there is just no reason to not release it on both PS2 and Gamecube.
Sure there is.  In Japan, Symphonia sold as many copies on the PS2 in one week as it sold on the GameCube up until that point.  How long a lead did the GameCube version have--at least six months, right?

On a side note, I write my forum responses in Word for the spellchecker, did you know MS Word spellchecker recognizes and capitalizes Xbox but not Gamecube or Playstation?
Actually, Word Recognizes Playstion, but you have to spell it correctly--it's PlayStation.  However, it doesn't recognize GameCube.

Mario - Any additional info besides the score?  Translated review, perhaps?

When's it being released in Japan?  Any sign of an American release date?

Make that someday today.
I can't--I'm only halfway through Pikmin 2 and Half-life 2.  I haven't even started Resident Evil 4 or Minish Cap.  Maybe tomorrow.

EDIT:  And I still need to go back and get the second ending from Tales of Symphonia.

I have to admit, I've never played any of the Monkey Island games.  Sad, I know.  I truely enjoyed Grim Fandango though, so I should probably check these games out someday.  They can be had for about $10 each, so it's not a bad deal.

If LucasArts can't be bothered to release the new Sam & Max game (which is reportedly 90% complete) I doubt they're interested in porting a game that didn't sell to well in the first place to a Nintendo console.  It could happen.  But I wouldn't hold my breath.

MONKEY ISLAND 3 SWINGING ONTO DS?
Quote

German website N-DS is reporting that a representative from LucasArts recently told a UK journalist from NGC magazine that the developer was experimenting with a version of Monkey Island 3 on DS. If that went well, other titles from LucasArts' back catalogue could be heading to the handheld.
Upon reading the article, it doesn't seem likely.  They called 3 different sources and everyone's response was pretty much "we haven't the foggiest idea what you're talking about".

Am I the only one who prefers the regular silver DS?

I also have a Silver GBA SP and an Indigo GameCube.

I consider it a badge of honor for being among the first to own a Nintendo product.

The only thing I need is a good case.  So far they're either soft, cheap, or as huge as a cinder block.

General Gaming / Ill-feelings towards SNES-era Nintendo?
« on: February 14, 2005, 08:15:53 AM »
Recently, I’ve been reading 1up's Essential 50 Classic Games.  All was good up until I got to the SNES/Genesis section.  Now I’m noticing lots of anti-Nintendo quotes such as this one from the John Madden NFL Football segment.
Quote

As the 16-bit war progressed, Genesis quickly became the system of choice for teenage males. The Genesis was cool, while the Super NES (with its soft chunky greys and violets) was regarded as a "kid_die system." It was an image bolstered largely by Sega's new mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog, whose slick blue moves made Mario seem dumpy and childish by comparison. … Nintendo had a hammerlock on the surreal, candy-like, linear RPG-loving tastes of Japanese gamers, but the sleek black Genesis console and its no-nonsense approach to the art of video gaming appealed to the western teens who had grown up with the NES. It's become a cliche, but Nintendo refused to "grow up" with its gamers….

And then there’s this one from the Sonic The Hedgehog entry.
Quote

[Sonic The Hedgehog] helped Sega claim victory in the 16-bit console war.

First off, when did the Genesis (or Mega Drive) win the 16-bit console war?  I know it was really popular in Europe, but didn’t the SNES beat the pants off it everywhere else?

Second, was the SNES really a “kid_die system”?  I didn’t think that term was used in reference to until the Nintendo 64/PlayStation era.

I remember the whole Mortal Kombat fiasco, but I was under the impression that that was an isolated incident and the general public didn’t think Nintendo was for younger players until much later.

Is 1up a bunch of clownboats who are just trying to rag on Nintendo, or did I completely miss something up until this point?  Are they just trying to say "we're so cool we knew Nintendo was for kids back when they were still on top"?

BTW, I have to use kid_die because if I turn off emoticons, links no longer work.  Great job PGC.

Can someone who's played the game the entire way through let me know how long it takes to beat?  My only concern with this game is its possible length--due to the nature of the game, I fear it can be beaten in a few hours.  Is this the case?  If so, how's the replayability factor?  I know there are unlockable modes, but are they modes you'd really want to play?  Do they bring anything new to the table, or are they more like Star Fox Assult's Survival Mode?

