TalkBack / Re: New Transformers Game Receives Different Name on Wii
« on: April 06, 2010, 05:11:52 PM »
You do realize that there are several Wii games with the word WAR in the title, including Nintendo's own Battalion Wars II, right?  There's also been a couple Call of Duty games (World at War, Modern Warfare) which have sold quite well--and they're published by Activision, nonetheless!

While the new name is bad, I doubt the name change is directly related to the Wii as a platform.

My hope is that the game is dramatically different on the Wii than it is on the other platforms and thus it was decided to give the game a different subtitle to let consumers know of this fact.

Recently, Ubisoft announced that PoP:  Forgotten Sands is a completely unique game on the Wii and yet it still has the same name as the PS3/360 title.  Personally, that doesn't make much sense to me.  The Wii isn't getting a scaled back version of the "proper game"--it's getting its own game that plays on its strengths.  It's impossible for customers to know this without doing some research.

If that's what Activision is doing here, then I applaud them for distinguishing the game from its counterparts.  Then again, if the Wii version is just a scaled back version of its big-brother counterparts then the Wii is just for little girls and babies and Activision can **** off.

The Wii is not at all regarded as a serious videogame platform.  It is a dumping ground for kids titles and casual focused shovelware.  If you're making a REAL game you don't make it for the Wii (unless you're Nintendo who HAS to).  The Wii is a toy and a joke.

Oh, for the love of Pete.  This is trolling and you know it.  Consider this a warning.

Yo, Crimm!  What's up with the round tables?  Were they scrapped because they interfered with your playing of RPGs no one else cares about?

Maybe if you're Ralph S. Mouse.

I think it's also interesting to note that the standard size of these new screens is 3.4"--i.e. bigger than the screens of the DSi (3.25") but significantly smaller than those of the DSi XL (4.2").  This is consistent with the reports that the 3DS will have screens smaller than those of the DSi XL.

The DSi and DSi XL use different batteries.

You can buy replacement batteries for your systems from store.nintendo.com.

I just added Arrested Development and the first episode of season 1 is DVD only, what the hell??

It's just the extended pilot that's disc-only.  Honestly, you're not missing much.  There's a few extra minutes of footage.  However, the pacing of the extended pilot isn't nearly as good as the final version.

I figured his 360 was busted again and since he doesn't play Wii games he had nothing to do last night.

Podcast Discussion / Re: RetroActive #12 Poll -- Game Boy Edition
« on: April 04, 2010, 11:09:24 AM »
I'll be honest--I don't plan to participate in this RetroActive.  My SP is at my parents' house so I don't have a means of easily playing a GB/GBC game.  That said, I think MGS would probably yield the most interesting discussion so I'm going to vote for that.

Metroid II has been discussed previously on RFN.
I don't have much interest in Pokemon or Pinball so I don't know how much can actually be said about a game that combines both.
Bionic Commando is pretty much the same game as the NES game and the recent remake.
I wouldn't mind Wario Land 3, as I love the game, but since both Jonny and Greg have spoken at length about Shake It, there will be a lot of ground that's already been covered.

Ghost Babel is an interesting title if for no other reason that the developers somehow managed to squeeze a Metal Gear Solid game into a tiny GBC cartridge--quite successfully, from what I understand.  There aren't a lot of games like this on GBC (or even GBA, for that matter) so I think it deserves a second look.

If we still had the points system, I'd have earned a new car by now.

You're the reason Pale won't reinstate the system.

While I enjoyed the panel, it seems to have been dominated primarily by Jonny, Karl and Sklens.  If the opportunity presents itself in a future episode, I'd like to hear more from Lindy, Mr. Jones and--of course--Greg, regarding the subject.

If we still had the point system I'd give you a negative one right now.

I like how Maxi goes crying to the director of Nintendo World Report dot com when he feels like someone's picking on him.

What's the word on game media?  UMD?  Download-only?  Something else?

Lots of FOX's TV shows are up for streaming.

Sweet.  Thanks for the heads up!

Clash of the Titans (1981)

Not as good as I remembered / 10

Man, this movie takes a long time to get going.  The first hour is dull, dull, DULL.  Second half picks up, but man, is this thing ever cheesy.

The boss rush as what I assume to be the end of the game can piss off.

Anyone have any tips on how to get through it?

I can beat Misery without too many problems, but she uses up the majority of my missiles if I want to beat her without losing too much health.  Then I use a combination of the machine gun and King's sword on the doctor's first form.  By the time the third one rolls around I'm drained of both energy and weapons and he murders me pretty quickly.

Why not just use Bush/Cheney?

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Metroid Other M
« on: March 31, 2010, 02:10:05 PM »
Sounds like some people need to invest in a Classic Controller.

Except the Classic Controller isn't compatible with NSMB Wii or Metroid Other M, so that doesn't help much for those games.

Personally, I have no problems with the small D-Pad on the Wii Remote--in fact, I tend to use it even on games that support the Classic Controller (e.g. Cave Story, TG-16 games, etc.).  But I can see how some people would want a better option and I sympathize.

Now I'm going to have to read another 10 posts of TJ Spyke arguing with everyone about the legitimacy of VG Chartz.

Why do you hate me so?
