Oblivion, thanks for the response!  That's cool to know it gets the job done for both Wii and WiiU games.  So, I would assume that if you're using it on your WiiU to play Wii games, it should work just fine for Wii Virtual Console and WiiWare... besides the shitty D-pad issue.

So, I never bought a Classic Controller or Classic Controller Pro for my Wii.  I used a Wavebird to play Gamecube games.  Now, I know you can't use a Wavebird on WiiU.  I also know that the new WiiU Pro Controller won't work for Wii Virtual Console or WiiWare games.

Does anyone know of a good controller that will work for Wii Virtual Console, WiiWare, and WiiU?  I saw the "Controller Pro U" on Amazon.  The reviews on Amazon are not dazzling, but I wanted to see if anyone on the forums has tried it, and what their impressions are.  I'd love it if I only had to buy 1 controller.  Thanks!

@Danny

I was wondering if you ever picked this up.  If so, what did you think?

I was just checking the site to see if anyone ever reviewed it, but I guess not.  I picked it up a couple weeks ago and just finished the main story mode.  I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised at the open world environment.  You can literally walk from Hobbiton to Mount Doom, and everywhere in between (if you were so inclined).  As other LEGO games are, there is a lot of fan service.

I realize that a lot of people on this site are down on the LEGO games, but I was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts on this one.

Greg Leahy, they listened to you, man!  You were always right that it should have been Yoshi's Epic Yarn, that his tongue was perfect for the game's "whip mechanic".  You are vindicated.

Yes, I'm an Amish guy who just bought a WiiU.

I know it sounds stupid, but I bought the TV like 4 years ago and at the time, I was pretty much at Amish-level knowledge when I went out and bought it, not paying attention to the resolution.  Our old tube-style TV broke and I just needed to replace it.

So, as I've only had a Wii and a DVD player hooked up to it ever since, when I turned either of those devices on, "480p" would pop up in the corner.  I assumed that was all it was capable of.

Nintendo Gaming / WiiU Settings Questions
« on: January 04, 2013, 02:36:29 PM »
Hello Everyone.  I just got my WiiU and have been messing around with the settings.  There's a couple things I was hoping to change and thought I might as well ask this fine crowd before spending hours digging around.  Thanks ahead of time!

1. Is there a way to make the "Wii style" menu the default Home screen on the TV.  From what I can tell, it forces the Plaza on the TV and the "Wii style" menu on the gamepad.  I'd like that reversed.

2. Is it possible to remove some of the floating icons in the Plaza?  For example, one of my current floating icons is the Settings button.  Kinda stupid.  I'm sure they represent the most used apps, but I was hoping it could be customized.

3. The edges of the display are going off of my TV screen when I'm on either Home screen (Wii-style or Plaza).  Can I adjust this?  There are not options in the general settings to finely adjust the width and height of the display.  Has this happened to anyone else?  I find it bizarre.

Wanna know something funny?  I just got my WiiU, hooked it up, and it's running at 1080p!  I THOUGHT my TV was only a 480p b/c I've never run anything in HD on it!!  I'm super-psyched!!  I honestly couldn't remember from when I bought it.

Thanks for all the responses.  Glad I didn't use the word "graphics" in my original question.   :P:

My 480p TV is a 32 inch TV and I sit probably 6 feet from it.

Quick question for those knowledgeable on the subject.

My current TV's highest resolution is 480p.  I still do not have a WiiU, but am planning on buying one.  Will the WiiU games only look like very nice looking Wii games because of my 480p limitation?  Thanks!

I thought I found the solution to my predicament (wanting to buy WiiU with built-up Amazon credit, but Amazon's not selling it directly), but let me save anyone else the trouble - you cannot purchase GameStop gift cards with Amazon credit.  I threw $375 dollars worth of GameStop gift cards in my Amazon shopping cart and was about to pull the trigger when I noticed that none of my Amazon credit was applied to the total!  That would have hit my credit card hard!  Upon further research, Amazon does not allow you to purchase any gift cards with Amazon credit.  Maybe it's like money-laundering?   :Q

Zach, I've never laughed harder on this site.  You're even funnier than normal when you're in an extremely jovial mood!

I'm also in the camp of having to be graced with permission for a big purchase like this.  That is why I started banking Amazon gift cards via my credit cards reward program for the past year.  And THAT is why I'm royally screwed now.  Stupid Amazon.

This game truly blew my mind.  I actually picked up a copy sometime around 1999-2000.  It was in an SNES bargain bin at Toys-R-Us for $8 (this is also where I picked up Mario World and Mario All-Stars for $8, as well as MarioKart and all 3 Star Wars games for $5).  Pretty much my best haul ever.  To finish the story I went right from Toys-R-Us to a friend's house and got stuck there because of a huge snow storm.  All I wanted to do was brave the weather and drive to my house so I could try out SMRPG with my brother, but my friend's parents wouldn't let me leave due to the weather.  I can still remember reading the instruction booklet cover-to-cover on their couch where I crashed for the night.[/size]I bought SMRPG because it was a Mario game that I never actually heard of.  At the time I also didn't know what an "RPG" was!  This was my first RPG. I totally fell in love with it.  My brother and I were totally blown away by it because we never played anything in the genre before.  We still just call it "RPG" to this day.

I don't want to be beating a dead horse here, but I have another question:

Would it make any sense to try to buy WiiU on Amazon UK, since Amazon US isn't selling it?  Compatibility-wise would there be any issues because of region locking?  Also, I wonder if I would be able to use my Amazon credit on Amazon UK....

OK, so regarding the whole Amazon not selling pre-orders issue... Does that mean that Amazon may not sell WiiU directly AT ALL?  If that is the case, when would everyone guess you could buy a WiiU at retail price (not $600, like people are selling them for on there now)?  I just want to try and get a grip on how long I may be waiting to buy my Deluxe WiiU off Amazon for $350.

notice in the press release is says "dozens of characters" will be available.  i'm really excited about this game...

Wow.  I'd love to see some screenshots of the menus and stuff for the combo disc.  Do you guys think it will just have you choose which game you want, then it will boot it up, or do you think the 2 games will somehow be merged into one?

Amazon is not even selling Nintendo hardware at all (they are still whining because Nintendo wouldn't give them special treatment last year), so I wouldn't hold my breath on them selling Wii U at all, yet alone pre-orders (you will be able to get it from third parties on Amazon, but not from them directly).

Wow.  What a massive bummer.  Looks like I'll be missing launch.  I HAVE to buy it on Amazon...

I'm still holding out for Amazon.  I've been saving up Amazon credit to buy a WiiU.  Anyone heard any news on whether or not pre-orders are going to happen on Amazon?
