F**********************************K!!!!!

I was just literally sitting next to my phone (home and mobile) waiting for my call to come get SMB2. I had my reciept, I was dressed, and I had bus money.

It didn't come. I got two calls, though. My ears picked up, and I picked it up before the first ring was out. The first was from my mum to see it I was awake (I had been for four hours) and the other was about chemistry tutoring for my sister.

They gotta ring tomorrow though. But I'll be in Bankstown tomorrow when I come back from Uni.

« on: March 17, 2003, 10:51:14 PM »
My spending, in Australian dollars:
-Gamecube: $250
-2nd controller: free
-Mem Card 251: $40
-Rogue Leader: $29
-Nightfire: $69.95
-XG3: $52 (I got it for $69, but sold it in store credit at EB for $17)
-Eternal Darkness: Dad bought it
-Harry Potter: Sister bought it
-Super Monkey Ball 2: $30 (I thought I was gonna have to pay full price, but I got a refund from a text book I didn't have to buy: $50, and I've also got EB Store credit).
-Zelda Wind Waker pre-order deposit: $10

Total: Only $480.95! Which equals around US$961.90.

WOW! That's not a lot at all!

Nintendo Gaming / Sigh no RTX
« on: March 17, 2003, 10:38:56 PM »
This one of the things I hate about 3rd party developers on Gamecube.
They hype up what is potentially a good game, then just tear it down by cancelling the Gamecube version. It's happened before, it's happened now, it's going to happen again. The public view Gamecube as the console with the least variety. Developers don't want to develop for Gamecube because of this reason, and that their game might not do well on the platform. It's a paradox, and this same thing can be said about Nintendo being 'kiddy' (just replace 'least variety' with 'kiddy').
Also, developers potentially making a game exclusive to Cube, just go on and make for the other two. Like Batman: Dark Tomorrow and The Hobbit.

Thing is, I only depend on NIntendo for my games. If there is a 3rd party game that interests me, then I might consider buying it.

Go read some interviews. He is constantly talking about how they are a part of Nintendo. As far as I can see, SK is closer to Nintendo that Retro is...of course we don't have nearly as many Retro interviews...

So anyway, SK sounds as 1st party to me. Heck, Nintendo even owns them. Nintendo doesn't even own HAL Labs, and they are considered first party. Silicon Knights isn't going anywhere either, as Denis also stated. All their projects are and will be for GCN. Just go read some interviews. This site has mp3's from GDC, IGN has a seperate interview up from GDC, and their are many earlier ones..

As far as I can tell, the following can be considered "first party". Don't bring your technicalities and whatnot into this, there is no way they will work. You can't set up rules for what's 1st party and what's not. There are too many little weird things, like HAL labs being in a Nintendo building but still an independent company.
So they are:
EAD, Intelligent Systems, HAL Labs, Silicon Knights, NST, and Retro Studios.
These are the ones that aren't going anywhere anytime soon (or ever). They are "part of the team" if you will.

Now things like Rare...Nintendo only owned a minority stake in the company, and Rare was already a company with it's own vision and leaders before Nintendo stepped in. All of the above companies have been with Nintendo from start to now, except for Silicon Knights. But they seem to be in love with Nintendo and I don't think they will leave. Oh and of course Nintendo owns them. On IGN Denis Dyack said all of their previous games would have been better with Nintendo. It's not like Nintendo just bought them and said, ok we give the dough you make the blockbusters. They all contribute...

So anyway...

Geez, what the heck you on bro?
Silicon Knights is a 2nd party. No technicalities. No rules that I have 'made up'. What's so weird?

Nintendo First Parties:
EAD, Intelligent Systems, Retro, NST (is HAL a 1st party or 2nd party? I'm not sure anymore).
Nintendo Second Parties:
Silicon Knights.

Rare was part of the team, no doubt. If you said at the start of Gamecube's lifespan (as the the Dolphin), that Rare were leaving, you'd have been hanged for blasphemy. If Silicon Knights left Nintendo, there would be a good reason to.

I HAVE read the interviews (and the ones from IGN), I HAVE heard the transcript from GDC (from PGC). Silicon Knights are not going to leave Nintendo any time soon, I know. Nintendo, for all I know, owns a significant proportion of SK. They also did with Rare and Left Field. Rare left because of financial difficulties, and Nintendo made a BUSINESS decision to let them go. Left Field left because of a falling out with NCL.

You can call it whatever you want, but in the end, Silicon Knights is a 2nd party developer. They were also a company with visions and leaders, as was Retro, before Nintendo stepped in. And yes, it is a team. Silicon Knights is the one that is more independant though. Everyone else is working on a Nintendo franchise in one way or another.

General Gaming / Why do nintendo fans hate Xbox so much?
« on: March 17, 2003, 02:07:12 PM »
Yeah, I prefer the real-time RPG as well, which is why I like Zelda better than Final Fantasy. But thing is, most of the time, the traditional RPG would tend to do better, since that is what the Japanese (ane people of other countries) prefer. And with XBox, there are no Final Fantasys or Dragon Quests. And they are only available on PS2 and soon on Gamecube.

Kung Fi Chaos looks funny (from the movies I saw), but I haven't seen it here in Australia. The way the fights are set in movies is pretty novel. And whatever you say, SSBM IS a fighting game, and it is ALSO a party game. As is Kung Fu Chaos (a fighting game).

