Who will be banned first?

Will it be Perm for indirectly linking to adult images?
Will it be 18 Days for using images to bypass the filter (again)?
Or will it be Infernal Monkey and/or SegaGamer for spitting out mad insults like a couple of angry MCs on opposing record labels?

NWR Forums Discord / Snow Day
« on: December 01, 2006, 01:25:53 AM »
There will be up to a foot of snow outside my door within the next few hours.  I've given myself the day off.

I have nothing to do for the next fifteen hours except play Zelda.  Yea!

I might have seen this coming if the Forecast Channel was working.

NWR Feedback / NWR Wii code list
« on: November 21, 2006, 01:12:14 AM »
The NWR Wii code list thread is currently 40+ codes strong after only 56 hours on the market.  At this rate it will reach 100 by Thanksgiving.  This presents a problem, as the code list on you Wii currently only holds 100 codes.

The problem's made worse when there's a news item on the main page asking people to join our forums just to post their Wii code.

There are already several codes in the list from posters who haven't posted a single message in the forums except for their Wii code.  (What's the point of that, anyway?  If you never post on the board and you don't know me, why do you want to be my friend and why do I want you for my friend?)  If this keeps up there won't be any room on anyone's list for the Bills and KnowsNothings of the forums.  (And the wanderings, too, I suppose; but no one really cares about them, anyway.)

I'm not suggesting that new people shouldn't join the forums; I think we have a great community here and I hope it continues to grow minus the clownboats, anyway.  However, I think we do need to come up with some sort of plan to ensure those people who aren't one of the first 100 posts in the thread still make it onto everyone's Wii.

Anyone have any ideas?  I have a couple, but I don't really like either.

The first is we could try to split the board up into teams or *shutter* clans based on any number of things:  favorite game genres, physical location, length of time at NWR and/or number of posts, etc.  Thing is, I don't really like this because (a) some people are sure get their feelings hurt, (b) it's not really a fix to the problem, and (c) it's kind of elitist (if you go by length of time with NWR).

The second idea I thought of (and I'm not even sure if it would work) it to create a giant daisy chain.  A portion of your friends code list would be dedicated to adding certain people to your list in a way where eventually everyone was connected to everyone else through someone else.  For example, if person A adds person B, and person B adds person A and person C, and person C adds person B, then in theory A should be able to play games with person C as long as person B is playing.  However, this doesn't solve a number of problems including (a) A and C can't play each other unless B is playing, (b) A and C can't exchange messages or Miis, and (c) it seems like a long, convoluted process that probably wouldn't work anyway.

So is there anything we can do besides beg Nintendo to increase the number of Wii codes you can have?

Nintendo Gaming / My Wii stopped recognizing my remote
« on: November 20, 2006, 07:46:43 AM »
This morning I tried logging into the Shop Channel.  It was unable to connect for whatever reason.  No biggie, I just try again.  I successfully login, but then my console stops recognizing my remote.  There's no pointer on the screen.  The "one" light on my remote isn't lit; when I push a button all four of the lights blink a few times, but nothing happens.  I try using SYNC but that doesn't work.  I try taking out the batteries on the remote but that doesn't work.  Eventually I push the reset button on my Wii and the remote starts working again.

Any idea what happened?  Has this happened to anyone else?

Nintendo Gaming / Wii Play & Remote bundle coming to America!
« on: November 19, 2006, 07:06:20 AM »
I just picked up my Wii from GameStop and the manager told me that the Wii Play and Remote bundle is coming to America on January 16 (or thereabouts; I don't remember the exact date) for $49.99.  This is the first I've heard of the bundle leaving Japan.

BTW, I tried to submit this new to NWR but received an error message

Since none of the mods preordered the Wii they're all standing in front of various Wal-Marts and Targets throughout the country.

We've been left completely on our own.

We can post all the Tubgirl we want and we won't be banned for at least a couple hours.

Well, I hope you're all satisfied.  You bankrupted a bunch of naive movie folks -- folks from a Hollywood where values are ... different.  They weren't thinking about the money.  They just wanted to tell a story, a story about a radioactive man, and you slick small-towners took 'em for all they were worth.

No, you say?  Ha!  That's one of the telltale signs!

Here's a list of common symptoms to watch out for:

1. Lying about how much time is spent online.
2. General decrease of physical activity and social life.
3. Neglecting obligations at home, work, or school to spend time online.
4. Spending too much money on computer equipment or Internet activities.
5. Feeling a constant desire to be online when they're away from the computer.
6. Going online to escape real world problems.
7. Disregarding the emotional or physical consequences of being in front of a computer all day.
8. Denial of the problem.

