I second Ian's question of "What's the point?"

Especially on the DSi. The PSP's sunke nUMD movie format shows this stuff isn't all that appealing and I don't like watching movies on teeny-weensy-eye-strain-O-vision.

And why would they force you to D/L it from the Wii when you have the DSi Shop online already and waiting? I don't think it will make you want to get both a DS and a Wii. Same with DS downloads on the Nintendo Channel via Wii. You aren't going to run out and buy a Wii just so you can get free DS demos anytime you desire.

I think Nintendo should scrap this idea and use the money to bring over all those games they are wickedly not releasing in the West. I want Soma Bringer, ASH, Fatal Frame and heck, give us Captain Rainbow while I'm at it.

The absenteeism is probably due to peoples preferred game not winning so they refrain from playing at all. I don't hold it against them since it is their choice, but I do wish they would stick around for the game if they happen to have it even if it was not their first pick.

I'm sure they compare the two numbers when judging hit totals. Plus the amount of forum feedback could be another indicator of interest. Posts and views can relay that information to them.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii Survival Horror Franchises
« on: April 13, 2009, 04:08:45 AM »
Don't forget our one and only WiiWare survival horror type game! I'll post about that one for you.

Last Flight

Last Flight is being called a 'slasher' game similar to Devil May Cry's gameplay according to the developer, BlooberTeam. The premise begins with your character, Larry, a well rounded man with a tacky yellow shirt on a flight to Europe with plans to write a book. A woman named Anna who is sitting next to him is returning to her homeland to bury her 'deceased' father. During the flight some air turbulence disturbs the coffin her father rests in and he turns out to be a vampire that has been awakened. He starts attacking the passengers and turning them into vampires. You must try and survive the flight.

The game is planned as an episodic gaming experience broken up into four episodes over the WiiWare service. It will be cel-shaded and include a rather large amount of gore compared to your typical WiiWare fare. The story will be conveyed through comic strip like panels containing a good deal of black humor. The combat system will be gesture based and include an intuitive combo system. The game will also call up elements of classic point and click adventure games using the Wiimote. You can play as either Larry or the whip wielding Anna as you try to put down all the vampires. There will also be an alliance system where you can convince other passengers to work together with you.

The game will be a single player endeavor and is planned for release later this year with subsequent episodes coming 3-4 months apart from each other. I'm intrigued by it and wonder how they intend to get this on WiiWare. They sound willing to make it a disc based game if Nintendo balks at the idea of a bloody game appearing on their service so it is nice to know they intend to see it released one way or another.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wario Land: Shake It!
« on: April 13, 2009, 03:34:17 AM »
Wario Land is $36.99 on Amazon.

Speaking of platformers on sale, de Blob is $29.99.

For some reason I've stopped playing Wario Land. I don't know why but I haven't touched it in a few weeks. I love the game. I have been distracted by Tenchu, Pokemon Platinum and a new found addiction to Mario Kart Wii. But I'm think I'll go back tonight and play Wario Land as I'm only about halfway through the game.

The game has sold 590k according to VG Charts and does seem to go up a good bit each month so it may still have some legs in it. I'm willing to bet it will continue to sell decent through the rest of this year as gamers will probably want to pick it up while playing catchup. It might even break a million, though that is tainted with a dash of wishful thinking.

Crimm, out of curiosity, what are the most popular parts of the site? And do you take into account that some people may view certain articles like reviews only through the forums as opposed to through the main site? I know I do that a lot since I am always on the forums so if I see a new talkback thread I read the article there in the talkback thread and may not ever go to the actual sites page for that particular article.

14732
You had to live near one of the stores that was going to have the preview. It wasn't every GameStop, not even enough stores to give every state a viewing.

14733
Yes, but most things I can think of are purely speculation and guesswork. The only thing you can get concrete information from is checking the last time someone logged on and if it is within minutes then that should show if they are (or were) on.

You made Vertical Force sound good. Makes me want to try and find a Virtual Boy. The only experience I have with one is playing a demo system at a KB Toys way back in 1995 when I was 9 years old.

There were other LED colors available at the time. Yokoi selected red because it was the cheapest at the time to use. He originally wanted it to be full color but realized it would be way too expensive.

I knew that the games came with a recommendation to stop after 15 minutes or so, but I never knew they had a option to have the game automatically pause for you.

Think of it being similar to the 'take a break' screens in Wii Sports except a lot more frequent.

I got a VB for $24 plus a good number of games for $5 a pop during it's market downfall.
There are enough people on the forums that it would be neat to have an episode of RetroActive where we all played the VB plus whatever games we can get our hands on.

