Apple zealots will buy anything labeled with a lowercase "i" and a sleek, white exterior. Never mind the price or lack of capabilities!

There is a key difference there. You buy Virtual Console games, you only rent Netflix movies.

You don't buy Virtual Console/Wii Ware/DSi Ware games either.  You license them. :(
True, but I didn't want to get into that technicality.

That's a pretty big technicality. Licensing is just renting for a higher price.

It's basically $10 for one month, you get to receive atleast 4 movies in the mail (assuming you watch and return 1 a week) and you can stream available content(entire season of Spartacus: Blood and Sand so far ;) ) till you've seen all that you care to watch.

I generally manage two batches a week. If you mail them back out the same day you receive them, it's a helluva good value. I used to do three-at-a-time like that, but recently downgraded to the one-at-a-time plan.

I would always recommend getting a Wii over one of the other consoles. The Wii provides an experience and a load of titles that the PS360 simply doesn't. Get them a Wii for the unique experience. Almost anything on the PS360 that's worth playing is available on the PC.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii LAN Adapter - First or Third Party Version?
« on: March 22, 2010, 08:51:31 PM »
It's not the router. It worked fine in my last place. It's a WRT54G from linksys.  I actually bought and tried some new Wireless N router from Linksys with a supposed "range extender" and have the same problem.  I'm not sure what it is about my house, but it doesn't allow for consistant connections.

Flash the router. Switching over to the DD-WRT firmware was the best thing I ever did with my WRT54G. It gives you infinite control over the settings, and that includes the signal strength and spread itself.

For the question itself however, any cheap Ethernet-to-USB adapter should work just fine. You should expect it to be slower than a properly configured G band wireless connection however. It would have been much nicer of Nintendo to have included an actual Ethernet port instead of relying on USB adapters.

Slightly off topic.  I used to live near Hoffman Estates.  I can't imagine making fun games there.  The town is soulless.  They should pick up shop and develop in the heart of Chicago, or even Wrigleyville would be better.  The most inspiring thing near Hoffman Estates is the Woodfield Mall, former Mall of America.  If that doesn't work, move to San Francisco or LA, that way they can at least hire some new blood.

Or they could move as far away the city as possible. That would be much more inspiring. Nothing kills happiness and inspiration like the dirty grime of the city.

Waiting a few days is a small price to pay when you consider the benefits: cheaper general price, larger selection, no tax, usually free shipping, save even more money by not wasting fuel in your car from driving to GameStop, save time (time=money, right?), etc, etc, etc.

The level of customization in the controls was about the only thing I felt The Conduit actually did well. It was so refreshing to see a console game give you so many options. Being able to customize the bounding box for the reticle made it the only decently controlled console FPS ever. Being able to actually aim and look around, without having to push the reticle to the side of the screen, was great. It felt like a real FPS in that regard.

Lame. Just another tracking card for marketing purposes. It'll probably even have an RFID tag in it so that the stores can instantly know who just entered the store and how likely they are to pre-order!

It's sad to see a game as great as Deus Ex be perverted a second time around for console gamers. :(

Okay, Reggie, so why is BioShock 2 NOT on the Wii?  You're the market leader!  Why is this great game not on your console?

Because the Wii can't handle it. I'm sorry, but it can't. As much fun as I have with with the games on the Wii, BioShock would have to be severely weakened to even run well on the little white box. Hell, the HD consoles don't even look that great running it.

If you guys have any questions for HVS, post them now so that I can ask them.

Why? (in regards to the new direction)

And also, would they equate their game to something like Hunter or Gauntlet? 'Twin Stick Shooter' seems a bit off for the theme.

Something with the gameplay of the 3D Gauntlet series would be so much cooler than a Wii FPS.

I finally got around to tearing the plastic off of my demo disc and giving it a try. The demo just made me loose pretty much all interest in this game. It's boring... really boring. The areas are tightly confined and littered with abrupt loading screens (obviously to achieve the decent graphics). The game play itself is dull as can be. Running straight up to the boss monster and simply pressing the A button over and over again until it dies? Please! The only challenge was keeping the camera view straight and trying to juggle potions around.

I think that it does feel similar to Phantasy Star Online. I can't say that it seems nearly as fun however, and I believe that its mainly due to a lack of engaging environments and pleasant controls. It's kind of sad that PSO will probably stand out as a better instanced, casual MMO than this will. Then again, it'll always been difficult to beat the awesome lineup that the Dreamcast had.

Gamestop employees are bullies that try to strong arm customers into buying warranties, player guides, and other garbage they don't want or need.

No, actually, they're paid employees who are making a living or just maintenance money at a job where they are required by their employer to offer those things. Stop making it so personal.

They get to choose whether or not to accept a job offer. If they had any shred of dignity they wouldn't do things such as this just to keep such a meager job.

Just like Best Buy, Radio Shack, and any other number of tech-related stores. Morons that are only told to sell warranties!

The game plays better than Mario Kart Wii, hands down.  The more time I spend with it, the more I enjoy it.  Mario Kart Wii has had the opposite effect.

Really? While the game is quite fun, I felt that the controls were nowhere near as tight as Mario Kart's. Also, the game looks a LOT uglier in split-screen than Mario Kart does.

Typical of GameStop. It's really poor form of Capcom to have chosen them as an outlet instead of simply doing it all mail-order.

Maybe you should print out the information from Capcom and take it in with you? :P

That would be ideal. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. I certainly don't expect it to be however. As far as DRM goes, Valve is at least one of the more tolerant ones.

You can purchase the Orange Box on Amazon for about $30. Sadly, you do have to activate it through Steam, but it's completely free. If ever there was a reason to put up with the crappiness of Steam, then the Orange Box was it. Of course, Left 4 Dead doesn't hurt either.

Even if those games had come to the Wii, you would have been doing yourself a great disservice by not playing them with a mouse and keyboard.

I refuse to get this DLC out of principle, since I don't want to support such a devious money grub. Though I must say that the DLC isn't quite as lame as it was in MM9, and I'm glad that most of the DLC in MM9 is now included in the main game this time around.

All of the DLC is included in the main game this time around as well... you just need to purchase unlock codes to have access to it.
