General Chat / RE: A hypothetical question about futuristic racing

Unless there are actually hovercrafts and the technology to keep a person from splattering their brains all over the windscreen when going loops and twists at 2000km/h, then only really Extreme G has the best chance of being an 'actual racing sport'.

Having weapons in these futuristic races would mean more deaths in each race than in every single race of every vehicle in the history of mankind so far times 10000.

I'm actually very surprised that EA never put the animations in for say, when a guy gets shot in the hand, groin, leg, etc like Rare did for GE and extended in PD. That was so cool. Probably the only game to be taking that to the next level will be Resident Evil 4.

The animations for the baddies in Nightfire were excellent, and were quite realistic, but never really realistic in that they didn't react well to gun shots to their arms or anything. You could shoot a guy ONLY in the leg and he would still die. I know that this happened in GE, but for a newer title, say, lets see them make it so that they will only die if it was a head shot or of body shot. You wouldn't die from a leg shot unless you were left there for a long time.

it wasn't just the link issue, it was the fact that it was a link to scans/photos of the GI mag itself, and you could actually read it without having to buy the mag.

What, are you saying that we are kIdDeH cause we don't know the actual price of Xbox Live subscriptions?
People these days come up with anything to make a case against Nintendo fans. Tsk tsk.

It's like saying Xbox fans suck cause you don't know how much a GC controller costs.

Nightfire was OK for a Bond Game.
For the GC version, it was quite short, and as you would have noticed, relied on the movies for level-inspiration.
The underwater car level with the Aston MArtin? The Wet Nellie sequence in The Spy Who Loved Me.
The last level? Moonraker's space battle.
The flying Level? The Little Nellie sequence You Only Live Twice.

The only difference is that they had more futuristic weapons, and more explosive action. I mean, you could stop the threat of nuclear war from your car.

The thing that EA have to know when making Bond games based on the old movies is that they shouldn't make a full level about something that Bond only did for 2 seconds in the movie. Like the Statues level. It was a bit pointless i reckon. Other than 007 revealing he is Janus, of course.

The thing i am looking forward to most in GEremake is going thru a realictically modelled city, in your tank, with people running everywhere and running over cars without them exploding in your face. And crashing thru buildings. In broad daylight. Thats what made the tank chase in the movie fun.

Oohhboy had better remember that I am hosting his avatar for him

Hahaha, imagine how funny it would be if the next movie was a throwback to th GE007 GAME on N64, where anyone holding a gun has their arms stretched out in front of them. Hahahahaha.
And if you wanna aim up or down, you have to move your entire torso at the angle required

General Chat / RE: Is it money or software thats the root to success
« on: February 15, 2004, 12:51:22 PM »
Well I can't comment on everything, since i don't know too much about it, but during the NES days, games wasn't a multi-billion dollar industry.
Back then, games were more of a past time, where now they define a whole culture, and the development of the internet has helped this more.

Money is just as important as making great games, but if your game doesn't sell as well as expected, then it's good to have reserves for the hard times. Like NIntendo has.

Thats all i can say for now. I'll let other people do the talking for me.

This game is gonna be cool.
Another thing that seems to have been revealed is the storyline of the game:

Leon is now a US Government Agent, assigned to protect the President's daughter in South America - hence all the jungles and small villages.

I reckon the village, like the mansion, is a frontal disguise for Umbrella corp's HQ, probably underground or something.

well i DID put in 'etc etc etc'

And NO use of Never Say Never Again.
That movie was so boring.

Kevin McClory and Flemming and some other dudes or something wrote the screenplay for Thunderball, but when no film came of it, Flemming wrote the novel. McClory got pissed, saying he had equal rights to the film - and James Bond. McClory won in court, saying he would remake Thunderball, and maybe even start his own Bond Franchise.
MGM and EON held him off until 1983 when Never Say Never Again was made.
But while Kim Basinger is hot, and the sex scene with Barbara Carrera was equally hot (Halle and Pierce weren't the first ro do it ), the film just sucked ass.

Nintendo should have made this a LONG time ago.
But then it wouldn't have had the proper tools to do so: Online capabilities, Massive Lands to roam, Heaps of wild pokemon.

If they do, don't make it that you HAVE to have a GBA game to play.
Make it so that if you do have pokemon, that you can transfer them into the 3D Pokemon and battle with them with real people online.

I like having real-time battles when it comes to having Pokemon 3D. Imagine seeing the head of a Bayleaf sticking out of the grass! Imagine seeing a whole flock of Pidgey in a tree! What if you tried to capture one of them? They would all come down and try to peck you!
You shouldn't have a life meter; this should be purely anime If you get burned, you simply become char-grilled human, like Ash everytime Charizard does a flamethrower.
Then imagine taking the time off to have a swim, and seeing dozens of Lapras playing near you!

The possibilities for this game are endless, and so I doubt Nintendo would incorporate EVERYTHING into it.

Really though, you can't have James Bond games of any of the movies before License to Kill or The Living daylights.
Everything before that should basically be called 'Sneaking - The Game' ie booooring.
There just wasn't as much action as there was actual spying back in those days.