Fighting games haven't made it that well on Gamecube, but as far as the N64 is concerned, it rocks.

And Blinx is a crap platformer (I have played it so I CAN pass judgement).

Sorry, but Silicon Knights ain't a 1st party developer. Retro Studios is though. And out of the ex-Rare companies, Zoonami is closest to Nintendo relationship-wise. I hope Nintendo invest in them. And despite being a 3rd party, Factor 5 is as close as any 2nd Party developer can get.

I think it's cool how the ex-Rare teams are doing stuff that relates back to their past works.
If Zoonami is developing a DK game (hard to believe since thier censored press statement has the words space, telescopic and so forth in it, but it would be cool.

The news of EA possibly teaming with Free Radical to make the new Bond is also good news.

Whatever Zoonami are working on, it is sure to be cool, since they were what made Rare anyway (and Free Radical).

Hmmm?

There ARE only 10 of us or so. Not many. We just talk a lot, and contribute more than the other 1900 people here, I guess.
There's not much to talk about on the Aussie Gamecube front anyways, which is why some talk diverts to possible personal lives, relationships with mums, what we should get our sisters and brothers  for Christmas and the odd mention of the Zelda Bonus Discs coming here.

I dunno about Hyperactive, never tried it.
Thing is, it's more interesting to talk about stuff here. I mean, I can't imagine life on an Aussie Gamecube Board:
-Zelda's coming out here with the cool bonus disc deal!
-So? I couldn't give a stuff. Gamecube sucks here.
-..........

Besides, I'm used to here. PGC Forums rock.

Yeah, I wish it was like that, but there are heaps of people who need the net more than I do, liek for study. But there are librarians standing around watching for people who play flash games (the Metroid Prime one on the Nintendo Europe site is COOOOOL! I got busted playing that).
There are also a few Computer Labs on the campus, but hardly nobody goes there.

UWS Bankstown isn't that big a campus, not like Uni of Sydney or Uni of Technology Sydney (UTS).

EB had better ring me tomorrow as well. I WANT SMB2 NOW!
Does anybody know about what time of day They would call you? Just for future referecnce, since I'm home all day tomorrow anyway.

Damn, I hope they have the likes of Metroid, Fzero and Zelda there to play!

... Might also attempt to kick Jade and Ryan in the balls too.

"Hey guys!"

*BAM*

Haha. Right there with ya dude. I'll be there. Look for an Asian fella with a yellow and white 'cougar' shirt, and daaaark blue cargos. I'll also have a worn out coke bag. No crappy goatee, or half assed spiked hair. I'm 175cm. IS that tall? I dunno.  Answers to the name of Steve, Amidala Rocks, Anakin Must Die, Termin8, or Pham. Go to my website (look in sig below) so you guys know what I look like.

Unlike you, I'll shy away in some corner, telling kids how cool Nintendo is, and making them enter the comp. We should all go there. I'll be standing at the base of the stairs in front of Imax, at a time designated by me. Haha. More details soon. Get thusday's Daily Telegraph.

As much as I'd like to kick Matt and Jade's balls, I think I should just say thanks for running one of my fave animes. Then kick em. Haha. And yes, hopefully there are playable Gamecube pods of Zelda, Prime and F-Zero there (doubt it though).

See y'all there at our biggest Nintendo event evah!

There seems to be some sort of problem here. I think that all the store shelves have been duped by Nintendo of Australia. When they say that games are gonna be released, they ACTUALLY mean aproximately 3 weeks later. So really, we could be seeing SMB2 and SMC actually being released next month. And Metoid in May, Zelda in June.

Of course, I could be wrong.

Right now, I am sitting in the uni library typing this up (I'm not supposd to be here, I only allowed to be on for study purposes only. Oooooooh...I got busted once, and now I'm on the corner computer, looking every now and then around my shoulder.....Ooooooooh), and I'm eagerly awaiting the call from EB to pick up my copy of Super Monkey Ball 2 (on my mobile).

*waits patiently............................*
*checks computer task bar. It's 3:00pm*

Damn! I have a tutorial now. Gotta go! See y'all later tonight.

Hang on, how come you're online Mario? Ain't you at school?

Nintendo Gaming / Good Racing Games
« on: March 16, 2003, 12:31:59 PM »
I was at my arcade recently, and there is this racer by Konami called 'Thrill Ride 2'. Like Burnout, it seems to pride itself by having pretty cool crashes when you race. Although not nearly as cool as Burnout's crashes and the accompanying slow-mo, TR2 was pretty fun to play. The way you're driving is like you've got an instructor sitting next to you. She says where to go, and like an instructor, tells you to 'please pull into traffic in a safe mamer'. Of course, you don't, since you're racing against 3 other cars, and when you crash, there is a resulting ear-splitting scream, and you're back on the road.

I don't know what inspired what, but both games are excellent for that speed rush and the crash physics.

Another racer that got my attention was Hydro Thunder. The boats have that satisfying broooooom! to them, the boosts are pretty cool, as is the jumping systems (yank the accelerator lever back into reverse, the press the boost button). A fast game, that is pretty cool to play.

Giving away GAMECUBES when you buy a game? Is this for real, or have you got it mixed?
If it's truem then there'll be no problems with cube numbers.
