TalkBack / Re: Raise Your Standards
« on: July 21, 2008, 11:52:01 PM »
While I didn't buy the Wii because I thought it would have the best looking games I do agree with Jonny. Too many Wii games appear lackluster and I am a vote with yr dollah cat so I often feel myself to be a stranded gamer in that I don't like FPS's or rhythm based games, but I did play Metroid and I loved the crap out of Twilight Princess! I also feel that Brawl is graphically superior than Melee having played Melee since I bought my Wii. I own Zack and Wiki, while I don't feel it's the best looking game, it is nicer than most games and it's fun.
I bought the Wii because I believed that it would bring me a new way to enjoy games and I'm not a graphics whore to be honest, but the lack of detail in many titles I see is just sad. I've often thought of trying to boycott games and developers, but it would be very difficult to change how things are run (I'd love to hear some ideas). As it stands the regular gamer has no control or influence over the industry, it's run on  trends and right now being graphically amazing isn't in.

Yes, it's true that Electroplankton allows for significantly more creativity than Wii music, but the end result is really the same... an experience where you do press buttons (or spin things, or tap things) and it makes some sound, and there's no way to fail.

The end result of Wii Music and Electroplankton are different because Wii Music gives you  a song that you must pick to play along with. Electroplankton gives you tools to manipulate to create whatever you want. I will admit that you will not get a traditional song structure from it, but that is the point. It is sound exploration. Wii Music is telling people that no matter who you are, you can play any instrument and sound good no matter what- unless you're trying to demo the game at E3 with a bunch of game Execs that look like zombies, then it just comes off cold.
There is no room to fail in a environment like Electroplankton because the structure of the title is pure experimentation while Wii Music literally is taking your timed motion and patching it into a song that already exists. You don't need a chance to win when exploration is involved, that what Electroplankton has while Wii Music is a karaoke bum's  Rock Band for people who have no rhythm- the fail safe is built in and glaring at everything the Wii system brought to the industry, throwing up all over it and telling the casual dogs to eat up.

I play the crap out of Wild World in cycles so I will be getting this. It looks the same and I'm fine with it. Communication is key to the game so all the ways that you can connect from WiiConnect24, DS transfers, sending letters to other devices makes me excited. So excited I'm going to play my game after months of negligence, so I can have cool stuff to drag into the Wii title.
What is lame is that the WiiSpeak is going to be sold separately. I think if you were able to play your as your Mii by default Animal Crossing would be seen as trying to warm up to the casual blue ocean aesthetic. I'm glad that the title was announced, it's one of my favorite games ever.

I completely object to Jonny's comparison of Wii Music to Electroplankton. E-plankton contains a good amount of creative possibilities, not all of it is perfect, but there is more good than anything else. Wii Music is rhythmic karaoke and I refuse and object that trash. It didn't look good last year and it's not working out. They're going to release it and I'm going to roll over and fart.
Also Wii Fit DOES have push ups. Get back on the board, yo.

Good video that's pretty much how I picture the set up I'd like. I'm definitely considering getting a second DS so I can work with the other sound programs with the Korg.

I had GTA for the GBA and it was so bad I got from a bargain bin for ten dollars. It didn't stop me from playing, what did was the major glitch that prevented me from beating the game EVER.
I hope at least this one is as good as the PSP title. Generally I'm very bored with GTA ideas and functionality. I really could care how great the game looks because shooting at people is still shooting at people. But since there's nothing I can think of that allows me to call tanks from the sky and wreck havoc on poor fools then I am all for it.
My first response when I heard the press conference was "It's about time". Let's hope it's worth it. Also New York has an insane amount of style and color, it isn't our fault developers can't reflect that *psh*

This is cool, I always felt the sensoring was a bit sluggish, if this works out it can make everyone go back to replay old titles. At this point though, the Wii has more add ons and accessories than all the other systems, it's crazy.

I'm not very religious, but I could be about this title. Thanks for the word Flames of chaos. I was going to mention that your info has been great recently and then you replied to this, I can't believe it, you're great. Thanks!

TalkBack / Re: New Mega Man 9 Gets Price and DLC
« on: July 10, 2008, 06:18:30 AM »
Compare this to a DS game's price. They could've made it on DS and charged you $30 for it (example: Contra 4). Not they're making it on WiiWare and charging you $10 for it. What are people so up in arms about?

