Nintendo Gaming / Prime Easter Egg - Need Help In Japanese (Voice)
« on: August 29, 2007, 08:26:49 PM »
There is an easter egg my brother uncovered but it is in Japanese. If you reacitvate the secure keycode input device you use at the begining of the game and reinput the sequence. There is some Japanese dialog. I think it may be Iwata but I miss the where he introduces himself for those who don't remember. The sequence is the symbol second from the top, second from the bottom, the one two left of that then the top one.

TalkBack / RE: Wii Leads Way in July NPD Sales
« on: August 23, 2007, 07:32:36 PM »
I have been playing Bioshock I'm almost done with it. It's a great game but as usual not as good as the hype makes it out to be.

As for the number I don't think anyone expected them to be that good. At least the PS3 finally beat the GBA in sales for a month. As for it leading, amoung the two amateur tracking sites only vgchartz has it in the lead by 60k.

If anyone wants a slight laugh here is their "press release" on the Wii taking the lead. Here

TalkBack / RE: New Smash Bros. Story Details Revealed
« on: August 20, 2007, 09:07:59 PM »
Well this just goes up to show that ROBs are inherently evil and looking to take over the world. So any one that has one should lock the evil thing up lest they find themselves floating in subspace.

On a serious side this shows that the single player part is going to be better and more coherenent then the last one. Also it helps explain how they are going to explain the 3rd party characters in the game. (Hopefully this can also set up for other Mascot games in this vein..)

Oh does any one have a way to combine the two movies (I'll try the Microsoft solution in a bit) because it will be nice to watch what looks like the  begining FMV for the single player level in a more complete form. (Maybe they will have something on it at GC)

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Oldies but goodies for VC (Here is to wishing)
« on: August 14, 2007, 10:23:29 AM »
Well if the Metroid release is any indication we probally will not get Smash brothers until the last week of November, begining of December.

I would like like Mischief Makers.

As for games made by Broderbund, I don't think they made any of their games because one of the games they had for the NES I liked The Gaurdian Legend, was orginally made by a development team in Japan then ported by Broderbund.

TalkBack / RE: Wii Remote Supported By XNA
« on: August 10, 2007, 09:17:37 PM »
You know it is accually good for the smaller developer who are looking into development for WiiWare. XNA is a realitivly simple development solution where you can create a game using C# and DirectX to make a demo to show to Nintendo. (Which is one of the things I talked with Nintendo about last year, and they wanted a demo of software before making any commitment.) And if it is programmed correctly all you have to do is take out the component (classes) that are set up to use DirectX and replace them with simular classes that use the for form of OpenGL that the Wii utilizes without messing with any of the code of the game itself (besides the declarations for the changed classes). And you have a working Wii game.

In programming there is a practice known as extraction where you break up a program into many classes that each do a different job. So in effect you can make a program that you can easily port by extracting out the rendering, sound, networking and input each into a class which depends on DirectX/OpenGl, so there is little to nothing you need to change in the other classes to change them around.

As for the C# I guess the Wii can run games programmed in this language probally because it is derived for C++, because when I was doing an assignment for one of my classes yesterday I was at the Retro Studio's website looking at their job listing and one of the requirements was knowledge of C#.

As for the leagality of it there really shouldn't be any solid grounds for any suit because Microsoft isn't making any money off of this and they are not claiming that this is a Wii development tool just that you can use the Wiimote because it utilizes blutooth and I read up on how the liberaries came into exsistance and they were backwards engineered by looking at what the Wiimote was returning as information and working from there. As I said this makes me somewhat happy.

My 360 recently died due to the problem with the Red Rings, well I called and they sent me the information and stuff needed to send my console in. I have heard that the 360 had as much as 33% failure rate which high but it wasn't until I went to the UPS store to send it off to Microsoft did I get a sense of how much of problem it is. The UPS store I went to is Janesville WI which is a city with a little over 60,000 people in them.

For those who haven't had the fortune of sending out the 360, Microsoft sends you a very plain white mid-sized box to send the system back in. As soon as I entered with the box the clerk behind the desk said "Oh, so you are sending your 360 in to be repaired." I had to go out to the vehicle to get some change. (I had to reopen the box to afix the reference number so I needed to buy some tape.) The reason he knew it was the 360 is that he has handled so many and infact it was 7th 360 that day to be returned due to the red ring problem. (There was another one or two sent back for other reasons.)

Even though 60k people are a lot of people not all of them own consoles, and there are several places to drop off UPS packages for pickup and you can call to have them pick it up so I found it increadible that 6 other consoles were returned that day.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: 8 Biggest Wii games of 07
« on: July 20, 2007, 11:18:16 PM »
Well the thing is EA is big on the Internet playablity thing so I would be surprised if it didn't use the internet in some way.

I remember Miyamoto saying that he like Samba di Amigo for the Dreamcast. But if you think about it he makes games for a living when you get home from work what do you want to do first. Anything but what you were doing at work. It doesn't matter what industry you are in or how cool your job is. Once you get home you want to get your mind off of work.

