The game specific stores don't serve much purpose, I make it my business to avoid them at all costs. There are very few legit game shops that aren't chains anywhere, that's a bit of a problem because game shops that have integrity usually have to jack their prices up to stay in business.
The biggest reason that stops me from going to Amazon is that I'm a spoiled big city guy and paying for shipping.

A better SD drive would have been the best solution. I wouldn't want to play a streaming game if it had to buffer every few seconds, but would rather opt for an online place to store games I guess. I really wish that Nintendo would have seen this situation before hand and prepared for it accordingly with hard drive or boot off SD cards.
If they're not making a hard drive then what will those damned USB ports be used for aside from charging stuff and just what are they developing?

I saw a response from someone on another website who suggested that Nintendo might do the following:

"1) Compression. The games get compressed on the existing internal storage and decompressed as needed.

LIKELIHOOD: Not very
REASON: Compression is nice, but if you have everything compressed, where does it expand to as needed? You could limit compression to guarantee that the biggest allowed game could expand, but that's not likely.

2) Offline storage, like what Valve and Steam are beginning to offer. This means that you can purchase a game and it stays on a Nintendo server somewhere. When you want to play it, they either send the whole thing or stream it to you as needed. When you want to play something else, the new games overwrite the old ones as necessary.

LIKELIHOOD: Very High
REASON: Nintendo doesn't want to provide external storage, because that's how those pesky pirates manage to crack things and trade them at will. If the game stays on the Wii's internal memory or on their servers, that lessens the pirating abilities. The issues here are bandwidth, availability, server uptime, etc., not to mention the associated cost. Will it be $19.95 a year for a "Nintendo Wallet" or something like that? I have no idea.

That also goes with Nintendo's strategy (as mentioned) of making it as simple as possible. No new SKUs, no extra hardware at all -- just an optional offline storage solution that's completely in their control. Will it work? Probably, but not without some grumbling.

If there's another viable solution to the storage issue that doesn't involve any external storage solution, I'm all ears. I can't think of it though."

Offline storage idea has been the most realistic idea for dealing with the situation other than screaming for a hard drive and if Nintendo has a way where I won't have to make more room for something I'll never use or only use for the Wii then I'm down. The idea of buying a Wii specific hard drive irritates me- mostly because I just bought a terrabyte of drive, though I doubt it would be as expensive.

You can probably get it easily if you're willing to pay $140...
That's true, but is Wii Fit worth that? You could argue about the technology and hardware of the board, but is that even worth $90? I wouldn't pay 110 for it and that's why I just held out. I think that if someone paid $100 for the game from a retail store then they have been ripped off. My total for Wii Fit came out to $97.53.

Full Fist and well done to Fleece for supporting Contact.

I've taken a few Wii Fit exercises and included them in my normal exercise routine without even turning Wii Fit on, so when I play Wii Fit i only do a couple of exercises, and mostly play the games. The game does waste a lot of time though in menus and crap, pretty counterproductive to the point of the damn game.
I actually thought there would be more waste time going from one exercise to the next, but unless you're actually changing the workout it doesn't take any time at all. At least you don't have to point the remote at the screen.
Thanks, Contact is turning out to be the sort of game that I can enjoy for a long time. Get it if you can find it!

I live in New York where mom and pop game shops are very far and in between. I have the advantage of being around the Nintendo Store so if they do an event for a title I like I will go a head and preorder, but I've only done it through them. Every other game store can suck it, the way they treat customers in general is bad.
When No More Heroes came out I had to walk through most of Manhattan, hit up about 5 stores and finally got mine after all the  chains told me I had to preorder it- and the Nintendo Store didn't even stock it the day it came out.
If I don't preorder a title that I want and I can't get it. I bite the bullet, wait and then act when the world's got their back turned. That's how I got Wii Fit :P

Did you have trouble finding one, Fleece? And where'd you pick it up? It seems like the stores are always sold out around here.

I live in New York and getting Wii Fit is tough. I went over to the only legit game shop in the city to get a copy of Contact for DS and I jokingly inquired about their Wii Fit stock to which I was answered with a head shake and a simple no.
The next day I got up at 5 and went to the Nintendo World Store and stood online for three hours until they opened. When they handed out tickets to claim Wii Fit I saw only 20 were given out and about 150 people were lined up.

I got Wii Fit today and I'm thin to start so I thought it would tell me to eat a burger or something, but instead I have to lose 4 lbs. I like it a lot except that I want to explore all of the features, but I keep getting tired. My Wii Fit age is 39 and I'm much younger so I look forward to getting toned up. I'll play on and off throughout the day and then once every day to see how it works out. Are there any workouts that work the shoulders and back?

Tartakovsky's Clone Wars > any Lucas Clone thing Wars Stars
A little birdie told me that this may be a Smash Bros. clone.
Hmmmmm thats kinda cool. I want a DS smash bros that has nothing to do with Naruto.

My message says that the chest is in the Old Mines. I'm in a mine, I'm assuming it's that one. I got the power to move the elements around. Beard guy wants to see me after I find the chest. I have gone as far West as possible. There's a gate far far west in the mine and I can't break it open to go further. I can go back East to town and even into the old village, but there's nothing there for me yet.

