Podcast Discussion / Re: Radio Free Nintendo: PAX East Special #3
« on: April 01, 2010, 01:49:09 AM »
This episode should have been named, "Radio Free Nintendo - Peer Pressure Edition."  But I would have done the same thing to James, as you know he would have said some epic lines with the filter turned off.  Maybe even one to top Lindy's "Maaaaaaan...F$*K Mario Galaxy 2!!".  Classic

Awesome!  I'd be curious how Okami fairs on it, thats a game that would really shine in silky smooth HD.

Holy s&?!!  Trying to work while listening to this is impossible. Am I really listening to 3 different conversations at the same time?  I love it.

As for Halo scores, you do realize most people rated the game high mostly for MP right?  If you were just rating the SP I doubt the Halo 2 or 3 game would even get an 8.  Similar to CoD, the MP is the meat of the game and the reason for higher scores.

You state this as if MP is inherently of a lesser value than SP.

Just checked out the Kotaku review.  Why so many menu shots, and jeez, the biggest gaming blog can't afford a capture card?

Looking forward to your impressions.  If this thing works well on games like Galaxy I just may have to partake.

Story and art are important and definitely need the attention, but I hope they also focus on level design, enemy A.I., and overall pacing.

So basically if they redesign everything from the first game they'll be fine. ;)

So if the story, art, level design, enemy A.I. and overall pacing all need work then what the hell does the first game have going for it?

To be frank. The same thing a dead body next to a group of stranded starving passengers has going for it. It's one of just a couple of options.

I had a lot of doubts about the first game but I gave it a shot. It was terrible IMO. I'm not expecting much from the follow up. It seems gamers give HVS a break for just starting out but they've been around forever and have yet to build a great game.

General Gaming / Re: PS3 losing Linux
« on: March 29, 2010, 11:35:43 PM »
Some companies did use the Linux on PS3 to treat it as a supercomputer. I was reading info on this at another site and they mentioned one guy talked about how this feature let him make the equivalent of a $50,000 supercomputer for about $5,000.

Thats true.  I heard of a company that had 100 or so networked up for that very reason.

I'm not sure whats worse, the RROD or the proprietary hard drives.  Either one is a deal breaker for me.

Boston was founded by the Puritans. The fact that so many brewers are even there is a modern miracle.

Also, Banned in Boston.

That makes sense.  Still though, pretty impressive the Puritans still have such influence.  They were able to beer-block the RFN crew.  Just weird.

So weird that Boston has those beer laws. I thought the Northeast was a bit more progressive. Probably just an old law no ones bothered to change.

Damn. For once I wish I lived up North. Have five games you can give up?  If so that gets you a free DSi XL.

Man, this reminds me how much my current Iphone sucks, durability wise.  So I bought the 16gig Edge in March of 08, then it broke about 350 days later, so I got a replacement.  My replacement lasted 11 months, and now part of the touch screen doesn't work, and it just runs really slooooow.  I'm eligible for a new model, but I'm going to try waiting it out until June for the next iteration.

It was pretty crazy, all within one month, my Imac, 5th gen ipod, and Iphone all broke down in some way.  Go Apple!

Good to know there are retailers that got their "casual" definitions straight, long before Nintendo DS even showed up.

Nice find.  That video really picks up at 1:17 with a bit of Gsizzle.

OMG!!  I finally saw what Obi looked like.  So weird.  I pictured him as this really fat white kid in a trench coat.  He looks more like a barista.  Man, the internet is so bizarre some times.  Anyways, its good to see him back, that dude cracked me up, loved his rant on fanboys from an old show.,

Can't wait to see/hear it!!

OMG, after seeing gametrailers 100th episode of "invisible Walls", and seeing how they all look, which was disturbing at the least, I'm surprised that you guys are actually normal looking, and not ugly or geeks, or worse, a combination of the both. Good to see that Nintendo fans are not ugly like the rest of the other fanboys.

Thats funny.  I just finished watching IW 100.  To be fair though, that show featured some Bloodworth clips, and he is still a member of these forums.  So ya, all of us our ugly nerds.  Its cool.

I wouldn't phrase this problem as the "casuals being more picky" so much as "the casuals don't need more than 1-3 games a year, and once they have their Wii Fit/Carnival Games/etc. they just ignore the rest".  "Being picky" indicates that they actually care enough to critically examine and contemplate the various games out there, and then make a choice.
Who needs games?  Maybe the hardcore do, which is why it's apparently so easy to sell to them.  But the casual crowd doesn't need games.  That doesn't mean they won't buy more than 3 games a year, though.  If they see something that they want, they'll buy it.  It's not like if I learn about a new movie I really want to see, I'm going to think "well I've already been to the theatre once this month..."  The point is you have to sell your game to them.  Maybe they don't critically examine every game that gets released, but why should they, they don't need to.  But don't accuse them of ignoring the rest, they'll respond positively if they hear/see positive things about a certain game.  That's how word of mouth operates, and is why we actually see a ton of million sellers.

Yeah thats true.  Its seems like they ignore them, when perhaps they have no idea of their existence.  However, if they saw as many game ads as movie ads, they'd probably respond and buy more than 1-3 games a year.

The hub in 64 was perfection. The hubs in Sunshine and Galaxy were very interesting but ultimately too spread out, which made jumping from level to level a bit tiresome. I'd prefer a well thought out hub by I guess it's not that big of a deal. It should certainely make collecting all thestars more effecient.
