TalkBack / Re: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Review
« on: November 17, 2011, 12:25:28 AM »

So I've decided to buy Skyward Sword and I realized I don't have a Motion Plus.

1) Does the normal copy of Skyward Sword come with a Motion Plus?
2) Does the Skyward Sword bundle come with a Motion Plus, or just the Gold Controller?

I'm guessing the normal one doesn't because it's listed at $49... and the bundle seems a little too reasonable with a controller + motion plus... so I have to buy the game and a motion plus separately to play the game?

Thanks.

$70 sounds much more reasonable. =P

I didn't even know there was a limited edition coming out... for some reason.

(I should know better.)

*looks it up on Amazon*

...

$150!?

I love Zelda, but no thanks.

Is the Newscast going to be retired in favor of this with a new focus or is this just an additional podcast.

(Sorry, if this is answered in the podcast.  I haven't listened yet.  I will later.  Can't right now.)

If I ever played Breath of Fire II, would I need to play the original Breath of Fire first?

Should I just read the wiki for it or something?

The funny thing is that this is basically what I've been dreaming about every since the Gamecube & GBA connectivity was announced.  "What if the GBA was the controller?"

 Hm...

 The possibilities.

Hello all,

I just got interviewed on an Ultima Online podcast and for some reason there were all kinds of non-UO related questions.  (He said he got PM's for more of these questions in his interviews, so go figure.)

Anyway, I ended up name dropping Nintendo World Report, Radio Free Nintendo, Crosstawk, and Box Office Poison.

 http://uothief.com/misadventures/interview8.html

The interview starts at around the 8 minute mark, but I think it'll be mildly entertaining at best for people who haven't played Ultima Online.  Hopefully I didn't embarrass myself too much.

Much <3

edit: Hm... for some reason the embed is gone.  I checked his main website and that episode was removed.  I still have the back-up MP3 link at the bottom available.  I hope he gets it fixed on his site soon.

So, I've been lurking this thread for the past week and looks like not very many people enjoyed the Game Genie as much as I did (or its just drowned out by all the anti-Nintendo talk).

SFII + Game Genie Air Moves was amazing.

"What system?  What game?  What code?"

Anyone else?

I expected a different kind of blog from Chad Sexington.

Are you referring to my sexcapades?  Apologies, but I believe that topic is off limits on this forum.

("Chad Sexington" is my porno name after all.)

General Chat / The "Share Your Blog" Thread
« on: April 09, 2011, 07:13:51 AM »
Hello,

Long time NWR fan, inactive forum member, and occasional podcast email submitter here;

I was going to make this a personal "advertisement post" for my blog, but thought it would be more interesting to open it up to everyone else and their blogs.  The way it works is simple:  If you have an active Blogger, WordPress, or other blog, share it here in this thread.

The "Share Your Blog" List

Blog Title: Blog of the Seeker
Short Description: I'm a self-described casual fan of all fantasy & sci-fi and I've decided to see why The Sword of Truth book series seems to get so much hate by the people who hate it and love from the people who love it.  After deciding to read it for the first time, I decided to review and summarize each chapter as I went along, chapter-by-chapter.  I just completed the first book in the series and I'll be moving onto the second book as well as branching off into other fantasy book series from here on out.  In my chapter reviews, I usually end up making fun of the author and/or characters, but most of that is due to me entertaining myself as I write and usually has less to do with inadequacies on the part of the author and/or characters.
Name: Chad Sexington

Blog Title: NinTemple
Short Description: This isn't my blog but I do write on it.  Basically the whole idea of the site is to encourage gamers to go there and just talk about games without trolling and flaming others. We also have game nights and tourneys.  Pretty nice place.
Name: Maxi
Link: www.nintemple.com

Blog Title: Gaming Oblivion
Short Description: This is basically a blog/website for video games reviews and news. It's on a semi-hiatus for now; I need to finish my 3DS review. I have my best friend "helping" me out with the site. Meaning he did one review. I handle everything on the site, from news, to layout, to reviews. It also has a forum that isn't active at all. Pretty sure I have one reader that isn't my girlfriend. If you'd like to be a contributor, let me know by PM on NWR, email, or PM on my forums.
Name: Oblivion (Evan Catlin)
Link: http://www.gamingoblivion.wordpress.com/

