Awesome article.

Though that screenshot of the Lost World is from DKC2, not 3.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Who's still buying a 3DS at launch?
« on: February 06, 2011, 08:39:31 PM »
I'm still considering buying a 3DS at launch. The only game on the horizon that I absolutely want is Paper Mario 3DS, and its release date is still TBA... not sure about PilotWings Resort or Nintendogs + cats.

EDIT: I've also been thinking about The Sims 3. My computer is most likely unable to support the game (I've had it for nearly 4 years with no hardware upgrades), so if the reviews for the 3DS version are good I might buy that game.

Perhaps the decision to release KEY first was smart on Nintendo's part. The easiness of the game might have helped usher in some new Kirby players, and the new Kirby game, which appears more true to the Kirby formula, will draw in fans of KEY. This new Kirby game may probably be a lot harder and may also utilize the Super Guide.

TalkBack / Re: 3DS Able to Import Miis From Wii, Unable to Export Them
« on: January 19, 2011, 08:27:49 PM »
I am assuming that when Mii Channel development was finished, the "palette," so to speak, was finalized. All Wii games all need to contain the information for rendering Mii characters (it doesn't load things like textures or models from the Wii System Memory, only the necessary information), so adding more features to the Mii Channel just wouldn't work, because it would no longer be compatible with the palette in the Wii software. So, if a 3DS Mii was to be loaded to a Wii and then into a game, the game might crash because it has no data to render the Mii character from the palette it was originally given. Of course, this is just a guess, so...

Everyone knows that region locking is truly to prevent people from buying the same product (official, not bootleg) from other countries where it may be sold at a cheaper price. It doesn't prevent people from copying it and distributing it within that same country.

No Paper Mario 3DS? Oh well, there's already a shaky-cam vid of it:

Either way it's not as bad as the iPod Touch (2 hours).
2 Hours?! What the heck are you doing with it? I get more than 10 on one charge.

Using the MotionPlus pointer for item selection seems to be really intuitive. Using it long enough creates muscle memory, so the "reaching into your pocket to grab an item" simile seems really appropriate and quite useful for real-time fighting. You're not immediately distracted by navigating a menu.

The only problem may lie in coherently explaining this control to newcomers in such a way that it fits seamlessly into the story, doesn't involve Wii Sports Resort-length tutorials, and doesn't eventually require a trip to the manual.

Given the size of Zelda, adding more layers of difficulty might require a crap-load more time to be put into the game to ensure game balance for all situations. Putting more enemies in places or simply giving enemies higher HP and attack power is a cop-out. Easy difficulties may seem like a joke to even novice players, and most players will probably avoid the higher difficulty levels. A one-size-fits-all difficulty is just fine with me.

I wouldn't know. I've never played majoras mask.

*looks left, looks right* please don't smite me. :-[
I've only played the first game on the NES and Twilight Princess. I bought Ocarina of Time on VC a little less than 4 years ago and I played it for 10 minutes and quickly lost interest.

Didn't the problem with TP's story come from problems mid-way in development? I read somewhere that both the story and the game play were designed first (or at least by mid-2009) for Skyward Sword in order to avoid these problems.

Aonuma did admit that TP's world was too large and vacant, so they're supposedly fixing it in the new game by making it more dense.

When Miyamoto mentioned "the game is half complete" maybe they're adding the lefty option that 10% of the population is begging for.

Maybe games seem to suck more nowadays because of the Internet, where back then you simply bought the game and enjoyed it instead of reading everyone else's opinions about it and making them your own. Or, now that you're older your tastes have developed and you're quicker to point out the flaws of games rather than what makes them fun.

I loved the game "Road Runner's Death Valley Rally" and played it all the game when I was a kid, but when I looked it up recently it's said to be a terrible, awful game with bad level design and boss design. Though I don't buy licensed games anymore (Harry Potter ruined it for me), RRDVR is one of my old favorites. I often played it for the sake of playing.

You could also go back to your other games and try to 100% them. I have a large back log of games on my Wii that I have been neglecting for a while; I have put "Play Okami" on my list of to-dos before my winter break ends, as I literally have not touched the game in two years.

When I was playing DKC3 on VC last month, one of the BG layers disappeared out of nowhere and left all the bodies of water on the world maps as dark holes. It went away after resetting the game,  though.

what happened to that black and white horror game that was announced for Wii way back?
You mean Sadness? It was cancelled around a year ago. They couldn't make any deadlines because nobody on the development team could decide what they wanted to do.

Question for those who've played the game:

Does any of the music come from DKC2 or 3? Or is it all from 1? Because I loved 2's music a lot more.

Which hasn't been updated since May 2009. Most of those figures haven't. It seems like Nintendo just stops keeping track of sales of a few games after a while.

The one thing that was odd for SMW's setting.  For a world called Dinosaur Land, there's a surprising lack of dinosaur varieties...
Not to mention that many of the lands had food names.

The Bit Block gave the game a 7. They did not find any problems with the controls, aside from a few hiccups (they specifically said not to induce any waggle and the game does not take the power of your swings into account). They thought it was a good short game, given its arcade-style gameplay; the length more or less justified the overall $10 price. They did say that if you're not into buying the Wii Remote Plus, it's best you stay away from purchasing the package.

Hmm. I already have four Wii Remotes and two MotionPlus accessories... maybe I'll sell one or two of my remotes and replace them with WR+. My Wish List grows even longer...

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo: Wii 2 Not Necessary for 2011
« on: November 15, 2010, 09:14:32 AM »
Personally, I think that the fact we still haven't seen the Wii Vitality Sensor would indicate the next console isn't coming out for a while as Nintendo wouldn't spend too much time on a new peripheral for their current console when the next one is just around the corner. That, and the Wii Remote Plus as well. But... if the Wii 2 is backwards-compatible with all Wii software (and hardware), who knows?
