Nintendo Gaming / RE: Developer/Editor Feedback regarding the NRC
« on: October 28, 2005, 09:50:22 AM »
Imagine Black & White on the rev, the controller would be perfect.  I played it on the pc, and sometimes the mouse controls would just get frustrating, such as when throwing, and moving items.  Imagine using the revmote to draw figures to use your powers.

Thats really great that the creator of that game likes the rev

With my detective hat on, I'd say one of two things are likely: either Nintendo doesn't really have any idea yet, are being purposefully vague, or the second half of 2006 may be in doubt, leaving (obviously) the first half.

...of 2007

read the part in bold

wow, that is really cool.  One thing he mentioned was that his hand shook some, I think nintendo might compensate for this (its already done for video cameras)  I dont know if I like that he said it would take a while to get used to, hopefully that is not true of the rev controller, since ninty is aiming for the "pick up and play" market.

all of the games have restrictions like that, it is in all of the instruction books that if you should take a break every hour of play to prevent repetitive motion syndrome.  Since nobody ever listens to the warnings, their only purpose is to cover nintendo's @ss from getting sued

It looks like I was a little unclear, sorry I can do that sometimes, so allow me to clarify.  It would be a dirty move because I have not seen sony really pushing this eye-toy accessory, and like MrMojo said, "a lot of credit to Nintendo for having the balls to actually base an entire console around the idea."  If sony were to push this as an alternative to the rev controller (even though it wouldnt work as well)  THAT would be a dirty move.

Also, I have to admit that I did fail to look at the date for the sony patent, which contributed to my comment being as off as it was.

not only that, but correct me if Im wrong not only is there a good chance that the japanese gamers would go for the rev, but probably the japanese developers as well.

edit: grammer mistake

I have to agree with Ian on this one d@mn . If I am going to download the old games, I want them in their original form, not some updated version for the revmote.  Part of that is because I am a relatively new gamer ( compared to some of you here), my first system was the SNES, but I didnt really get into video games untill the N64, so I am really looking forward to getting some of the games that I missed out on, the way they were originally meant to be played.

Eh? What about DK 64? That was at least acceptable, I think...

even though DK 64 was rendered in 3D, it was still a 2D game because you could not move on the z axis

edit: never mind, I can be a real spaz sometimes, I was thinking about DKC for some reason, sorry

keep in mind that downloading a game is not the same as playing a game online, you do not need a fast connection.  Think about it like a file sharing program (ie limewire) you can do it with a slow connection, but it takes FOREVER, it would be the same situation.  So even though broadband is needed to play games online, you dont need it to download games, it just really helps speed things up.

General Gaming / RE: ITT: PSP Discussion
« on: October 08, 2005, 05:47:33 PM »
Sony hasnt been responsible even when it is their fault, there were stories back when the PSP first launched that sony wasnt taking back PSPs that had dead pixels.  So they are difinately not gonna take responsability when it really isnt their fault

it wouldnt officially be a copy, but it would still be a rip-off from ninty, and a very dirty move, even though the eye toy ting wouldnt work as well

That idea has several flaws that make it inferior to the rev controller:
1.  I dont know about this technology they were talking about for depth, so I have no idea how well that would work

2.  If it uses leds to tell the difference between players, then the players would always have to point the led at the camera to prevent it from mixing up the players (can you imagine suddenly switching players with your friend>)

3.  this might not pick up angles too well (if you are pointing it directly at the camera, then you spin it, I dont know how well that would work)

I do have to agree though that if sony does release this, it would be one hell of a copy, and there would be no denying it.  Then there would be fanboys trying to say that nintendo copied it off of sony.

They'll say "Sure, Nintendo may have invented the remote (at which point someone else will pop in and say that Nintendo didn't even invent it, they just popularized it), but Sony is the one who perfected it."

I thought you could use dual remotes for the rev, just get two controllers, wasnt there some guy in the TGS video playing the drums?

General Gaming / RE: Could sony replicate revolution with eyetoy???
« on: September 25, 2005, 02:21:34 PM »
if you cant use the rev controller as a sword, then why would they put that in the trailer?  If I remember correctly, the guy using the rev controller as a sword in the video wasnt always pointing at the tv.

Can you imagine using the eytoy with the contoller, and some extra work to the contoller, but that would be very awkward because you would probably have to hold the contol with both hands.  Think about the trailer for the NRC, especially the sword-fighting part, now try to imagine that same thing, but with the boomerang controller, its actually kinda funny.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Rev store Demos?
« on: September 21, 2005, 11:25:37 AM »
there was rumors (back before the controller was revealed) that some nintendo rep said that the there probably wouldnt be any demos.  I find that hard to beleive, I hope they find a way, and you have to consider that there were rumors and "leaks" all around before the NRC was shown, and I dont remember anything mentioning that it would look like a remote for a tv.

EDIT:  as for the long cord idea, I could see people smashing the controller around, but you have to cosider that stuff in store kiosks get ruined all the time, I dont know how many times I have seen DS with the screen scratched to heck by some a**hole.  The point is that if someone goes into the store planning to bust up contollers, they can do it whether it is anchored or not

yeah, lol the faceplate idea is really bad, it brings up a lot of questions too, like what happens if you lose one, what does that do to the portability of the games (with just disks, you can put them in cd cases), and then a developer would have to pack four faceplates with a four player game (making for a TON of faceplates to produce $$$, a lot to carry around, and a bigger box for the games to come in.)

Only problem with that is alot of kids (and some adults) cant whistle, so they would have to also map that funtion to a button anyway.

Funny you picked Donald Duck. I believe i read it was Finland who banned Donald Duck comics because he doesn't wear pants. I don't know if that's still in effect, or if it was even true to begin with.

LOL, my cousin's Fiance is finnish, I dont see them very often, but maybe I will have to try to remember to ask her next time I see her.
