Has anyone had ANY luck actually submitting a survey in the last week or so? Every time I try to submit one, it fails to submit and the system just acts like I never tried.

Mine went through alright.

Edit: Just did another one to test it, and that one also went smoothly.

Isn't Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate just the console version of the 3DS game, with added online?

I wonder if they'll release any compilations in the future, like the Bit.Trip series.

Isn't Bit.Trip.Saga coming to the eShop soon? (and for only $15 to boot!) Or do you mean other compilations?

I'm not sure that you're wrong about that. What I'm saying though is that, if that is correct, then the Wii U might have a long-term perception problem. Paying more for a "better product" is a pretty natural course of action. If people think paying the extra bucks is an issue, then might that not imply that they see the Wii U as being roughly on-par with the 360/PS3?

I'm not expressing myself very clearly here, but couldn't it be that for someone to prefer to pay $250 for an old system with five games instead of $350 for a new system and one game is that they may see the two systems as being roughly equivalent, so that the "cheaper and with more games" part trumps the "newer and with the promise of better future games"?

Would you say the same thing about why the PS3 didn't sell for the first two years?

No, for two reasons. First, the PS3's actual costs ($599/$499) were simply too high in absolute terms. Second, the 360's tech leap was about as high, and that system was a mere year old.

The cost of current generation game development is still not cheap. Until this is fixed then I do not see Sony and Microsoft's next consoles being that much of a leap over the Wii U. The entire industry has a vested interest in driving down costs for their own survival.

Didn't EA say a while ago that either Dead Space 3 or Mass Effect 3 had to sell five million copies just for them to mae a profit?

I don't recall that final quote one way or the other (not saying it wasn't said, just that I don't remember it), but I definitely think development costs are already too cost-prohibitive for the long-term health of the industry. That said, I'm decreasingly convinced that most of the big publishers care, and I'm not certain that the smaller developers (are there even any mid-sized developers left?) have enough say on the matter to do anything besides go handheld-only or make indie digital games.

In November the 3DS sold on average more than 100k each week? That's good right? What was DS selling at its peak monthly?

In Novembers? In 2006 it sold 916k, which (if it's a four-week month) averages out to slightly over 200k per the NPD. In 2007 that number improved to 1.53 million, held about steady in 2008, and increased yet again in 2009 to 1.7 million. That proved to be the high water mark, as it went down to 1.5 million in 2010, and then crashed last year.

Basically, the 3DS' performance, while not terrible, isn't great either.

I think that's a pretty good number for Wii U, all things considered. There were some crazy deals for both PS360, so the Wii U was by far the most expensive system on the market in November.

While I understand your underlying point, I'd be concerned if the lower prices on rival systems really stole significant sales from the Wii U. That would imply, in my opinion, that the public generally sees the Wii U as being akin to the six and seven year old systems, or at the least that it's an unnecessary upgrade over those systems.

Also even if Durango/Orbis are both big tech jumps it doesn't excatly mean that Budgets will go up.

Folks said similar things last generation, along with the argument that costs will decrease over time as the tools improve. I don't think it'll be true this time either.

I suppose. But Assassin's Creed III is a new title, while Arkham City is a port of a one-year old game, albeit with a bit of additional content.

I'm a bit surprised to see Assassin's Creed 3 sold less than Arkham City.

I'd say the review is spot on. It's a fun arcade-style game, but it gets bogged down by adding on too many unnecessary layers. The way you refuel is one such example, as getting the can all the way down to the final level while still juggling all the luggage is simply a chore. Disguising luggage was also a facepalm worthy decision.

In spite of all that, I liked the time I put into it. If it had been over $5 I might be singing a different tune, but for what I paid I got my money's worth.

I've seen lots of pictures of people drawing Mushroom Kingdom! Although I expected the houses to be less tall...

Mushrooms occasionally have that effect.

I'm pleasantly surprised Harvest Moon released digitally. I really wanted it to always be on my system, so I'm glad I was lazy enough to not pick it up sooner!

I'll miss the cow plushie, though. :(

That's pretty low for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, no?

Not at all. I believe the two DS ones had a similar first week combined and ended up selling over 1 million combined. They tend to have very long legs.

My understanding though is that the first two DS games were simply remakes of the GBA games. Is that incorrect?

New thread would be cool with me. I'm concerned though that we might end up missing some of those massive Wii sales.
