so the general consensus of Sucker Punch is the trailer is better than the movie?

That's pretty bad. The trailer looks awfully lame. :P

Twin Peaks - ..../10

I loved Twin Peaks. I find it hard not to love just about anything David Lynch puts out however. That said, the middle of the second season is almost unwatchable. They wrap up Laura Palmer's death and then enter into a lull, where every secondary character gets their own side plots. Having to sit through episodes focused on Donna and James was almost enough for me to turn it off at the time. The second season does pick back up however, as the shows centers itself around Cooper again. It's just too bad Lynch made that terrible Twin Peaks film, instead of wrapping up the show's cliffhanger.

Also I can't believe what they do to the Lone Gunmen...

Yeah...

Thankfully, you can always watch their spin-off show! I actually didn't care for it very much at the time, but have since gone back and watched it. It kept me pretty entertained.

Sega really hasn't done a lot worth noting since it left the hardware business. Their initial batch of third-party titles were great, but only because they were already in development as first-party titles (Toe Jam and Earl, Crazy Taxi 3, etc)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The Dreamcast is still the finest example of console gaming to ever grace any living room. The combination of forward-thinking hardware and addictive games made for a very endearing experience.

It does sadden me that I'll never find out how the Shenmue franchise ends now... even after importing the sequel from Europe and going through hell to transfer my save file over from the first.

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, coming to the PC! :)

I always thought it was odd that "Super" wasn't merely an expansion pack. At least they're giving players the option this time.

I don't think that's a fair comparison. Audiophiles generally enjoy higher fidelity through the use of vinyl records and superior equipment. You're not really getting any benefits from playing an actual NES. In fact, you're likely to come across a LOT of negatives.

Anyway, the statement was a mere jest... I'll get off your lawn now, gramps. :P

The NES was never a very reliable system, even back when it was new. I've owned three or four systems over the years and the contacts always need cleaned for the cartridge to work. Most people just blow down into the slot, but that creates moisture (from your spit) and makes the problem worse over time. It's best to keep a can of compressed air around.

...Or jerk out the insides and put a nice mini-ITX based computer inside for emulated goodness! :)

Just make sure your Saturn has round buttons. Those games are way too expensive to put up with oval buttons...

The thing that really gets me about the RIAA, MPAA, and other related bullshit is this (and yes, it's suited for a different topic) - if you download a game, movie, or album over the internet, you can be sued by the RIAA, MPAA, etc, and sued for TONS of money. If you go to the store and steal a CD, game, or DVD, you might get arrested and get probation or something, but you will NOT be sued. So, piracy to them is just as bad as stealing from the store (which is a stretch already), but the punishment is exponentially more severe. It makes no sense.

That's when theoretical loss and damages come into play. You downloading that file has the potential to cause billions in damages... according to the MAFIAA.

Too many lives were ruined when the RIAA went after people for file-sharing a few years back. But unlike them, Hotz wasn't even stealing anything.

Consider that most P2P programs share WHATEVER is on your computer (and set themselves to run at startup), and it's pretty easy to see how a lot of people could have been unintentionally sharing music files.

Sadly, we don't know how many of those people were actually pirating media either. The RIAA scared just about every one of the accused into immediate settlement. It's likely that had more of the cases actually went to court, the RIAA's tactics would have been brushed aside real quick. I understand that most people don't have the finances (or the gall) to fight overblown legal battles against huge corporate entities, so they quickly fold instead. Of course, the RIAA has always known that as well. That's why their entire campaign relies on bullying random people into submission withou ever setting foot in court. They get their money without the fear of legally losing face.

Sony's game is the same and always has been. You need look no further than Bleem or Linksang to see it. And just like the media companies it's not about stopping piracy, it's about maintaining control over distribution channels. Ignoring emerging markets and suing anyone who tries to free up the market is a lot easier way to feed ones greed.

Well this is surprising: Sony has announced a settlement in the case against hacker George Hotz.  Other than a permanent injunction being instated against Hotz, Sony does not state what the terms of the settlement were.

