Nintendo Gaming / Re: Animal Crossing: New Leaf for 3DS
« on: May 21, 2013, 08:19:53 PM »
NOA is releasing Animal Crossing videos with some Treehouse developers talking about different topics. The first one deals with localization, the second is about connectivity, the third is about your first day in town and the newest one is about customizing your home. It looks like they are releasing a video daily. While most of it is all details that we might already know about and the graphics aren't exactly showing anything new either I really like them. Check the playlist of all the videos here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2JiZAV5BmDVb6eg9Pq9ZQk5vTdeS7vKS You can also check these out on the 3DS eShop.

I'm also bumping this thread so that the recent thread about New Leaf can maybe be added to this one so we can have a nice unified forum thread. Can that happen?

I'm so hyped for this game that I'm probably going to be camping outside of the Nintendo Store that weekend it comes out. I've been fighting the urge to play past iterations, but I've been absorbing all the media I can in order to gain insight without running into spoilers. I seriously can't wait.

True about the Maxims, which I personally don't care much for and personally it's detractor, but I don't mean that I think the show is bad at all, it's just based on different rules than Adventure Time. I could see the Beavis and Butthead comparison because the main characters are buddies, but they aren't that idiotic or perhaps it's the themes that are different between the shows.

204
You can watch Regular Show on Netflix. That Adventure Time title is awesome.

Neither are on Netflix UK.

Oh. Well then.... Regular Show is like Adventure Time if the characters were in college, but I find that it isn't actually as random as Adventure Time. It's not a bad show, but for me Regular Show is just "okay" when compared to Adventure Time.

So I keep getting random Miis in the plaza that are labeled as 'Met through Invite'. What is up with them? And why do they not seem to count towards my street pass totals? Is it a failed street pass that only got partial information before leaving?

And I know a new reason why it is so hard to street pass in America. Kids don't have their systems set up for it. I saw a family in my restaurant I work at playing with it and they either fully turned off the system when they ate or didn't have it set up for wireless communication. I almost went out and talked to them but I didn't want to be the weird creepy adult with a 'Nintendo toy' trying to get the kid's system to communicate with mine. That seems strange as an outsider. I'll bet a lot of well-intending parents who don't understand how it works make sure it is disabled to protect their kids.

I have gotten a number of Invitation Only Miis as well. I think it happens because they don't have a Mii set up for Street Pass, but they have a game, like 3D Land and they set up street pass in the game so data passes, but you don't get their Mii. I think that's how it goes, I haven't tested anything, but I've gotten actual game data from them in the past.

I also see lots of people with 3DS out in public. I get a good number of Street Passes on the regular, but from time to time I see someone who has a 3DS and their online is off or whatever. One time I saw a guy around my age, late 20's, playing an XL on an empty train car and I asked him what he was playing- Fire Emblem so we talked about the game and whatnot only to find later that we never Street Passed each other. I think some people might be under the impression that you need to be online to get Street Pass, but it isn't true.

This is the biggest feature I've been waiting to come to the 3DS.. That and posting 3D vids in Swapnote, but that will likely never happen.

I was a little confused by all the jargon, but I'm just going to take Iwata working directly with NOA will actually give us things that we've wanted from Nintendo: a unified id system for their platforms among other things. I think this could be a fresh reset for how Nintendo has been operating in general.

In Wild World you can choose a new town map whenever you rebooted the town, I would be interested in actually deciding which way streams flowed (north to south or west to east) and where the beaches and other things were set.
10, 000 Bells is alright, but I hope there is a better way to making lots of bells faster than previous games. How long will we have to be Hobo Mayors?

Sweet, the Korg DS-10 is fun to mess around with, but it is pretty limited so a heftier version is great. I'm definitely picking this up.

It's pretty sad when I'm contemplating picking up 3D Classics Urban Champion just because I have a ton of coins on Club Nintendo and nothing worth spending them on.  :-\
I've heard that version is actually decent

You heard wrong. The graphical upgrade does nothing for the game play.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Style Savvy Trendsetters
« on: February 22, 2013, 05:33:39 PM »
My daughter LOVED the 2 demos for this game and has been begging me to buy it for her for half a year.  She's already gone through all of her allotted "uses" for both demos.     But I can't bring myself to spend $40 on it, when there are similar games in this genre cost 99cents on IOS.  I've been kind of lying to my daughter and telling her it's not out yet.    I'm willing to spend...oh, $20 for a used copy, but for some reason, this game absolutely REFUSES to get marked down.  $30 on Amazon?  That's getting closer, but not close enough.

And though I haven't played a second of it, my daughter swears that it is over and above so much better than anything similar on IOS.

