I can strongly advise against Tale of Two Towns. It de-emphasizes the farming heavily imo, while ratcheting up story and cooking.

I don't know why they are doing stuff like that. Do they even know what the fanbase wants? Maybe it's just me, but I NEVER get the cooking recipes. I just want to farm, upgrade my house, and get married.

I can only guess that the development team gets tired of making the series, and thus tries to throw new things at the wall. But yes, I agree with you completely.

True-but-sad story: I nearly plunked down $50 to preorder the game from Natsume, just so I could get the cow plushie. >_>

That's another story. I did really like FFIV...

You, sir, are good peoples.

Okay - so let's be honest - no, the Nintendo Channel data isn't even a remote indicator of how well the game sold.

(Question though - do you have to open the Nintendo Channel on a regular basis to send the data?  I thought it did that automatically via the WiFi Connection....)

That's why you can't really compare this number to raw sales data of other games.

But what you CAN do is compare it to the play data from other games.  To me, the results of this are quite interesting.

The problem is that other games came out when (I suspect) much more peoples dropped in on the Nintendo Channel.

I haven't played either of the Wii games.  Any recommendations of which one to buy?  Animal Parade looks to be considerably cheaper on Amazon but I can't imagine finding either used for fairly cheap would be a problem.

I'm afraid I can't really recommend either one. Magical Melody is the best of the three, but you've already tried it... Tree of Tranquility is the better of the two remaining, although it really emphasizes the farming over the other aspects.

Nintendo of Japan pays attention to GameStop? That's like an American paying attention to what GAME does in the UK.

How so? Nintendo "of Japan" is basically just Nintendo; despite what many of its actions might imply, their main concern is with the company's worldwide performance, not just Japan's.

Never got to try Friends of Mineral Town. Shoot, I never even saw it on the shelf. But I always wanted to try it.

apparently the Wii U is also going to be sold at a loss (initially).
Why should i care?

Whether you care or not is entirely up to you.

I would point out, though, that this may give us some indications about what Microsoft and Sony's next consoles are likely to have under the hood. That, in turn, is important because if those systems aren't magnitudes more powerful than the Wii U, third-party ports are more likely to occur.

So, games.

There are at least six Rune Factory games that I can think of (1,2, Frontier, 3, Oceans, 4). They're all fairly different from each other, especially Oceans, so a feature on them would have less breadth but more depth, I'd imagine.

Harvest Moon 64 is widely regarded as one of the best games in the series, and it's early enough in the series to be very easy to get into. Unfortunately, it's not on Virtual Console. :-/ The Playstation 1 game, Back to Nature, is almost as good, but it's more complex too, so it might not be the best entry point.

Fortunately, Harvest Moon GBC is coming to the eShop in a month or two. I haven't played it, but since it's basically the SNES game with weaker graphics it should be a splendid place to begin.

And finally, Natsume's too cheap to license music!

But how does that ultimately benefit the ESRB? It sounds like it'd just be more work for less money, no?

There's gotta be more to the story than this. I'm surprised to see the ESRB letting money slip through its fingers!

The first two caveats will have a significant effect on the numbers, making me question how accurate they are. But it's that third one that is the real killer for me.  How many people still check the Nintendo Channel with any regularity?  And more importantly, why?  What does the Nintendo Channel currently offer that should interest me at this point in time?

I'll echo that question. I honestly can't think of anything there that compels a person to log on anymore. Are they even still doing Nintendo Week?

243
Glad to say yesterday's results were largely predictable. Normally that'd be boring, but considering how many sub-.500 (non-spread) weeks I've had this year, it's a refreshing change of pace. And boost to the ego!

I'm with you. I've been trying to do dual analogue for three generations now, and the results have been nothing but failure. If you find anything that works, please share, because mere practice hasn't been enough for me either.

In most industries if you're behind you're dead.  I think Nintendo has been incredibly lucky to have avoided that so I don't know why they're cool with remaining behind.

I'm presuming it's because last generation they generally haven't actually been "behind," at least not in the categories that matter most to the majority of the general public. Whether they actually fall behind in ways that matter going forward is still up for debate, of course.

I'll be there on Wednesday. With my shiny* new set of armor. Now I'm just one Tusk+ away from having the strongest ice lance, so Barrioth and I might finally go our separate ways!

*I suppose "furry" is more accurate.

Oh God, I'm a furry now!

This "spread" thing is the worst idea ever!

The whole point of having a spread is to make it harder to predict. If done properly, there's a 50-50 chance of getting it right.

I understand that.

And after last night's game, this "spread" thing is the worst idea ever!

With Agna the best things you can do is to use a flash bomb as its head is facing you. This will stop the beam altogether. Make sure you time the FB right or you will be hit by the beam and be a safe distance away when throwing it. If you are far away from Agna try to close the distance and then do a Superman dive to avoid the laser. If you are close to it when it starts the beam then you can get in there and hit it if you are quick enough.

You think you can play tonight?

Flash bombs: got it! For whatever reason my superman dive skills are...weak.

As for tonight, I gotta keep my friend company during the Niners game. His nerves have skyrocketed after Sunday's game, so I promised him food and booze.

So my questions are: how many AKB48+Me preorders has James put in, and which of their songs is his favorite?

On a far less important note, how much advertising did Bravely Default receive? I believe its Square-Enix's most successful new IP in at least five years, so I'm wondering if that's due to heavy marketing or if the umpteen demos and Nintendo Directs are responsible.