It's not the game specifically, but the nature of the system. The size of the game as well as the DLC and the unknown qualities of that content send me to speculation about it. I don't want to spend 8 dollars on a new weapon to beat the game. I just hope the whole game is there, I've already accepted the fact that I will have to toss out channels when I buy it and that shouldn't be at all.
I may feel more optimistic about this situation after E3 depending on what Nintendo's solution about storage is.
By the way, Contra 4 has the first two NES Contra games on the cart, that's well worth the price, but what if you're stuck in the game and the solution you get is spending money on a new power to make progress? It's total speculation, but it would burn.
Tanookisuit- combined with the game price and the price of the DLC we could eventually shell out that much, what then?

I haven't been really pleased or excited about any WiiWare titles to date. The space they require and the price to pay haven't equalize into fun for me.
I like 8 bit Mega Man the most and I'm happy it's coming out, but so help me if it isn't a full game the day of release I may shoot a hole through my system. WiiWare is wearin me out!

It's bad news for the developers and it sucks for anyone excited about this title (anyone????). Strike against Nintendo for dicing their deal and assuming that blue oceaners are minors. If Nintendo only knew that I drink when I play games.

Instant buy.... but not for $50. Still waiting for Super Wario Bros. Waluigi is lame, but I'd still like to see it happen. Nintendo has done well in the past self-referencing/parodying the Mario series.

I have been dreaming of a Wario Bros game for some months now. It would at least give Waluigi a purpose. The fact that Nintendo purposely snubs Luigi sets Waluigi for failure.
The game footage reminds me of the Super Mario Land series. Looks cool.
Thanks to Luigi Dude for the video links!

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Chrono Trigger DS = REAL
« on: July 03, 2008, 01:49:20 AM »
It seems FF13's bankruptcy crisis has kicked into high gear.

In order for Square to maintain funding and production on its "next-generation" Alamo, it has to pull out the Holy Grail of ports to feed off the hardcore for one last shot at financing their very own doom.

I suspect the whole theory and have for some time now. Does Square Enix have any real ideas for games? Just because the games are classic doesn't mean they have to be remade and considering FF's insane epicness it gets old and done faster than you can care. At least it's Chrono Trigger and not another FF remake.

994
Speaking of Luigi, maybe they'll announce Luigi's Mansion for the Wii.  Using the Wii mote as the vacum.

I would be so happy if they did. Some people mentioned this possibility here months ago, but I've heard of no such intention and I wouldn't consider Luigi's Mansion "hardcore" (but for that matter I tear apart all ideas of casual and hardcore) enough for a sequel, but I would jump around for it. Maybe a Wii sequel could be eventually come down the pipes, I wouldn't complain.

I haven't played Chrono Trigger in years, I hope they just port the original and not release a complicated remake, sometimes 3d isn't the best way to present something and Chrono Trigger had great art that should be retained. *hopes*

Sometimes I get so upset at Square Enix that I swear I won't ever buy anything with their name on it and then they come along with some thing I love and then I just hope they don't wreck it.
I agree with Smakian though, I think it will be a straight port with some new stuff added to it. I love Chrono Trigger a lot. My friend lent me the cartridge and I played it until he forced me to give it back.
Want!

I want it more than ever!!

I love when the producer said.  "They are VERY drunk...at that time!"  Classic.

In all seriousness though, this is a remarkable application for the DS.  Anyone w/ just basic musical and software skills can bring a lot out of it, as well as just having fun.  I can only hope they make a version in English.

I read in Wired today that a world release is set for July http://blog.wired.com/music/2008/06/music-creation.html I really can't wait. I hope it doesn't take too long to get here, how much text could the app really have, right? I mean, they wouldn't make us wait past Christmas right? Right?

998
I hope they show Animal Crossing regardless of when it comes out here (I say next year), Kid Icarus even though it's all just been insane chatter. A sequel to Red Steel would be appreciated, as well as a F Zero because they gave us that wheel and nothing else to rock it on. I'm not very excited about a Kirby game, but I'll take it if they do. I'd like a real RPG please, I feel that I keep running to my DS for them and I can't deal anymore. Also they will really have to smile a lot when they reveal the solution to the storage problem. A LOT!
If they show off a new DS I'll freak out, but I seriously doubt it.