Edit: Actually, do you have the Vortex move yet?  Because if not I know exactly where you need to go and I'm uploading a clip...

That's the last thing I got.

1011
Sorry, but I just can't figure out where you are.  Maybe there's an application of the abilities you have that you haven't figured out, or maybe you've just overlooked something.  I know that's not very helpful advice.
It's alright, thanks for trying to help. I'm going to have another go tonight. I might restart just to make sure I didn't miss anything along the way. This wouldn't be an issue if there was a map :P

1012
What does the gate look like?
It's the kind with the iron bars. There is a guy standing on the other side of the gate and I can't talk to him or anything else.

I seem to recall getting pretty clear directions to the mine, but I can't remember exactly what they were off the top of my head.  If it's the second chest, then I think it's to the left of where you started the game.
That's the one and I got the chest, but I can't get out. I can go back to the town, but it's clear that I have to go farther west. There's a gate I can't break with a guy standing on the other side, a fire that can't be utilized (clearly to me) and a big pain that won't let me carry items over to the next screen.
Bah.

I got it and I like it a lot, control of the wind adds to the imagination as far as what can be used. I wish I had a map because I'm totally stuck now.
Have you played Metroid when you get a new wind ability try going everywhere to see where your new ability might gain access. Also if you press the minus button you will get a hint of where to go next.:)

I've played lots of Metroid and the like. I've been stuck in the same place since last night. I'm supposed to find the chest in the mine and I don't know where it is. I'll figure it out :P
Reading about the total game time is a little disappointing, I wasn't aware it was so short. This first wave of Wii Ware doesn't interest me much. I'll play LostWinds and will wait for the next release or whatever. I also agree that WiiWare and Virtual Console should have separate release days, but I bet they won't.
I'm still stuck.

In order to get Lostwinds I had to gut my Wii of Virtual Console titles and Wii Channels- more than I thought I would have. I can't see how Nintendo can't address the Wii's memory  before the Summer's over.

Has anyone noticed that the people you race in worldwide and regional races Mii's appear in the Mii Parade? I only noticed this because of a very distinct Mii I raced against and I go to the Mii Parade (I like to see how much it has grown) and there is said Mii along with a bunch of others I recognized from various races. Also,, you know how Miis appear in various forms around the game, whne playing online does my competitor see my Mii's or his/her own?

I've noticed this too and I like it because I can get a cool Mii from someone without getting their Wii Code. As far as if they can see your Mii as a say, ad or statue on the stage- I would guess yea because I've see Mii's that I don't have acting as such. I was excited for a few days after noticing all this!

- You can pause and rewind/fast forward videos.  Extremely useful.  There are video volume level controls through the Wii Remote, too.
I am not able to find the controls for the video. How do you rewind and fast forward?

There's also the recommendation system and the game search, which is much better than sifting through the Wii Shop Channel.  Curiously, though, not all publishers' games are listed in the index at this time.  I speculate it's because they haven't signed on with (read: paid) Nintendo to put their games on the channel yet.  Shouldn't be very long, though.

This is really cool, I already did a few. Is there any hope of DS titles making the list? I found the DS demo downloads to be a lot faster than public DS download stations. I'm hoping for Gauntlet and Metal Slug demos and videos of games in development, that would be cool.

THAT...SAMPLE MUSIC...IS SO...HOT.

Any video though?

And... How could I output this into something I can actually save on my computer? Would that involve a little technomancy or something?

I was planning on running the DS through a digital 4 track so that I wouldn't have to put anything foreign into my system. I'm sure that people have hacked the DS so that you can save sound and whatever, but I'm not into it so much since I only have one.
There are lots of videos on YouTube- search for Korg DS-10

I've been watching this for months and I'm surprised no one's made any mention of it. AQ has developed a Korg-10 synthesizer for the DS and it's really cool and easily blows the other music or sound applications like Jam Sessions and Electroplankton away as a stand alone app.
It was announced to be released in Japan but was recently announced for a worldwide release. I'm pretty sure I will have to do a bit of hunting once an US version is out, but in the meantime I'm pretty interested about it because yes I jack my DS into amps and effect pedals and I make games and other things sound cool  8)

I've heard a lot of talk about this game and it would be cool to see what the big deal is. I thought Zombies Ate My Neighbors was released already, what's the hold up on that?

I've experienced some lag during in-game and online play, mostly when going really really fast or  when someone else is, but not very much and the game over all is great. I thought you would be able to friend strangers, but you can't. Also I am bad with the wheel, but I want to try and get good with it.

I think the inclusion of the POW Block defeats the Spiny Shell, the shell should have been left out. Even though the retro tracks are included the small changes are a bit fun. The overall breadth of the new courses make up for this.

Is anyone planning to be at the Nintendo World Store for this launch event on Saturday?  I'm actually in NYC so I plan to try and stop by.

Also, I'll go make Mario his friend code thread if it isn't already there.

I was going to go, but I actually got Mario Kart today!

Yeah... so guys... River City Ransom....

I got word of this earlier today and this has been on my VC wish list. I wouldn't mind playing Double Dragon either, the game play on both of them are similar, but they feel entirely different to me. Watch out for the rest of the Double Dragon games though, that series went down hard. None of us should have to play as Battletoads on the Wii, I'm sure that's illegal some place.