Intec's Vertical Stand provides a solid base for a snug, protective fit for your Wii console.

Custom designed for the Nintendo Wii, Intec's Vertical Stand provides a solid base for a snug, protective fit for your Wii console. Features custom side cradles to hold two nunchuk controllers and 2 remote controllers. Enhance the look of your Wii console, while keeping your gaming weapons protected and organized.
What I found really interesting was the picture of what appears to be an Intec Nunchuk resting in the attached cradle.  Unless I'm mistaken, this is the first image of a third party Wii controller.

PS3 - Ridge Racer 7 (Namco Bandai Games) - 9/9/9/9 (36/40)
PS3 - Resistance: Fall of Man (Insomniac) - 9/8/8/8 (33/40)
PS3 - Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire (Namco Bandai Games) - 8/8/8/8 (32/40)
PS3 - Genji: Days of the Blade (Sony) - 7/7/7/8 (29/40)
PS3 - Sega Golfclub Featuring Miyazato Family (Sega - 7/7/7/7 (28/40)
Overall, pretty good scores, considering.

Ridge Racer scored really well, but that's not too surprising.  Honestly, I've never figured out why so many people like the series.

I'm surprised Resistance scored so high considering Japan's typical distaste for the FPS genre.

Sad to see the giant crab couldn't save Genji from utter mediocrity.

Yesterday's IMDb.com poll asked which October release you're most looking forward to seeing?

Here are the results:

Please note that Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker (featuring a kid with a DS) beat DOA: Dead or Alive (a movie rendition of an Xbox game featuring girls with big jugs) by a 13% margin.

On a completely unrelated note, Stan, please note that the #1 most anticipated movie coming out is The Departed, a Scorsese flick.

When all of these elements come together, we get a name and a logo that powerfully symbolize the multi-dimensional fun seriousness embodied in both the Wii and the staff of this website.

Well, to be fair, he did hold concerts and stuff...

Nintendo Gaming / Rhythm Tengoku (GBA)
« on: July 21, 2006, 09:47:40 AM »
Has anyone heard of the game Rhythm Tengoku?  I just found out about it myself, but it looks really sweet.

It's a rhythm game developed by the same team that made WarioWare.

Developed by the Made in Wario team, the game is a combination of over 40 rhythm-based mini-games that last 2~3 minutes each. Much like the Made in Wario game series, Rhythm Tengoku is played by a simple push of the button, will feature end level mini-bosses and it’ll be possible to acquire medals after clearing stages, which will get you some nifty rhythm toys. The game is said to be very strict about timing, and you’ll be told how much rhythm sense you have at the end of a song.
Check out the awesome gameplay video!

It will be released in Japan on August 3.  Think there's a chance it'll come out in the states?

Nintendo Gaming / Wii - One Syllable Word
« on: June 22, 2006, 11:29:30 AM »
I didn't really see a good place to put this, so I had to start a new thread.

There's an article over at Yahoo News called Most common nouns in English.  It has absolutely nothing to do with Wii.

However, there was one thing that I found pretty interesting.

"The thing that struck me when I put together this list was that 90 percent of the top 100 words were one syllable," Stevenson said.
I know a lot of people were complaining that the name was too short when the final console name was first announced (myself included).  Having a name with just one syllable felt odd.  However, it seems like that's not the case afterall.

Perhaps Nintendo was right all along.

What the heck happened back in November of 2004?  Is this an accurate figure or was there a problem with the server that caused an inflated number?  Think there's any chance of beating the record this E3?

Nintendo Gaming / Wario Ware Wii

Time magazine confirms Wario Ware Wii!

It consists of dozens of manic five-second mini games in a row. They’re geared to the Japanese gaming sensibility, which has a zany, cartoonish, game-show bent. In one hot minute, I use the controller to swat a fly, do squat-thrusts as a weight lifter, turn a key in a lock, catch a fish, drive a car, sauté some vegetables, balance a broom on my outstretched hand, color in a circle and fence with a foil. And yes, dance the hula.

It’s a remarkable experience. Instead of passively playing the games, with the new controller you physically perform them. You act them out. It’s almost like theater: the fourth wall between game and player dissolves. The sense of immersion–the illusion that you, personally, are projected into the game world–is powerful. And there’s an instant party atmosphere in the room. One advantage of the new controller is that it not only is fun, it looks fun. When you play with an old-style controller, you look like a loser, a blank-eyed joystick fondler. But when you’re jumping around and shaking your hulamaker, everybody’s having a good time.
