As long as we're giving our high scores, mine are as follows:

Score Attack:  374 points
Marathon:  4047 yards
Time Attack:  2:56.7 minutes
Challenge:  2741 yards

By the way, what does the Pic next to the rankings do, if anything?  I've just been putting a picture of what killed me (if I got hit) or just a random picture (if I won).

What was wrong with Pandora Tomorrow?  I played it on PC and truly enjoyed it.  Granted, I didn't pay any attention to the story, and I didn't even try out the multiplayer, but the single-player was lots of fun.  And this is coming from someone who hated the first one (granted, I only played the demo on the GC, and spent much of the time wrestling with the controls and trying to find the damn ladder in the kitchen).

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Pit of 100 trial strategy?
« on: March 29, 2005, 04:51:41 AM »
I haven't beaten the Pit of 100 Trails, so I can't give you much help other than to say be sure to bring lots of HP and FP powerups with you and don't even think of trying to beat it until very late in the game (either right before the final boss, or when you return to the city after beating the final boss.

However, I do know that if you quit at any time in the pit (either from dying or jumping in a pipe that returns you to the surface) you have to restart from the beginning.  Also, if you haven't figured it out yet, there's no saving at any point.  So be sure you have at least two straight hours to play before attempting it, otherwise you're just wasting your time.

At $199, they'll probably move far faster, which is why every analyst worth their salt is predicting a holiday price drop.  There is also the idea that $199 is the "mass-market" price for any electronic gadget
All signs point to Sony is currently losing money on the PSP.  If they drop the price down even further, they'll lose more money.  That's enough of a math lesson for today.

My question is (mainly for Rick), how will Sony make a profit on the PSP if they're losing so much money on the console?  In the home console world, systems are typically sold at a loss, but 1st parties make it back from game sales.  Historically, game to system tie ratios for portables are dramatically lower than for home consoles.  I, as many here, doubt UMD movie sales are going to be a big seller.  So can Sony sell enough games per system to make the entire PSP endeavor profitable?

I don't think so.  They'd need to fit the sensor into a tiny DS cart.  Seems very unlikely.  So unless it came with a GBA cart that had the tilt sensor in it, I'd say no.

I just thought of making a thread of the best/most clever/wittiest title that any video game has had.
This thread isn't about the best game, it's about the best game title.

Slight Wind Waker Spoiler...

I'm playing through Wind Waker again, and I just noticed that the Traveling Merchants are actually Gorons.  I completely missed that the first time though.  I just wanted to see if anyone else noticed this.

I've had the same Sony TV for over six years and it works flawlessly.  The remote wore out a couple years ago, but the television itself is great.  My Sony DVD player is starting to act finicky, but it's also six years old, so I guess it's to be expected.

I hear the game is pretty bad without the bongos.  If you're interested in getting this, the bongos are a must purchase.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:DS Case
« on: March 18, 2005, 08:53:51 AM »
I also bought the Intec Safe Case.  Here's my mini-review.

Pros:
-The case is very sturdy.  I imagine I could stand on it and maybe even bounce up and down for a while and it wouldn't break.
-There is are a few mesh pouches on the inside of the lid that will hold 3 or 4 games.

Cons:
-The hinge seems fairly weak.  It could probably snap off fairly easily.  This wouldn't be a huge problem, except it only opens 90 degrees.  If you're not careful, you could open it too much and it would snap right off.
-There's no place meant to keep the strap/thumb nub.
-The spot for the DS is slightly too large, and the DS will tend to wiggle around a bit.

Luckily, the last two cons cancel each other out, as you can fold the strap in half and use it to wedge the DS against one of the sides.

Over all, I'd give the case a solid B.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Next Gen gaming gets more expensive?
« on: March 18, 2005, 08:38:44 AM »
Perm - Since the Revolution has confirmed backwards compatability, won't dropping the price of the Cube potentially hurt Revolution sales?

Most launch lineups sucks.  For those who don't already own a Cube, one of the main selling points for the Revolution will be backwards compatability.  It will give them the chance to play RE4, Zelda, Metroid Prime and all the other great Cube games they missed.  If they can buy a GameCube for super cheap, they might just do that instead and then skip over the Revolution.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Let's Talk Controller
« on: March 18, 2005, 08:33:47 AM »
I have no idea if this is feasible, so someone stop me if they know it's not.

Would it be possible to have a controller that has removable/changeable face plates?  I know it wouldn't be possible on the types of controllers we have the current generation, but bear with me for a second.