Not surprising at all. Scaring defendants into settling is a pretty classic tactic of large corporations. Hatz doesn't have the financial backing that Sony has, and Sony doesn't want to have any precedent set for what equates to jailbreaking on the PS3.

In other words, it was a action movie designed to attract the masses, not just the fans of the previous series.

They already have Star Wars for that. They should have left Star Trek well alone.

Ugh, it disgusts me that this movie is getting a sequel, but hey...the original Star Trek movie was horrible, and it got a stellar sequel that righted all the wrongs of its predecessor.  Maybe this Trek's sequel will do the same?

I'd rather see a high-budget Klingon miniseries, all subtitles! :)

No sane person would aim for ten years and then go with something already somewhat out-of-date at the time.

No sane person would go for ten years, period.

Stargate, like Buffy, is a case where the TV show eventually exceeded the original movie. Highlander is probably better too, if you average it out with the movie sequels.

I liked the Buffy film a lot better, personally. The show started taking itself way too seriously somewhere along the line. Besides, only one of them had Paul Reubens. :)

The only Highlander films really worth watching are the first two, and that's only if you watch the "Renegade Version" of the second one. The anime was alright (Search for Vengeance?)... The shows were kind of up and down, with the Raven being more so.

I've never watched any of the Stargate shows. I was immediately turned off by the idea when it was announced that they were recasting the film's characters instead of simply writing them off.

The first Death Note live action film is well worth the watch as well. The sequel is only worth watching if you enjoy the first film. I'd advice that no one watch that terrible L: Saves the World spin-off however.

One hot evening in Padua they carried him up onto the roof and he could look out over the top of the town. There were chimney swifts in the sky. After a while it got dark and the searchlights came out. The others went down and took the bottles with them. He and Luz could hear them below on the balcony. Luz sat on the bed. She was cool and fresh in the hot night.

Luz stayed on night duty for three months. They were glad to let her. When they operated on him she prepared him for the operating table; and they had a joke about friend or enema. He went under the anaesthetic holding tight on to himself so he would not blab about anything during the silly, talky time. After he got on crutches he used to take the temperatures so Luz would not have to get up from the bed. There were only a few patients, and they all knew about it. They all liked Luz. As he walked back along the halls he thought of Luz in his bed.

Before he went back to the front they went into the Duomo and prayed. It was dim and quiet, and there were other people praying. They wanted to get married, but there was not enough time for the banns, and neither of them had birth certificates. They felt as though they were married, but they wanted everyone to know about it, and to make it so they could not lose it.

Luz wrote him many letters that he never got until after the armistice. Fifteen came in a bunch to the front and he sorted them by the dates and read them all straight through. They were all about the hospital, and how much she loved him and how it was impossible to get along without him and how terrible it was missing him at night.

After the armistice they agreed he should go home to get a job so they might be married. Luz would not come home until he had a good job and could come to New York to meet her. It was understood he would not drink, and he did not want to see his friends or anyone in the States. Only to get a job and be married. On the train from Padua to Milan they quarreled about her not being willing to come home at once. When they had to say good-bye, in the station at Milan, they kissed good-bye, but were not finished with the quarrel. He felt sick about saying good-bye like that.

He went to America on a boat from Genoa. Luz went back to Pordonone to open a hospital. It was lonely and rainy there, and there was a battalion of arditi quartered in the town. Living in the muddy, rainy town in the winter, the major of the battalion made love to Luz, and she had never known Italians before, and finally wrote to the States that theirs had only been a boy and girl affair. She was sorry, and she knew he would probably not be able to understand, but might some day forgive her, and be grateful to her, and she expected, absolutely unexpectedly, to be married in the spring. She loved him as always, but she realized now it was only a boy and girl love. She hoped he would have a great career, and believed in him absolutely. She knew it was for the best.

The major did not marry her in the spring, or any other time. Luz never got an answer to the letter to Chicago about it. A short time after he contracted gonorrhea from a sales girl in a loop department store while riding in a taxicab through Lincoln Park.
