I can't believe a Donkey Kong (the original not Country) Maker was never even mentioned.

RSS is hard. Weirdly, I only broke the AAC feed (only). The MP3 one had problems from last week's show. Both are now fixed and show is subtly renamed.

Thanks, gotta get my RFN fix.

Is this episode not showing up in anyone else's iTunes feed either?

I basically never get sick when playing games either.  But de Blob totally messed me up.  The camera in that game was crazy and I would get the worst headache when playing that game.  It too bad because it was quite fun otherwise.

I've recently played through Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSone and everything Johnny was saying about Codename: STEAM was really reminding me of this game.  I love a lot of aspects of FFT, but I hated having to choose my team not knowing the map I was going to play on or what kind of enemies I would encounter.  Sure story missions would always be the same, but at best you had a vague idea of what to expect during a random battle.  And that's if you were paying attention to where it was triggered.

I never knew if I could send out my characters that needed leveling or if I was going to end up wasting my strong people on low level battles.  And it was pretty much guaranteed that I'd have to restart a story level once I knew what to expect.  The fact that there's perma-death didn't make anything easier either.

This is seriously a major problem in my mind.  Now I'm not so sure if I'm going to get this game.

I'm not saying Jonny is wrong, but I don't know if I'd take the bet that Starfox 64 3D has pop-in while the original doesn't.  I mean we are talking about a N64 game here.

Just finished the rest of the podcast and wanted to say one thing about Splatoon.  I 100% agree the game should have voice chat.  But I would never use it.  I play a lot of online Call of Duty and never use the voice chat.  I would say the majority of people who play the game don't use voice chat.  That doesn't mean it shouldn't be there, but if it isn't it won't really affect my enjoyment of the game.

You're kidding me, I thought there was absolutely no way the pokemon trading card game could win.
Shows how well I understand the Nintendo audience

No. It's followers of Radio Free Nintendo gleefully subjecting the panel to an RPG or the longest game if the opportunity presents itself for RetroActive.

And that's why I haven't participated in a RetroActive in forever.

As far as Club Nintendo goes, my first choice was Starfox 64 3D.  I always wanted the game but didn't want to pay the asking price.

The other games I'm mostly interested in are for the Wii VC.  But I don't think I'd really play them.  I might just end up doing some giveaways or something in March.

I don't think we predicted anything about Doc Louis, just stated that it had never been made available otherwise -- totally true as of that recording.

As for RE2, the original didn't use any sticks on PS1 -- we were explaining that the N64 port did add analog movement. The point is that it's not a strictly inferior port, though the drawbacks are major.

I was referring to James saying that they had to make weird accommodations to port the game to a one stick system.  RE2 didn't utilize the second stick in the Playstation version so there were no accommodations needed.  You mentioned the direct control, but I don't know what James was talking about.

Oh, I was also going to say Resident Evil Zero only starts on a train.  Just goes to show how much people have played of that game.  It did have some interesting advances despite still playing in the old style.  They had the character zap system where you controlled both characters at the same time.  Also they did some odd stuff with inventory management.  You could drop items on the ground or exchange them between characters.

It's been years since I've played Resident Evil 2, but I don't remember the game taking advantage of the second stick.  The real problem with the port was the severely compressed videos.

Hoping to see 'Regulate' in the highlight reel.

I can make that happen.

Thanks for the tips. I'll say that a lot of that information is definitely not apparent in the game, and I've played it for a few hours now.

I would also recommend doing the races in order from top to bottom.  The later races seem to assume you've done the earlier ones and have unlocked the mods from those races.  Once I figured that out I had less trouble beating races.

James, in FE: Awakening when you are on one of those child recruiting missions can't you just have the parent talk to them to make them a part of your army.  I've been able to do that in all the ones I've played so far.

I've recruited about four of the optional children characters so far, and you are able to recruit them by using Chrom or the child's mother to talk to them.  In most cases, attempting to recruit them with the father won't work (unless the father is Chrom).  There might be one exception with one child character in particular, but I haven't gotten far enough to confirm it.

Yeah, that's why I thought it was weird how he was handing that character.  If we are thinking of the same thing, the exception you're thinking of does require the father to talk to the child.

I went on basically the exact same odyssey Gui did trying to setup my friends list.  Glad to see I'm not the only one.

Any idea what happens to VC games that are now no longer on the shop.  Do they stay behind like Lost Winds?

I haven't found any old mines yet.  I have found a pretty big cavern with a lot of precious ores.  But also a lot of enemies.  I took care of the spawner and now I'm trying to light the place up so I can mine without being barraged by creepers.  Maybe I need to make a home in there so when I die I spawn nearby.

So much iron needed for rails.  I don't think I'll be building any of those for the time being.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Kid Dracula showed up on the VC.  It's not any more niche than Sword of Hope II or a handful of other gameboy games that have already come out on the service.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Which was better: Nintendo 64 or Gamecube?

It's really close for me.  I love both systems and they have a lot of amazing games.  But I'll give the edge to Gamecube just for Metroid Prime.  I love the Metroid series and the N64 not having one is a shame.

In terms of hours played, Mario's Picross is my most played 3DS game.  It definitely has some control issues.  But considering I do Picross-type puzzles with pen and paper in puzzle books, the whole black and white aspect doesn't really bother me too much.  But I do agree that the game would be so much better with little things like greying out what you've found.  Even though I love the DS Picross games I wasn't sure about their ancestor.  But obviously I really enjoy it.