EA Securing NAACP Exclusivity?

First it was the NFL. Then came ESPN. And now, it appears Electronic Arts is very close to securing another license: the NAACP. Sources tell us that the publishing powerhouse will soon announce an exclusivity deal with the NAACP, enabling only EA to make video games using African-Americans (thus shutting another sports door (excluding hockey) in the face of rival 2K Games).

Reps from EA won't confirm or deny the rumor (or whether this will include mulattos), but expect plenty more info in the weeks to come.

But the marketing doesn't do anything if the system itself is hampered by a significant weakness.
With the right marketing, you can make even the most inferior product seem like it was crafted by the almighty hands of God Himself.  ::cough PlayStaion 2 cough::

Whether the Revolution succeeds or fails has largely been decided by Nintendo's actions before the system has even been revealed. If they screwed up already it's too late. Scary, huh?
I disagree.  While the system itself is important, I think the marketing of the system will have a greater influence on potential buyers.  I think everyone on this board will agree that the GameCube is a great console.  Some aren't happy with its current game lineup, controller setup, etc, but most agree that it's a very capable console with some amazing games.  That said, most of us also agree that Nintendo's marketing sucks and it is largely to blame for the console not doing as well as we all would like it to.

The fate of the Revolution doesn't lie in the hardware or even the games (now that's scary).  It lies in how the console is marketed.  (BTW, I graduated with a BA in Marketing, and I would love to help out Nintendo's current situation.  If only I could work at NOA without moving to WA.)

EDIT:  I didn't read the editorial, as I am boycotting IGN.  Was anything mentioned that hasn't been said a thousand times before?

The possibility of Super Castlevania Kart got me really excited for a second.  Then a realised Konami wouldn't release it on the Cube anyway.  So what's the point?

Except for the fact that that MP is NOT generic. Hell, people complained that it wasn't generic
I believe Ian was referring to Hunters, which doesn't control like the console MP's.  However, I don't think it's fair to judge a game based on a ten-minute demo that was more of a technical showcase than anything else.

As far as Metris goes, please see the Penny Acrade comic I assume Ian was referring to.  Count Your Lucky Stars

I prefer the tumbstrap.

While the stylus isn't bad, I hate how you automatically shoot when you touch the screen.  It makes going for a high score really hard because if you need to turn around you can't without shooting and killing your multiplier.  If Nintendo changes it so when you touch the screen and don't remove the stylus you don't shoot the control method might be do-able.

For the record, Nintendo is making Geist, which hopefully should get at least a little attention from FPS fans.  And then there's Killer 7, which at least was exclusive.

I'm going to agree with Paladin on this one.  I haven't played Halo 2 yet, but from what I hear the single player campaign isn't that hot.  So while Halo 2 might sell by the truck load, will Halo 3?  (Yeah, probably.  But work with me here.)  If people who don't play online were disappointed with Halo 2, they'll probably thinnk twice about getting Halo 3, even if it's on Xbox 2.

Psp: I sport over 25 launch titles
Ds: I have like 10 titles over a 3 month period But you need to buy me cuz i have Mario 64 woot woot
Gamesarefun.com was nice enough to put together a list of confirmed US DS and PSP launch titles.  You can find it here.

You'll notice that the DS has 91 confirmed games and the PSP has 71.  And that's not counting Pokemon Diamond/Pearl or Super Princess Peach because they haven't been officially announced for the US.  PSP is Th3 D00m3d!!1

Ian you really need to tone down your optimism pal</sarcasm>
I mean seriously, everyday you come in and start talking gloom and doom for nintendo.
I almost have to agree here.  Ian's been a great forumer (is that a word) but he's been really down on on Nintendo lately.  It makes me wonder if he's a Sony/MS fanboy who has been hanging around for years so we would drop our guard and he could blindside us with "Nintendo is going down the drain".  Enjoy the games, forget about the business.

That's just silly, Bill.  From everything I've read, PSP's are near-indestructible.

The single player levels are more of the same (which isn't necessarily bad).  But there are different mini games in each one, making them both worth having.