***I know there are many other people who have interests other than (and including?) video games.  And of those people, there must be other people who enjoy writing and have done so in blog form.  So if you have a blog, feel free to share, and try to stay true to the format of "Blog Title," "Short Description," and "Link."  The only types of blogs I think should be off-limits are just random thoughts about... breakfast that morning, who pissed you off that day, why your favorite sports team won last night, etc.  (Basically blogs that are just Facebook and Twitter pages in blog form.)  On the other hand, a dedicated sports blog would be fine, for example.

If you add your blog to this thread, I'll try and add your information to this OP, so discussion about the blogs won't get in the way.

So there you go.

Well, overall is was great.

It was just weird hearing music over the voices.

Maybe next year alternate with a question, then immediately blast a song for 30 seconds and ask the audience to wave their arms around and shout out the answer if they know it, then take the next question, and so on.  Just kind of lightning round through the whole process.

(Preferably giving away t-shirts with a t-shirt bazooka.)

(Just saying.)

Sorry, I'm posting while I'm listening.  The music is for the prizes and it sounds like you were crunched for time and did it because you wanted to include both Q&A and "name that game" contest.

Hm...

Listening to it right now and you probably already know this but... I think it was a mistake to play the bgm during the Q&A.

Straining a little to hear the voices while it's playing.

I don't think game 4 was as bad as Kid Icarus. =P

I think everyone is a little more familiar with Strider as they think they are.  The main character (Strider Hiryu) was in both Marvel vs. Capcom 1 & 2.  (I don't think he's in 3.)  Why is it awesome?  Huge swords, cut scenes, space stations, ninjas, pyramids, trains, upgrades, betrayal, and back stabbing, all told in an manga style story.  What's there not to like?  Keep in mind that I played this when I was really little and I had no idea what manga was at the time.

This was also the first time I can remember encountering a "boss fight" with a mind controlled friend where you take him down, all for a story point.  I think these types of playable cut scenes continued on to future Capcom titles like the later Mega Man games.  A lot of things introduced in the game were a first for me and were ground breaking, specially for a non-RPG game.

And unlike Kid Icarus, I've actually beat this game multiple times.  To this day I still remember the password for the final stage in the game: DMCC BGCP CPOD.  This and Bionic Commando were probably the most influential non-Nintendo games for me in the early days of the NES.

I don't know if you ever answered the hint question.  Were you talking about "the next story" or "coming next scene!" ?  That might have been a carry over from the manga source material.  But I've never read the manga.

Good article, but it's desperately lacking something very important: Your age or the year you were born.

I guess you can kind of guesstimate it from this line, "When I say growing up, I mean to say that I did not own a console until the months before I entered high school; a GameCube was my first."  But I think a specific age is needed for this kind of article.  Keep in mind that this is coming from a life long Nintendo fan who is 28 years old.  I'm not that old but I'm old enough to feel like I'm in the minority.  And one of the first things I think about when hearing someone talk about nostalgia and Nintendo games is the person's age.

My 2gp.

Let it be known far and wide, henceforth, that on October 21, 2010, I finally successfully named a game on Radio Trivia.  Silver Surfer.  This is a historic day.

Let it also be known that I owned the original game and my record is the completion of 3 stages.  Let it also be known that I originally got this game from Toys-r-us when my mom took me and my brother to the store and let us both pick out one game each.  (This was unheard of.)  I chose this game and I think my brother chose the original TMNT game.  I'm not sure who picked the better game.

Also, the music for game #4 was amazing.

I never knew.

Take my money Nintendo, just take it.  I can't give it to you fast enough.

Zelda II was one of my all time favorite games.  I hope Nintendo makes another game in the same style one day, even if they subtitle it as a Zelda spin-off series.

But are you sure the songs are correct?  The 1st and 3rd songs in particular sound like remixes.

It's been a while, but something sounds a little off.
