly the inspiration to go ahead and try to start my own, so...

Does anyone of you podcast? Where can I find them? I'm suddenly more interested in listening fan-made stuff.

468
Hmm, there is way too much stuff unexplained in the tutorial or the manual in this game for my liking.

What's the use of the Training command when you're on the map?

I pretty much never play portables in public, and yet even in the privacy of my own home, yelling to get that girl's attention in Feel the Magic didn't seem like a wise idea when you live in a thin-walled appartment building.

Oh, and I finally got around to listening to the episode. I really wish I has Photoshop skills. Where do people pick those up, anyway? The skills, I mean. I know where they get Photoshop...

I am not far into the game, finished 2 story missions (saved the prince then killed off the rebels). Right now, I'm liking it. It seems more accessible than what I had imagined. I'm winning battles pretty handily despite making an effort to use my weakest units. The one thing I don't get right now is the alignment going up or down. Maybe I'm confused with what I read about the SNES game, or about Tactics Ogre, but aren't you supposed to fight units above your level to get your alignment to go up, or something? If so, how the hell do you check an enemy unit's level?

Alternatively, the strongest/weakest enemy may be changing as the battle goes on, since "strongest" and "weakest" refer to remaining HP, not combat strength.
Woah. If that is true, then doesn't that make the order "broken"? Since it is supposed to be the option to choose "if you want to get rid of enemy numbers quickly" according to the tutorial? It would in fact make it one of the slowest options.

2. Is it possible that the front facing camera of the 3DS could be used to track your eyes and move the sweet spot accordingly?

No. First, it's the same camera that the DSi has and the DSi can barely track your head, let alone your eyes. Maaaybe if you're in a very, very, very well lit area (can't stress the importance of lighting enough), but even then, I don't see how it would be possible to move the "sweet spot". It's not as if the orientation of the pixels physically changes when using the slider.

Unless I don't understand what you mean?

I think it is, even though it's not perfect. I have some issues with each table, but the real treat is the leaderboards. They are really well done and do things I really wish Pac-Man CE DX implemented, for instance warning you when you are about to beat your own high score, then the score of the friend above you, and so on.

The game keeps track of all sorts of stats, and even compares the total of your scores with those of your friends, so you can compete for the highest overall score that way. I love that stuff.

If you intend to actually play and try to beat your friends' high scores, then yes, it's worth a purchase.

474
Hey, have fun.  This game IS complicated, but it's not as complicated as people say it is and it's by far the easiest game in the series to get into.
I'll try!

I'm pretty convinced that the SRPG genre isn't for me. I've played Fire Emblem and Disgaea, and neither felt as good to me as Advance Wars does. But I'm always willing to give it a try!

Thanks for the tips. And yeah, at a glance it does sound a bit less intimidating than the SNES game, for which I've recently found an essay on Jeremy Parish's website. It's an interesting read though, for sure, and I'm guessing a lot of what he explains carries over in the sequel.

475
I cannot wait to get started!

Does anyone here have tips to offer for people playing Ogre Battle for the first time?

One thing I hate about SRPGs is that I often feel they're a downgrade from pure strategy games, because of the random elements they add that you cannot know about unless you've played the game already or are using a guide. For instance, the whole idea of using some item to change class in Fire Emblem. Apparently, there is an optimal time to use those items, but exactly how would you know that you're not supposed to use them as soon as you get them? And these games are so long, multiple playthroughs are out of the question for normal gamers, so really, these things to me seem to serve only one purpose: sell strategy guides.

Anything like that in Ogre Battle? Any early-game decisions that noobs can make without thinking twice about it and that will completely screw them out of a chance to finish the game?