Probbaly the best EA can do is make a game that encompasses all the action sequences in each movie up until Timothy Dalton's movies:
- Bond and Honey's capture and escape from Dr No's facility
- The Volcano Lair assault in 'You Only Live Twice' (a fave I'm sure)
- The Ski Chase in 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'
- The Duel with Scaramanga in 'The Man with the Golden Gun'
- The whole space station scene in 'Moonraker', including the outer-space laser battle that Nightfire ripped off completely
- The boat chase in 'Live and Let Die'
- Fighting Max Zorin on the Golden Gate Bridge in 'A View to a Kill'
- The very cool car/ski chase in 'The Living Daylights'
- The truck chase in 'Licence To Kill'

etc, etc, etc

Making games for all of them would be dumb, cause they just aren't action packed enough.

EDIT: Free Radical isn't being bought out by EA. TS3 is just being published by them as a deal. They are still very much a 3rd Party developer.

but why buy THAT?
Wait till the 50th Anniversary Edition of Phantom Menace comes out, and Lucasfilm will bring out the hyper-active super-mega director of photography's cut of the all six films, including a NEVER SEEN BEFORE look of Episodes 34 to 12!

DVD Sarcasm aside, I will buy this DVD set.
I got the Special Edition Trilogy Gold BOx Set in 1997 for my birthday, and I still have it. And I will but the DVD. Like how I bought Episode 1 on DVD, and got it on DVD for Christmas.
This triolgy box set will be awesome.

I think EA wanna prove themselves. So far, with like 5 007 games, pretty much unsuccessfully.
But by god are they trying

They're using the voices AND likenesses of real actors (in EoN - Pierce Brosnan, Shannon Elizabeth, Heidi Klum, Willen Dafoe, Mya, John Cleese, that Japanese chick who is Q's assistant, and I believe Dame Judi Dench is in as M too), they making new stories that have to written with approval by MGM and EON (the production company, not the abbreviaion of Everything or Nothing - which i believe btw was named so delberately ), they use the real life cars, and everything else that comes with making an actual James Bond movie, except no one gets hurt.

By not making Free Radical develop the game, they wanna prove that they are good at making Bond games.

The Next Bond Game Goes Back In Time

What I made of this was that they were just remaking Goldeneye, but they aren't really.

"GoldenEye" will be the inspiration for the next title developed by the publisher whose licence to thrill lasts until 2010, but the new game will not be a remake of the 1997 N64 version."

I think it IS going to Goldeneye, just different gameplay version to Rare's.
EA says that the next Bond game WON'T be developed by Free Radical, but in-house.

Gamecube has the most online game so far in this generation.
So you're better off sticking with GC.
Nintendo made a pretty cool deal for online gamers, and it's pretty sweet. Only 50 dollars (Australian, so around 70 bucks in the US) for a subscription, and it's good for 2 years with the current deal.
Just buy the broadband modem, jack into the main nintendo online hub and away you go!

At least this is what i would probably be saying if Nintendo HAD an online plan for the GC.

Remember the question 'What are you top 5 surf brands?'

Well welcome to the answer to that question
SO in effect, WE are the ones that brought the Rip Curl GBA SP to the stores

General Chat / RE: Original Star Wars Trilogy to finally be released on DVD
« on: February 12, 2004, 02:45:11 AM »
I agree with having both version on the same DVD.
X-Men did it with 1.5 - you had the option of seeing it with or without the extra scenes, and the DVD version I have of Independance Day has both the Cinema version and the Special version on it.

It's all one big money-making scheme. They release the DVD of it as some super-special version, but only for a few years.
You know why they stop making it after a few years?
So they can make the Anniversary Editions, the Anniversary Editions of the Anniversary Editions, etc etc.

This isn't gonna be the only time the original triolgy will be on DVD (or any other future medium).

When I heard all the crap that was being dished out about the Prequels, I went into the movies and watched them WITHOUT ANY COMPARISONS to the original trilogy.
And because of that, I enjoyed it.
When I started to draw comparisons, I didn't judge the way Lucas made it to the way he made the original trilogy.
The Prequels are set in an entirely different time period, with a totally different setting.
If you thought the dialogue was too 'formal or mechanical', then geez, think more broadly. You were a Queen or a member of a very strict order and senators that had to hide their corrupt nature behind shady deals with the underworld. You had to act in certain ways; talk certain ways.
Read any of the Star Wars novels about the New Republic, it is practically the same, albeit the traditions of the Old Republic had been in place for thousands of years.

Thats all i can say right now, cause I'm not too good with finding the right words to explain stuff.

What the hell is there to spoil, Akdaman?
Wrestling, while fun to watch the hard-boiled ACTORS in the ring BATTLE it out for WORLD () champion wrestler or some crap, whilst listening to the OVER THE TOP commentary, is pretty much darn boring.

The whole SPORT is fake, a multi-million dollar acting deal for those who couldn't act. I don't know why anyone watches it.

*punches Akdaman whilst stomping very hard on the floor, so that it sounds like a punch, to which Akdaman must fall down hard, breaking his back for real, whist holding his hand in pain like a pro soccer player would*

Great interview, although much of what he said was in the IGNCube interview (no offence ).

Too Human, if it's now shown at E3 this year, will definitely be on N5.
Sure it will be a great way of letting the GC go with a bang, but a high-profile game like this deserves more exposure, like the launch of N5.

Other than my opinion, i have no idea whats coming next

Anyone who lives in Sydney, specifically in/near Bankstown.
The Three Swallows Video Store in Yagoona has the old Star Wars movies on video.
Last time I checked anway.

It's in the sci-fi section, if anyone wants to know
I'll go there soon and see for myself.

Just check your local video store, they're bound to have it hiding somewhere.