I'm no an expert in IOS games let alone style sims on the platform, but I have heard that this Style Savvy has much more than the DS game as well as any game currently out there. Here's a run down of the features: You can run your own online shop that people you StreetPass can visit and buy items, Spot Pass updates designs for clothes that you can sell in your shop, Local Multiplayer is a fashion show for up to four players- winner gets clothes!, AR Photo shoot- this is probably loads of fun with the giant AR card and there is an in-game demo for friends to try.
Also my GF keeps mentioning how the characters are mentioning weather related dialogue that coincides with our weather directly- not like "Oh it's cold today", but more like "I want to shop before the storm tomorrow". Based on that we figured the game will have seasonal trends for designs and wardrobes so expect lots of updates for new clothes and stuff.
So yeah this game is stuffed and looks to be a rather ambitious title. I read the Iwata Asks, but they actually didn't mention much about the game at all, but focused on their playing styles. I hope that sheds some light on the game for anyone on the fence about this.

Cool read, sort of noir. I can't personally remember anything about Valentine's and Animal Crossing, but I'm sure I played Wild World during one year or two.

June can't come fast enough!!

Yes to everything except Mario Golf, which I can always do without. I'm only down for DKLR if there's a Banana Rush Mode or something like it. There's gotta be something new with that game otherwise I can't justify its existence.

As far as the Nintendo Direct goes, the way he made it sound was that it will be the same exact one Japan got, but with English subtitles.

That wouldn't surprise me and I wouldn't mind that at all, but Animal Crossing always has great cultural specific items and events for each region and I'd to hear about that stuff.

Recently I got my Mii Plaza population above 3,000 so now instead of an actual number my population reads 3,000+  I also have a new job and a new commute so I'm getting new Street Passes these days, they are actually responsive with funny messages, it's cool. Has anyone completed the Fire Emblem puzzle? I need 3 more pieces!

Okay as per today's Nintendo Direct Animal Crossing New Leaf is out June 9th. That's a Sunday which is great for me. There's a super chill trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_UmQ0S1C10 Bill Trinen hinted that there will be another Nintendo Direct with more details about New Leaf, I hope it's a whole dedicated ND like the one Japan got.

I may have been thinking about Bells in the wrong context with this version of Animal Crossing. What if you're not really just 'hustlin for bells' and because you're The Mayor you may actually have a Town Budget? Maybe the scale of Bells that you handle will just be adequate. Maybe you don't have to spend all damn day getting fruit fish and fossils to trade for money to buy items you actually want. Maybe the daily objectives have been completely flipped for this game and it will be something completely different and new.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Donkey Kong Country Returns announced for 3DS
« on: February 14, 2013, 05:40:52 PM »
When I heard the announcement this morning I was sort of upset and excited. I'm upset because many people have already played this game and if it's just a port then what is the reason I need this on my 3DS? I'm excited because I actually haven't beaten this damn game yet- I forget where I left off, but the difficulty level is just crazy and I have a Love/Hate Relationship with the game.
I just watched the trailer and it looks real nice for a game that's not ready to be unfinished. I hope they add something meaningful to this version to give it an incentive as to why this deserves a purchase. It seems like this is something Nintendo might not have planned to put out and maybe had DKCR running on the 3DS for a different purpose. I think they needed a gap to fill so they just squeezed this one out. I could be wrong though and maybe Nintendo will add some great multiplayer, street pass and additional levels. Maybe a Banana Rush Mode?!

Ejamer based on your list you should watch the whole thing. They touch on a number of those titles as well as a slew of Eshop titles and sales going on. It was a great Nintendo Direct this time. Animal Crossing FTW!

I'm with everyone else holding out for Animal Crossing news. I'd also really like to hear about Miiverse on the 3DS, but I'm not sure since not even Nintendo has said much about it. Any 3DS news in general is best for me since that's all I'm playing nowadays.

From what I've been reading, you can change it whenever you want (the changes take effect the following day), but it costs 20,000 bells to make the change.

That's awesome and brutal. I expect to at least change the schedules once a week or at least to ensure I don't miss certain items. I found bells really hard to earn in City Folk as oppose to Wild World so I hope the effort for Bells isn't a frustrating hustle.

You do have some control over the shop hours, and I think his question was regarding how much control it was.

Basically I want to know if you can change the hours of the shops whenever you like (day to day) or if at some point you have to choose a schedule and can't alter it in the future.

I'm holding out for a XL bundle with New Leaf, it seems inevitable with the way Nintendo has been releasing 3DS bundles. I don't really care if it's the Japanese LL design or something entirely new, I just want it.

Does anyone have any details about how the scheduling for the shops work? I would like to have the stores open in the late part of the day, but would like to change the hours on the weekends. Are you committed to the initial hours you set up or can you change it whenever you want?

After reading this I instantly knew I this was the tipping point for me. I was going to get a Wii U sometime anyway, but this is the bundle I want unless something better comes out- Same deal, but with Pikmin maybe?
