Nintendo Gaming / Pokemon 3d online rpg?
« on: March 08, 2003, 05:30:31 PM »
We know that little game that is coming is either a Pokemon Stadium or an expansion of the Pokemon games. But there hasn't been enough time for them to make a decent game so I think its only a technical exercise turned to a game.

Maybe Dennis can clear this up?

I accually doubt they will be able to make it out this year. With the information that they are working on more than one project currently. But then again the game was set to be released in two months when Nintendo announced that it bought a big interest in SK.

Nintendo Gaming / Level-5? could they come to Cube
« on: March 08, 2003, 02:30:40 PM »
It was just the way you worded it. Some people do believe that all the money was given to Square. Yes they do need some more RPGs, but if not the ones we have are fine.

Nintendo Gaming / Would "GC2" be backwards compatible with the GC?
« on: March 08, 2003, 02:24:17 PM »
The problem with backwards compatiblity in the cartrige based systems was price, because of the second I/O they would have to install. With a disc based system that may not be a problem especially if they use a drive that can read current DVD medium.

You know Nitnendo didn't give Square all the money in the Q-Fund, just some of it. They also used the fund to create Genious Society, there is still plenty of money in the fund. THe only problem is to get the money the developer has to apporch Nintendo and apply for it, Nintendo just doesn't give it out.

It would be a best seller if it was just an RPG. No it hasn't became a reality yet. We may hear something about what Genious Society is doing at E3 or later this year.

They could. They are helping to make some Xbox games. The problem I think is they are a smaller developer.

Nintendo Gaming / Xenosage, any chance for the Cube?
« on: March 08, 2003, 09:58:59 AM »
There is a chance. They just hired a bunch of Gamecube programmers recently.

But Monolith has made 1 other game. Right before they started making Xenosaga.

I think there was another symbol also. But the middle was Mantorok, I think the extra symbol was on top or bottom.

The problem with that is money. Nintendo is a money concious company when it comes to making its consoles.  No doubt they will sink millions of dollars into the GPU alone. But that doesn't buy you that much of a jump. Also the time need for R&D. What we will more than likely see is a hybrid of either a "current" chip (One that just came out about that time.) Or a hybrid of a chip that is soon to come out.

As long as it not a radically different IO system in the drive all they have to do to make it backwards compatitible is have a chipset that emulates the Gamecube on the next console. Even if they go with bigger discs this will not effect anything because almost all the biger disc drives are made to accept smaller medium.

About Mantorok making the Tomb of Eternal Darkness, I'm almost 100% sure of it for two reasons that may be spoilers to the game.

1) The Mantorok Rune is embossed into the lock of the Tomb you see it every time the Tomb opens.

2) Spoiler:::::

In the final ending it goes on to talk about how Mantorok manipulated the Rovias family to destroy the three other Gods. And the way he did that through out the game was using the Tomb.

End Spoiler:::::

It would also seem the God in control of the yellow magick wanted the events to turn out the way they did since it was his magick that started the chain of events that lead to the destruction of the three gods and the weakening of Mantorok. It would be interesting to see whether this God is higher up or lower than the other Gods delt with in the first.

General Gaming / System Failures?
« on: March 06, 2003, 08:58:42 PM »
How can you guys forget the Nuon. Serious there has been hundereds of failed consoles and add ons to consoles. (Depending on how you define a failure. Dreamcast was going very well for Sega they just collapse under the weight of their other failures.) Since you are including handhelds there is also Game.com, Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Neo Geo and the list goes on.

General Gaming / XENOSAGA: World's Largest Game = 8.5 gigabytes
« on: March 06, 2003, 08:47:33 PM »
It depends on how well emplimented they are. The Bouncer is an example of a game that didn't exactly empliment their cutseens well.

As for needing bigger medium. Why? Because a few games may use more than one disc. (DMC2 also used a simular amount but on two DVDs) With third party developers become more time constrained means they will not be able to use too much more than 8 GB of data.

General Gaming / NOT GOOD FOR THE CUBE
« on: March 06, 2003, 08:34:57 PM »
The Xbox board that Sega is making is the Chiraro (Close spelling.) And Microsoft already said it wasn't going to support it with games. So if this is Microsoft itself putting the machines in the arcades it more than likely the Xbox itself. Which won't make any real difference. Most people who play at arcade do so because they like arcade games and they like hanging out somewhere. They usally already have a console at home.

It will be interesting to see how Sony plays out the deal for the cell processor. Because the way it sounds like to get any advantage out of the thing you will have to have multiple MPUs onboard. Which if I remember correctly Rick said that would make it more difficult to program for. (Please clear this up for me Rick.) And if they make the PS3 harder to program for than the next offerings from Microsoft or Nintendo it will be interesting to see how they fair since all three consoles sould be out around the same time so Sony will not have an established user base to lure developers to keep at their system.

Nintendo Gaming / Sound Outputs
« on: March 06, 2003, 08:21:17 PM »
Unfotunatly the Gamecube isn't made to output digital so you get little inprovement in the sound department if you do that. Nintendo will probally end up doing a simular thing they did with the Gamecube. But maybe this time have optical opitional the same way they had component.

Nintendo Gaming / Would "GC2" be backwards compatible with the GC?
« on: March 06, 2003, 08:16:37 PM »
It would be a good start. It would also make sure Gamecube sales don't flatline a few months before the release of their next console. As we can see with the Gameboy series Nintendo does like to make its things backwards compatible if its fesible. So if its fesible to install a Gamecube chip set onto their next console's board so be it. Also going with the disc media also helps alot in this case.

Nintendo Gaming / Is this a glimpse of the future? Blu-Ray Disc ...
« on: March 05, 2003, 04:48:39 PM »
Yes there are several games now on DVD for the Playstation. But on the same note at this point the PSX had several games on multiple disk. The PS2 has DMC2 which is on multiple. (I don't think there is any other ones.) Xenosaga which was orginally suppose to be on multiple DVDs is only on one. Point out how much of problem it is the get enough content to fill more than one DVD in view of time constraints. (It was pointed out that having things at a lower compressions but that is superfically filling the disc since it can be done at compression with out losing quality.)

Nintendo Gaming / Tales of Symphonia
« on: March 05, 2003, 08:25:46 AM »
The newest installment of the BoF series is definatly an aquired taste. But it has a lot of potential. As for the tales series I accually have to say I have never played them. I guess I will have now.  (As for Dragon Quarter, I'm playing it befor Xenosaga, since its the one that I don't quiet know what it will hand me, and I'm enjoying it.)

Sometimes it is for the smaller development houses. But most of the time they just throw it out as is. I don't have any worries for this title. I'm sure Nintendo will not let it be released if its sub par.

Well Denis shows up at these forums every now and then. He hangs out at the Eternal Darkness Board at IGN more frequently. I don't suggest trying to get a hold of his any other way. 1000s of others are trying also so they just hit the delete key on most messages they get. (Or automated email responses.)

It isn't really set who Microsoft is using. The rumor is ATi since they messed with nVidia so bad nVidia might not want to make the next GPU for the Xbox. It is pretty certin the next GPU for Nintendo will be designed by ATi though with the recent announcment and it being multiple projects. The interesting thing is though when IBM announced it partnership with Nintendo to make the MPU it was for multiple projects also but I think utilizing the Gekko processor.. So I might be reading a little into it. They could go with Motorola who is made the chip for the GBA/ GBA SP.
NEC will more than likely be producing the chips again. They did it for the N64, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, and the Gamecube so I think that partnership is in no danger of collapsing anytime soon.