TalkBack / RE: Rockstar's Table Tennis Announced for Wii
« on: July 19, 2007, 12:16:26 PM »
As for graphic that souldn't be a problem. They already have an engine for rendering and use of the controll with Manhunt 2. (At least we are reaping the benfits of the game even though it hasn't been released yet.) The engine make porting to the Wii easier because most of the hard parts are done. (Dealing with the graphics, sound and input.) The games, which sould of been done in either c++ or their scripting language which is defined by the engine, for the most part sould easily fit over the engine with some adjustments. All they would have to do is adjust texture and update the models, that is if they want to do a good port...

General Gaming / What happened to E3?
« on: July 18, 2007, 10:34:20 PM »
Pretty much what has been said but in one place.

The show has come and gone, the keynotes were bland, the companies mainly stuck to old news and nothing really big came out of the show. So that leaves the question what happened to E3?

Each company came to show a different idea of how it should be handled: Microsoft used the show to showcase upcoming titles that would be released in 2007; Nintendo used to show to showcase their casual gamer games seemingly leaving the core gamer behind; Sony came to the show to showpiece gamers that the games are coming. In this regard all three companies were successful at what they came to the show to do.
Microsoft came to the show to show off their current lineup that would be releasing in 2007, they did cover a couple games they'll be released in 2000 date unveiling Resident Evil 5 is coming to the 360. They tried in court nontraditional gamers by hyping the coming game Scene It, which is coming to other consoles, and non-gaming items that are coming to their Live services. At the end of their keynoted left many saying that Microsoft dropped the ball, and there is no way that they could “win” the show.  But they're keynote served to be more of a template and what the other two companies for going to do with their keynotes.
Nintendo's show came next and keynote address centered mainly on their nontraditional gaming titles, and how well they did the first year with the Wii, thus treating the keynote more like a press conference instead of the beginning of a game show. Leaving core gamers and some gaming press feeling the company has totally forgot about them. But the traditional press who attended left the show proclaiming Nintendo the best in the show.

Sony's keynote came last and then bearers were more like the keynotes from E3s of the past. They came and said the games are coming, they showed the games that many had questions about, but they still had no real announcements to make besides the redesign of the PSP.

                                                                                                                               So now why

The interesting thing about the question of why the show was like the way it was, is also the same reason why the ESA slimmed-down the show in the first place. E3 was originally the biggest game show on the planet. So it attracted crowds and other people that shouldn't have really been there, making it almost impossible to cover the games for the press.  But because it was so big the gaming companies knew that any major announcements made at this show, would be talked about, hyped up, analyzed and reanalyze, by both the press and the gaming community.

But when it was slimmed-down long depressed to have time with the games it also had the detrimental effect of taking away companies he used to come to the show, but also eliminated it as the number one show in the world, lust making it so major announcements would be better received than other shows. To make a comparison between the old and new show, the old show was hosted in a building with three auditoriums each the size of about 2 ½ to 3 football fields in size not to mention the hallways and entrance ways and sidewalks, and roughly about 600 companies attended. (Most were hosted in the Katina Hall, or pulled for a join booth else where in the show.)  The new show was about the size of GDC, who show floor was a little bigger than a high school gymnasium, and only 20 or so companies attended.
Also the timing of the show was bad, in a few weeks Lipzig will have its own game show. Also in October a show that was made to replace the spectacle of E3, posted on the original site of E3 would be making its debut. And all three major Council companies have already said they would be in attendance, making this show the better choice to release new information on next year and surprise announcements for what will be happening in the future.

There have been many suggestions on how the ESA could improve the show next year. Some of which are to eliminate the show completely and work with the companies so they can spread out their information over a few months so all titles can be guaranteed coverage. Another would be joining with the organizers of the E for All, to organize a compound show up where both access and spectacle could both be maintained which would make it something like the Tokyo Game show but have a separate place where the game press could easily get there hands on the games while the general public and “gamestop-types” can get there fix and bring something to hype about back home.

So in the next few months are going to be hearing more about what can happen in the future at the various game shows they’ll be posted around the world. What should have happened at E3 will now happen elsewhere make it necessary for the new E3 to be revamped again, if the ESA wants to have a show with any pull in the market. And the question on whether or not the new E for All will be treated like the old E3 will be answered in the next few months.

I know about the coping. But I just made a team that makes Darkrai, which will probally be the Pokemon, useless. (Plus the other annoying teams with explosion...)

And I do it without legendaries for the most part. (I use Gourdon's drought to activate Leaf Guard, which counteracts Darkrai potent sleep attack.)

Well just finished reading the site and since it is sponsored by Nintendo and Nintendo has it on the offical pokemon site there si a good chance that this is the "event" pokemon. I heard they would be using different ways of getting the Pokemon since the ones in the game are too easily obtained. The Darkrai in Japan what distributed witht the new movie.

Yeah there are minor differences in the rule for Table Tennis and Ping-Pong. And if you are not in college yet and intend to be I would get weaned off of Wikipedia because most institution are banning the use of the site for research paper because of flaws in the definitions/histories. (Some as minor as this one some more major.)

