It's a civil case. The judge couldn't do anything. It's the same reason prostitutes can bring people up for failing to pay for "services rendered".

But a prostitutes "services" can be defined how ever she wants.
"He payed me for 30 minutes of my time, the sex was just because I liked him"

These guys clearly came into the court room, on TV, and admitted to participating in questionable acts for illegal purposes.
As far as I know, mod chipping your console is not illegal, but they both said it was to pirate games. Surely there is legal action that can be taken by interested parties for these 2 idiots being so damn stupid.

I don't care to debate the legalities of prostitution, specifically. I merely mentioned it as an easy parallel. While you're correct, most people (and courts) wouldn't exactly see it as that. Personally? I feel that outlawing such simple things is pretty ridiculous, especially when the sole means of enforcement is generally state-funded deception and outright entrapment or customers.

Now, that aside. Modding hardware isn't illegal, though it's not expressively permitted either. It is circumnavigating copyright protection schemes, which is clearly against the ever-so-corrupt DMCA. However, it allows for a lot of fair-use situations, which are permitted. With the recent rulings on rooting mobile telephones, I think it'd be hard to argue against hardware or software modding. That said, of course pirating games is illegal. The case wasn't to prove whether or not he was pirating games however, it was to prove whether or not the defendant had followed through with the services which had been paid for. Civil cases (like this is parodying) generally don't go fay beyond the immediate situation at hand.

As backwards and corrupt as our legal system often appears, is it any surprise that people take more solace in the commercial-backed safety net of television show judges instead? :P

Pro-Life was better than a lot of the other episodes, but that's not saying much. Cigarette Burns was one of the best, however.

Actually, I was very surprised by Stuart Gordan's entries. Dreams in the Witch House and The Black Cat were easily among my favorite, despite never really liking a lot of his previous works (outside of Re-Animator and From Beyond).

Those animals look so ridiculously fluffy. Obviously, that's what the next generation of handhelds is all about. :)

Besides, only criminals should have a problem with this.

We should start installing tele-screens in everyone's home too! After all, only criminals have something to hide.

Don't start with this again Morari, you have made it clear you don't care about the law.

And you've made it clear that you don't care about morality. So long as it's law, you'll go full steam ahead defending it, regardless of the ramifications. Hell, you probably actuallydo want telescreens in every room of every home throughout America. That way, the government and their corporate overloards can keep everyone in check 24/7. It wouldn't bother you, since you're not a criminal... unless of course they see you with that hacked PSP.

Regardless, these measures won't hold up for long. Nintendo will never be able to lock down their system enough to really matter. Piracy will continue unhindered, whereas homebrew and import efforts will be the ones to struggle. Once again, only legitimate customers will be harmed in the crossfire of a useless struggle.

Do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law?

Scary stuff.  False alarm or not, it should not even be a possibility.  The very idea is a nightmare.

It is very frightening. Of course, it's not too different than what Sony is doing to PS3 modders. The difference being that modders actually have had their homes raided and their equipment confiscated.

I'm surprised by how well the SFX hold up. Honestly, in some scenes, I was more impressed by them then any CGI. Maybe we should go back to old school SFX sometimes instead relying on CGI?

Yes, yes, and yes! CGI never looks very impressive. Traditional F/X will stand the test of time.

"YAR!  GAMESTOP BE EVIL AND DESTROYING THE GAMES INDUSTRY!

They are if you believe game publishers. Anyone who buys a used game might as well be stealing it as far as they're concerned. :P

I thought that this was old news? Gamestop gives you squat for your used games, but then marks them up to near new prices to sell them back to others. Nevermind that pretty much all of their games are "used" anyway, since they unbox so damn many of them. The place is a glorified pawn shop.

I had only ever heard of about five or six of the songs in that video. Regardless, it was pretty entertaining. It actually reminded me of the pop song polkas that Weird Al does.

I was hoping to hear from Ramones tunes, but I don't think they even have four chords... :P

I don't mean to sound like I'm defending the Ramones because I'm a huge fan (which I am a fan of, probably not a huge fan but a fan) but..

Don't get me wrong, I greatly enjoy the Ramones as well. Still, the simplicity of their music cannot be denied.

Meh. Looks pretty harmless to me. No worse than playing spin the bottle. I doubt many twelves year olds would be too interested in this anyway... anyone older (and interested) is probably already doing far "worse" things. This game is designed for bored adults, who want a little "spice" in their otherwise dull lives. :P

Don't blame the entire store because of one moronic employee, I have seen stupid comments like that from people are other retail chains too.

I might not blame the store if this had been the only incident. However, the fact of the matter is that I've had numerous bad experiences in several different GameStop stores over the years. I haven't shopped there in quite a long time, because they've proven themselves to be idiotic pricks. That's not even counting all of the bad experiences I've simply heard about from friends and family (like described in the post above). It's similar to why I try my hardest to never go into places like Best Buy or Radio Shack either. I don't like being harassed in the aisles for unwarranted assistance, then told what some high-school dropout of a "salesman" thinks about my purchase, all before having sales pitches for extended warranties and credit cards shoved in my face. A few bad employees can't entirely be blamed upon the whole chain, but all of these places seem to make it company policy to hire and train people to be the dumbest, most annoying figures they possible could. In this age of global trade, brick and mortar stores should be doing everything they can to differentiate themselves and offer a unique shopping experience... otherwise, I'm logging onto Amazon. :P

Anyway... I'm digging White so far. They've surprisingly made a lot of noticeable improvements. Combining the PokeMart and PokeCenter is great if nothing else. All of the new Pokemon I've encountered thus far have been pretty uninspired though. Admittedly, that's a problem I've had to some extent even since Gen2.

Got Viccini this morning. As a Psychic/Fire type, he could be interesting. Comes in at level 15, so he'll require some grinding.

I had to show my girlfriend's little brother how to download the Liberty Pass and get Victini on his two copies of the game. He was initially quite mad because some retarded GameStop employee told him that Vctini was only for those who had pre-ordered the game through them. Gosh, do I hate that store.

They're forcing it.  PC gamers are ready but handheld/console gamers need a transition first.

Actually, I think that the handheld market is the only place where a strict digital distribution really makes sense. No one likes carrying around a case full of cartridges, that's not portable. Having everything downloaded to your GameBoy and ready to go though...

I always loved Bob Ross. Sure, his paintings were typically generic landscapes, but his technique worked. He caught a lot of flak for even that... his customized brushes and shortcuts were often cited as cheating by your classically trained "artists". Besides, how could you dislike a guy as pleasant as that, with a fro like that? ;)

Have you felt that your Pokemon's sprite is kind of... well, jaggy?

I started playing White today and my Tepig looks anything but smooth while in battle. I don't notice this with the opposing Pokemon, nor have I caught any others to try out on my side yet.

TJ, why do you have a pro-establishment view all the time? Typically the only people who think about college the way you do are those who are in debt for the rest of their lives, with nothing more to show for it than a meaningless piece of paper.