Here’s my idea.  The controller has a removable face (by face, I mean the side that faces you with all the buttons/controls), and underneath the face is a small touch screen.  The controller face would literally fit right over the touch screen, and the nodes (for lack of a better term) on the bottom of each button would hover right above the touch screen until pressed.  The touch screen would be programmed (most likely through a game's option menu) to recognize pressure in certain spots as a button press and operate accordingly.

(To better describe what I’m picturing, the face plate could technically be removed and a game could be played just by pressing the appropriate spots on the touch pad that would normally be pressed by the button.  However, the touch screen would just recognize touch—there would be no video playback on it.)

If this possible, Nintendo could include a few different place plates (each with different button placement) with each controller.  Each face plate would have the same buttons, but with different placements and/or button sizes.

It would also be possible to have a variable amount of buttons.  A simple beat ‘em up could have two large face buttons, while a more complex game could have six or eight (or more) smaller buttons at its disposal.

The gamer could change the face plates easily, so each game could have a controller design that was best suited for it.  For example, if there were four face buttons and two shoulder buttons on the "regular version" of the controller, there could be a special face plate that would put the two shoulder buttons on the main face, letting there be six face buttons.  This might be good for fighting games that use the quick/medium/fierce punch/kick scheme.  On games with a context sensitive button that is used quite frequently (like Zelda and RE4) the main button would be much larger than the others.

Developers could (of course) design games to work best with a certain face plate, but the gamer would be free to use whichever one he liked best.

In addition to this, the face plate could be removed completely, and the gamer would have a small touch pad that he could use for games programmed to take advantage of it.  I’m not sure if it would be possible to have the analog stick as part of the touch pad interface, or if it would be separate and the touch pad just on the right side of the controller (where the buttons normally are).

Is this technically possible?  Would it be possible to make a controller like this that didn’t cost an arm and a leg?  Would this be a “revolutionary” controller design, or would it confuse the consumer?

Hey Bill, has Nintendo in any way, shape or form referred to the new Zelda game as Zelda XII?  Just curious.  I saw someone else referring to the game as Zelda X (he counted the Oracle games as a single game, and Four Swords didn't get a number because it was a spin-off, a'la Code Veronica).

Nintendo Gaming / RE: V-pocket PDA?
« on: March 17, 2005, 11:19:00 AM »
I just re-read it.  Then I re-read it a third time just to be sure.  It just seems like he was comparing a PDA to a DS w/ PDA software.  And the way the sentence was written, it was implying that the DS has a 15-hour battery life and two screens.

I know it has two screens (duh) but I'm not so sure about the 15-hour battery life.

Meh?  Where do you get 15 hours from?

Is that the figure if you turn off the back-light?  If so, I don't think that's a very fair comparison.  The DS is practically un-usable without the back-light.

I haven't really been following this game, because it doesn't appeal to me all that much.

Quick question, has there been any sort of word on if this game makes use of the DS' internal clock?  Meaning if I bought this game, would I have to play during my lunch hour for fear of coming home at night and having a bunch of yellow-stains on my virtual carpet?  Just curious.

The internal clock really turned me off of Animal Crossing, and I think it would do the same for this game.  If you can't go on vacation for a week without worrying about coming home to a dead virtual dog, the game needs to be re-thought.

Screw blue coins and all that crap.
Toally agree.  I'm sad to admit I never finished SMS for that exact reason.  I was missing 5 or 10 shines, and they were all from blue coins.  And since the game didn't let you know where you were missing blue coins (at least not that I could figure out) you would literally have to comb over every area for hours looking for a blue coin that you may or may not have missed.

KDR - at first I thought you were joking; then I remembered you're from Europe, not the USA.  The Brady Bunch was a television sitcom in the early 70s that ran for approximately five seasons.

From IMDB's plot summary:
Quote

"The Brady Bunch" is a classic situation comedy that has become a cornerstone of popular culture. Mike Brady, a widowed architect with three boys (ranging in age from 7 to 13) marries Carol Martin, a single young mother with three young girls (ages 6 through 12). The couple and their formerly-separate families become one close-knit, united family. The family shared a four-bedroom house. Other members of the Brady family was Mike's housekeeper, Alice Nelson, who now served as the family's housekeeper; and Tiger, the boys' beloved pooch.  Stories revolved around family unity and sibling rivalry, dating, misunderstandings, family vacations (including those to Grand Canyon and Hawaii) and growing up.

EDIT:  They also made two movie spin-offs in the mid-90s.  I actually saw the first one.  It was bad.