Well if I remember correctly from the time that I bought the original PlayStation, Square had a bushido game. It might be something like that. For example 1:1 control of the sword with the remote while the balence board is used to help in parrying attacks. (and the numchuck to move.)

TalkBack / RE:EA and Jostens Announce Madden Ring Tie-In Promotion
« on: July 16, 2007, 07:37:37 PM »
This has got to be one of the dumbest tie ins I have seen so far. Both of my class rings are from Jostens and I can say they are super expensive, so I wonder how many people are going to be will to lay down $500.00 for a ring from them. (My ring was $660.00 back in 1996 and it only had my name inside the band.)

Nintendo Gaming / A Sony 2nd party going 3rd(?)...
« on: July 13, 2007, 06:34:04 PM »
I was looking at the the software release list for the Wii in the next year or so. (From the kit leak...) And I noticed something the developer XSEED Games which I see primarily on PSP/PS2 titles is making a game for the Wii (Victorious Boxers Revolution). I find it strange because I thought I heard that Sony owned a portion of them, and they are the makers of Wild Arms and Legend of Legaia. Which brings me to the question if they are free to make games on a rivial's system who accually owns the rights to some of their properties. (Even though I like to make fun of afore mentioned two series I do/did like playing them.)

Nintendo Gaming / RE: The Pre-E3 expectations thread
« on: July 08, 2007, 06:39:32 PM »
Sorry I'm a little late.

Nintendo

The "new" storage for the Wii will be the SD card they will increase the maximum size that can be used. (Because I know it can read a 4GB just can't write to it which means it has the ability to do so but not the software to do so.) An upgrade will be available "by the end of the year" (2008) which will enable games to run off it and use it as storage memory.

New IPs will be announce by Nintendo which will encite confusion but will bought and played non-the-less.

Monolith will show off an RPG title we won't get for a year or so. But it will look good and have a strange story line.

We will start to see a bigger percentage of shovel ware and me-too titles from 3rd parties with one or two potenial gems.

What ever happens Nintendo fans will complain that ________ wasn't announced or that didn't happen.

Sony

Will claim that the PS3 is beating the competition in some exstenalist way, will downplay problems, admitt to making mistakes while making claims only mircles could fulfill.

Some titles, will be announced that will be proclaimed PS3 exclusive, and announced for the 360 in two months.

A price cut will announced as in the works but no other information will be handed out.

Sony taking another page from the almost disgarded Nintendo handbook will say that the 1st party will carry the day while announcing Jak and Dexter XXXIII, Legend of Lugaia: Didn't we play this same title twice before and Wild Arms LV: Where in the world is the continuity. And more on the Rachet and Clank.

Square will announce their undying love for the PS3 once again will announcing 15 titles for the DS, 360, Wii and PS2.

The PSP will take a biger presence in the show.

New PS2 titles will be announced.

An expensive and convoluded pricing sceme will be announced for the PS network.

Microsoft

Will claim victory in some fasion. Down play its need for Red Ring of Death insurance.

Halo 3 will slip to a November release date fans will riot.

Microsoft will take pot shots at both Nintendo and Sony this year.

TalkBack / RE: WiiWare - The Official Announcement
« on: June 27, 2007, 10:57:54 AM »
I'm thinking it may be a little more hands off then that. There were three major reasons given to me when I talked to Nintendo about this last year.
1) Development Kits were not in big supply.
2) The internal frame work wasn't done.
3) They wanted a viable plan to make money.

As for promotion of the service. I doubt they will do anything much more than say it out and maybe give some of the better highlights everymonth. The developers who are submitting games have to do the foot work. Plus I'm guessing but when you are looking at the the game there will be more details button and I think I remember seeing something about game videoes being added. Then the developers can try to get some media outlet to look at them and recommend them... Sounds like a fun project.

There is only two reasons Nintendo would drop the price either if the 360 drop substancailly or there is a slow down in sales.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Non-Gaming Publications Support the Wii
« on: June 09, 2007, 04:39:10 AM »
From what I can tell it says really nothing that isn't known. That one of the reasons why the PS3 and 360 are lagging in sales is because of their price. The Wii is selling better because it caters to the casual gamer crowd but it also metions the 360's Arcade is also doing well amoung this crowd. The Wii's price is just right. The rest is just normal fluff.

« on: May 23, 2007, 07:52:27 PM »
Oh it can, i guess I never tried.  (So put Strength, Rock Break, Surf and Rock Climb on on and Cut/Waterfall on another because you need those four more then cut/Waterfall.)

Well they may also start shipping D/P with an update on them that elminates the walk anywhere code's effectivness. They did that with a bug in the orginal shipments in Japan there was a bug that allowed you to get them by using the explorer set while challenging the elite 4. Then the only only way to get to them with the newer ones is to use the Event Items. But those are hacked already also.....

I have tried the Wi-Fi battle tower and ouch.... So I'm currently re-breeding my fighting group and giving them supliments this time through. So some quick advice if you want to do the Wi-Fi challenges I would give suppliments and use growth promoting items.

And I don't know if it has been commented on but yes move sets do change if they changed the growth moves. I moved my Feralligator from Emerald and it had frost bite when I started to use it.