Here is a great site that chronicles anything and everything involving the VB and has a lot of information on the abandoned VB demos and projects like Star Fox, Goldeneye 007, Mario Land and Donkey Kong Country 2. Bet y'all didn't know some of those games were in development!

It's funny, I thought you would have liked the new box art better than the last one but here is enough hate to create a whole new rant. You guys should really make 'The Rant' a permanent and more frequent feature of the 'cast.

If you joined the NWR Wi-Fi night I'm sure you would find other people to play with you. You should join us next time.

The transformer bugs have a running mode that is different as well as all the kooky mini-challenges that are new.

How come you can see past 10, Crimm? Is that a mod power or something? I am curious what the rankings are below the top 10.

I don't mean the forums.
I mean the entire site.

You creepy stalking bastards.

I'm not a stalker, Crimm. I'm just a curious person :P

What do you mean by on the entire site? Is this including the main site along with the forums as in actual hits it gets? That is funny if it is true...your right, we are a bunch of creepy stalking bastards  :D

And what do you mean by finding ways around this Maxi? You aren't considering hacking are you? Or are you just reducing it to guess work based on what threads the anonymous people are in?

14738
I'm actually baffled by people just dropping their codes and running. 6 of the 8 people who have a code posted for FFCC: Echoes have only posted that one code and they haven't been on for more than twenty minutes each on average. Do they even come back to get more codes?

I don't like to just add random people's FCs. I prefer to know who they are or have interacted with them to some degree.

Why do you go into anonymous mode, Mop it up? I am curious as to why you do that.

Actually GP being set as anonymous makes a lot of sense because I always wondered why she seemed to be offline every time she posted something new. I thought maybe she was at work and logged one really quick to post a message and then leave really fast every few minutes. I could upset Maxi's strategy next mafia game by setting myself to anonymous though I don't see much of a use for why I would want to be hidden outside of that. I'm not one to hide and like to keep myself open for conversations with others that could crop up.

14739
Sorry, I could have phrased that better I suppose. I was more arguing that he is comparing apples to oranges.

Poop is a product of a natural bodily function. Making a game takes work and can turn out good or bad. It is not something that just happens like poop happens.

14742
Fun fact: Who's Online is our 12th most viewed page, you creepy bastards!
The page auto refreshes though.  If someone leaves it running in another tab/window (accidentally or on purpose, not knowing that it'll refresh), I could see how it'd easily rack up the views.  What's the top ten?

It's public information:
Official Wii Sales Thread         64268
Official Virtual Console Mondays Thread       55995
Official Avatar Discussion       43751
Mario Kart Wii Mega Thread       36763
Sony getting hit Hard lately       36399
"Hey I'm new!" Official Introduce Yourself to the Internet Thread       36206
The Conduit       34573
Official DS Sales Thread       34490
Animal Crossing: City Folk       34001
Amazing Deals!       33836

Go down near the bottom of the forum index and click "More Stats". It has the top posters, threads by views and by post among other things.

Another funny thing, I think it's odd that we get all these new people who just drop their friend code for games like Echoes of Time and then never return or participate in the forums.

Also, Vudu broke the 10k post mark recently. I like to look at the different forum stats. I don't know why, but forum stats and game sales are numbers I'm obsessed with. Too bad my personal stats don't seem to work right because my top ten boards by activity are all listed at 0% so I can't reflect on my own behavior. :(

Also of note is the competition for the top ten topics by reply as the PGC Aussie thread is still king at 4020 posts even though no one has posted there in a long while. But the Wii Sales thread is catching up with 3970 posts.

Also, this looks exactly the same as Excite Truck, and while I loved Excite Truck, no real new offerings means I won't be coming back for seconds.

Racing as transformer-bugs with 8-player online aren't new offerings?

The wheel's small size already makes it negligible in my eyes. A bigger one would be great!

A bigger wheel could be useful for a monster truck or 18 wheeler racing game ;)

I wonder if we'll ever see a new Stunt Race FX.

I remember wanting that gold N64 controller. Never bothered to try and get it though. How much are they going for on eBay now?

14746
I do want to see more stuff offered as rewards from Club Nintendo. I want to see the other DS games from the Japanese club.

I don't usually use the Nintendo Channel demos but then again I didn't reinstall it until recently when the storage solution made it more practical for that big channel to be allowed on my precious flash memory restricted Wii.

They've been doing this for a while in Japan so I think they know that some of the data will come at a delay from people holding on to points. They probably have it worked into their estimation statistics how many of us will hold on to points till the next year.

I'm 50 shy of the Platinum mark. I'll probably save some of them for next year if I do go over. I don't see much of a problem with waiting. Though I always have several surveys sitting there waiting to get done. I don't find as much of an incentive to do the surveys when I don't get coins for them.
