Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 57: The Halloween Spook-tacular!
« on: October 29, 2012, 11:02:30 PM »
You should do the Milli Vanilli episode next. I'd offer to help, but my commentary would probably be too dry and factual. For example:

The song originally used here is "Blame it on the Rain", which was written by Diane Warren. Diane would later contribute music to another Nintendo video game franchise when Billie Piper's cover of "Makin' My Way (Any Way that I Can)" appeared on the soundtrack to "Pokemon: The First Movie".

The only way DT gets on VC is if Capcom and Disney do another game together.

This is why we need Street Fighter X Pirates of the Caribbean. Now.

2. You forgot to mention song 2's eerie similarity to the "Skerries" theme from Blast Corps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Wx3NbM-KrI

Where can you still buy a Wii U? The answer is... anywhere!

All you have to do is start lining up outside the store 12 hours before it opens on November 18th. My Wii camp out experience back in 2006 was great (besides the freezing weather), and I'll be doing it again this year with Wii U.

While part of me loved the experience six years ago (I actually got mine just before Christmas rather than launch day), and would like to do that again, it's simply too much for me at this point, especially considering I'd have to work on the 19th.

Well, now Sears.com is out of the 8GB stand-alone, so only the Wal-Mart and TRU bundles are left.

156
Back on topic, it looks like the only place you can get an 8GB Wii U (the only model left, of course) online without a bundle is Sears. Wal-Mart makes you buy a pro controller and a game, Toys R Us makes you buy Batman and Scribblenauts.

157
Pre-ordered my 8GB model from Sears's web site (you have to dig through the site to find that one, so that's probably why it's still there). If something opens up later I may switch to the 32gb model, but I'm not terribly broken up about it if I end up getting stuck with the basic set.

For those looking into making games or learning game programming by example, I would suggest looking into the "Petit Computer" app on the eShop (also available as DSiWare). I haven't tried it myself, but it looks promising.

Interesting. I would have expected a 3D Nobunaga's Ambition follow-up, but not for a while.

I'm tempted to buy these, simply because of all the time I spend swapping carts at events where I get a ton of StreetPasses.

TalkBack / Re: The High Barriers to Entry in Competitive Pokémon
« on: September 06, 2012, 09:39:07 PM »
They could restrict everyone to rental Pokemon, but that would also limit customization, and personally I wouldn't want it to become the only form of competitive play.

One issue you could have mentioned (which ties into the others on various levels), is that unlike the Pokemon TCG, VG organized play has been limited to the upper levels (regionals and higher) for the most part. The lack of lower-level organized play is largely due to the technical hurdles (which have gotten smaller, but are still significant) involved in holding such events on a regular basis.

I would suggest trying SpeedX3D. It gets really tough really early, and I don't think it's that great, but it is an interesting experience.

By the way, about the game show-based game you mentioned on the sales chart, I think there was a US version of the show made a few years back called "Cha$e". As I recall, it was on the SciFi network.

164
Shame about RGC2. Maybe they can persue to eShop route if there's ever a third GCCX game.

TalkBack / Re: The State of Your Wii
« on: August 18, 2012, 10:12:27 PM »
I had my Wii repaired earlier this year because of Netflix. When the console stopped working, I tried using my iPhone 4 and sending it to my TV, but the interface just isn't as good there. I considered just getting a new Wii, but I didn't want to give up my VC games.

166
I don't see the Pokemon theme in that video. Is there an alternate version of the trailer?

I figured this would come. Hopefully I can get some pieces this weekend for the panel at the Pokemon TCG/VG World Championships. I'll definitely finish the Kirby panel.

TalkBack / Re: Wii Fit U Impressions
« on: June 08, 2012, 08:26:46 PM »
Given the Wii U's (probable) launch date, this is a good game to get out early since it'll catch on with the end/beginning of year and people trying to lose weight. It'll never sell as well as the original, but it is a good choice of time for a sequel.

169
Or you could import it. It is somewhat expensive,  but CDs don't have region-coding so it'll play just fine.

170
FYI, the soundtrack from the original B&W was also on four discs (HGSS was 3, DP, FRLG, and RS were 2 each), . It'll be interesting to see how much of this is new versus rearranged music.

171
I could believe in a Star Fox game where there's a code or unlock where you play as Samus's ship in multiplayer, but that's as far as I would take it.

2. You forgot to mention that there's a Japanese version of this game (minus the Domino's license). It was actually on an episode of Game Center CX. It'd be funny if it came over as an import VC title.

Greg, will you at least be on Radio Trivia every now and again? It's my goal to zing every RFN staff member with a crazy/dysfunctional game on that show, and I haven't gotten you yet.

Also, if you're still willing to commit to an occasional episode a la Famicast, I'd love to see a monthly PALcast that covers Europe. At the very least, you could occasionally do segments on Connectivity as others have suggested. It would be far too great a crime for you to go completely silent.

Stinger: You forgot to mention the TV cartoon based on The Mighty Ducks (and the derisive reference in Space Jam to the team name).

Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 11: LET'S GET GOLDEN!
« on: April 30, 2012, 10:36:19 PM »
I echo James's sentiment regarding a Blast Corps 3DS remake. It's also one of the games I'd like to see them tackle on Game Center CX.

Tech Tip: One of the people on the podcast was in the left channel only. I don't know if this was an editing mistake or an audio defect, but in Audacity you can fix this by splitting the stereo track (there's a drop-down in the channel controls on the left side), copying the audio over, then rejoining the stereo tracks. Make sure to listen to the audio afterwards so you can tell if the left and right are in sync. This is also a good idea in general to fix stereo drift in audio and improve compressability.

Time to buy a bigger SD card...

Not sure about Wii U however-I'd hated to have to have downloaded Brawl-at that point even if I could buy it online, it's more time-efficient to go to the store and buy the disc.
