I beat the game this morning with what I assume is the normal ending (Curly's dead).  Thanks for the help everyone!  The final boss became a lot easier once I realized I could use the constantly spawning enemies to harvest health and missiles.

So ... what do I need to do to get the good ending?  How do I save Curly?  There are a few other things that I know I can do on my next play through--namely, keep the Polar star until I can trade it at the end of the game, skip the Booster 0.8 and hold out for the Booster 2.0, rescue Mr. Little and figure out what's in that locked chest in the Outer Wall.  Anything else?

I think I'm screwed.  Is it possible to get back to to the farm after you've saved in the upper portion (after rocketing past the instant death traps)?  As far as I can tell, it's not, which means I can't go back to get the more powerful weapon.  :(

I beat the doctor's second form but I have so little health I can barely scratch the final (?) boss.

Out of curiosity, how much HP should I have at this point?  Mine's 45.

I'd argue against Castlevania Rebirth--while I really enjoyed the game, it's obvious that it's meant for fans of the series.  If you don't generally like Castlevania then you won't like this game.  And if you're only a casual fan there are better Castlevania games available for download--namely Castlevania III, Castlevania IV and Rondo of Blood.

Do you think the DS made GBA games appear archaic?

Which option do I select to have Stogi discover his ex-GF is actually a man with his penis tucked between his legs?  How did he miss that before?!

Podcast Discussion / Re: RetroActive #12 Poll -- Game Boy Edition
« on: April 09, 2010, 01:43:34 PM »
Where and by whom has it been discussed to death? I feel confident in saying that Metroid II is the least played game in that series, and moreover, it might actually be even more a departure than Fusion.

Metroid has been discussed to death.  And while Metroid II isn't exactly the same as the other games in the series, it's close enough that I feel like I've had my fill.

vudu always complains about RetroActive. I think the only time he was truly happy is when we played Ninja Spirit (a game he championed all the way). And I actually like Ninja Spirit, but it was pretty shallow for RetroActive.

What can I say--I like to complain.  ;D

Maybe my problem is I don't view the purpose of RetroActive the same way others do.  I don't look at it as an excuse to replay my favorite games.  I like to think of it as a way to discover and discuss games I'm not familiar with.  Besides Ninja Spirit, I also really enjoyed the RetroActives on Super Ghouls 'N' Ghosts and Shining Force II (two games I've never played before) as well as Luigi's Mansion and Secret of Mana (both of which I had only played once before a long time ago).

I love Mario, Zelda and Metroid but I've played all these games before and I've read/listened to/discussed pretty much everything there is about them--I just don't feel like anyone here going to be able to say much about these game that hasn't been said before.  (Except for the part about the Goombas in Super Mario World--I'm still floored that I managed to go 18 years without learning that the walking crab-apples were actually Goombas.)

Again, sorry if I seem like a prick--it's honestly not my intent.  I love the idea of the feature but I've been a little let down by the selections we've made.  I think we'd get more interesting selections if you stopped polling us and just chose the games between the 4 of you.   Or maybe switched off every other time.

Metroid's been discussed to death.  In fact, I'm surprised it's even included in this poll since Jonny made it clear that he wanted to steer the direction of the polls towards games most people haven't played before.

I've changed my vote to Wario Land 3, considering it's the only game I'd like to hear about that has any chance of winning this poll.

Wow, I completely forgot about The Littles!  I found their house but didn't know what to do so I skipped over it.  Guess I can go back the help them--that should help.

Also, I just remembered about the hidden room about halfway up the Outer Wall.  There's a locked chest in there and I couldn't figure out how to open it.  Any help?  ;D

It will be a software update for older hardware as well as for new hardware, but certain features, most notably multitasking, require at least a 3GS. The software update will be available for iPod Touch users, though it may require a small fee (previous versions have been $10 for the upgrade).

My dad has a second generation 16 GB iPod Touch.  He wants to upgrade to a 64 GB one.  Any significant reason why he should wait for the new model or should he just upgrade now?

I have a couple quick questions about iPhone 4.0.

1)  Is it new hardware or it is just a software update?
2)  Is it only for the iPhone or will there be an iPod Touch version as well?

Personally I think World of Goo is over-rated, and I know I am not alone.

**** you, **** you, **** you.  World of Goo is my game of the year for 2008.  Not WiiWare GOTY.  Not Wii GOTY.  Overall GOTY.

I'm enjoying the DSiWare feature, but to be honest it's not much of a "best of" list.  In the first 4 days you've listed a total of 28 games.  There's only about 100 DSiWare games total and at least 50 of them don't really count because they're either My Note Book titles, Express games or just pure crap.  That means that roughly 60% of the games have made your "best of" list and there's still one day left in the countdown!

Personally, I'd much rather you narrowed the list down to 10 or so games that truly shine.  Since WiiWare has been around for a bit longer you might need to expand that list to 20 games or maybe do something like a top 5 in each category (platformer, puzzle, etc.).  I'd also like to see a couple different takes on each game (assuming more than one of you has played it).  Maybe have two or three people rate each game from 1 to 5 stars--it'd be nice to know if the game is universally loved or if's just Neal with his hard-on for ArtStyle games.  :)

They did attempt to push the beds together, but their combined upper body strength wasn't enough to move the beds because the frames didn't have wheels on them.

Vudu, why do you find it so hard to believe?

I didn't say it was hard to believe; I said it was a waste of time.  The stories didn't seem to go anywhere and they weren't related to the over-arching storyline of the series.  They seemed to be more "what if" and not-so-much "hey, here's why".  This new episode seems to be the start of linking the two story lines and for that I am excited.

Also, Daniel Faraday is my new favorite character.

Are you saying you want to set off a nuclear bomb?
No, I don't want to set off a nuclear bomb.  I think I already did.

Up until now, the entire season's "alternate flashes" have been a complete waste of my time.  This episode changed that--things finally seem to be coming together and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I have hope once again that the series is going to have a satisfactory end.
