Title: Topic of the Day
Post by: Khushrenada on January 02, 2020, 08:41:43 AM
As Assistant to the Community Manager  8), I'm still scheming about how to keep conversations and interest on this forum happening. I still maintain that my "5 posts a day" idea would be all this forum needs if the regulars participated (and it could probably drop down to 3 if enough were doing it) but, unlike the cost of coffee per day, it seems to be too much for people here.   ;)

So, moving on to my next idea. Each day of the week (except for Saturday and Sunday which will have just have 1 topic for the weekend), I thought I'd highlight a topic, conversation or event for the interest of the community to participate in or be aware of. This could be anything from a topic in the gaming forums, a news item, a review whether it be Talkback, Reader or Movie/TV, a Funhouse joke thread, etc. I have sometimes noticed on NWR's Discord that there can be an interesting topic for discussion that will arise and get a bit of activity but then can be lost as the conversation and infinite scroll moves on. From time to time, I may pull a topic from there to discuss further here.

I'll try to have something chosen by 1:00 PM EST though depending on what is going on for me that day then I may not always meet that deadline. (And I'm sure it will be later on Saturday for the weekend. :P ) You can check in here for the link to the Topic of the Day as I will post it here in a new post in reply to this thread.

FWIW, I hate infinite scroll in discord so never check there, but I get the feeling it's way more happening then the forums these days? All the cool cats go there right?  I'm just too old...

Some days it is. Yes, on average, there are more posts there per day than the forums but there can be long periods without any major discussion happening as well. I keep up with the scroll for the most part but 75% of the time it is also a lot of stuff and posting that kind of bores me so...

As long as no one is talking about me behind my back.

But topics of the day sound fun.

Welp. It's a bit past the deadline I was going to set and the topic I thought of creating is going to take some more work. Meanwhile, Discord is practically dead soooooo, let's go with.....

Who likes hot sauce? (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=63987.0)

Also, although it was created before this topic of the day idea, if you haven't checked out Daan's Top 30 Games for 2019 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=63958.0), it is still worth a perusal.

Fear not. We prefer to say bad things face-to-face for the full impact.

Spicy!
But Daan's article is way more interesting... even if it is yesterday's news.

Weekend Reading!

With 84th Mafia game about to start soon, let's go with the Sign-Up Thread for the game (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=63900.0) as the main topic for the weekend and give a final reminder for everyone about joining it in time.

A couple other things worth-highlighting would be:

Shaymin/Donald's Predictions for the year (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=63988.0) as we wait for the first Nintendo Direct to drop and start giving us some legit info for 2020.

If he had started it earlier on Friday, I'd have made it the topic of the day but I was too anxious to post something sooner. In any case, if you are looking for an outlet to post something stupid with cats then pokepal's lolcat takeover (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=63989.0) is the place to be.

And with The Mandalorian over, the discussion is already beginning on whether D+ is still worth it and the future of that streaming service in the Disney+ Thread. (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=57728.175). Feel free to jump in there with your thoughts on the shiny digital streaming future.

There's a chance you may have already checked it out yesterday. I was hoping it might have been released closer in the evening but in any case so that it would be a little fresher but I'm still going to go with NWR's 2019 Game Awards (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/52515/nintendo-world-reports-2019-game-awards) as the topic of the day.

Continuing the theme of 2019 review, today's topic is what you played in 2019 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64015.0) whether it was a 2019 release or not.

I'm late, I'm late. Well, one thread getting more attention of late is the NBA thread and injury talk (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=50363.1975) so let's make that the Topic of the Day.

Tough call. Various topics have some activity happening. There is the weekly downloads topic I could highlight but it doesn't have the spreadsheet anymore or a link to a site listing all the sales available for Nintendo's eShops.

But I think I'm going to go with the place generating the most user heat right now and that is the Mafia 84 Day 3 Thread (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64086.0) Critical time for the players as the mafia side continues to elude the townie side and the game could soon be split into three groups making for a tough endgame. How's it going to play out?

Well, it may not be the hottest topic on the forums based on posts so far but the news that the next Smash DLC character will be revealed Friday (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64108.0) has got the Discord channel buzzing. Topic of the day! (And I know what Friday's topic will be too.  ;D )

Another slower day so let's do something stale a blast from the past. No one has been able to win this game yet but maybe it can happen now. Will you be the one to make UncleBob reply to this thread? (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=47827.0)

As predicted, today's topic is the news on Smash's latest character addition. (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64117.0)

Except, I thought the 16th was Friday earlier this week so I did make a bit of a mistake in that prediction.  :-[

Not too much for topics happening right now. Even though it ain't new, guess I'll go with Daan's Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore review (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64112.0) with that game releasing today.

For added reference, Daan reviewed the game when it first came out the Wii U here (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/42900/tokyo-mirage-sessions-fe-wii-u-review) and Donald also did a review of the Wii U version here (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/42905/tokyo-mirage-sessions-fe-wii-u-second-opinion) for a second opinion.

Dang... Have this game on Wii U, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.
Sounds like I need to make time sooner than later, given how strong the review impressions are.

Tokyo Mirage is unironically a very good game. I think it suffers from a bad early dungeon, and a lot of the non-story specific sidequests are just dull fetchquests. And I'd wager the setting doesn't do it many favours for most of us. But once the battle system clicks and you start begrudgingly liking some of the characters, despite their anime behaviour tropes, the game really starts ramping up.

Comfortably in my top 10 Wii U releases.

Bit late with the Weekend topic. After getting voted out of Mafia, I then got a cold bringing to an end my almost 2 and half year streak of not getting sick. As such, I've been drifting in and out of sleep with little energy. But enough about me. What you really want is to talk about the Trevorrow Star Wars script differences. Or so it would seem based on how that topic has been heating up in the Movie/TV forum (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=57693.250).

As a reminder, there is still time to join the Safe Words game about to launch soon. Click here (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64050.0) for that.

Although it was posted a couple days ago, I don't really follow Podcast Discussion stuff. That said, I see there is this thread for a retroactive on Rhythm Thief 3DS (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64199.0) which is still one of my favorite games for the 3DS and I think everyone should check out. Best thing Sega released last decade and I wish it got the sequel it wanted. Topic of the day!

Thanks for all the well-wishes everyone. Couldn't get to sleep last night until like 4 AM. But when I did and I woke up after noon, today is the first day I woke up feeling alright. Still suffering through some of the symptoms but I just seem to have a bit more energy and the tightness in my chest seems to have finally loosened a bit. Finally some progress with this virus.

As for today's topic, I think I'm going to go with the Mafia Day 7 Thread (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64222.0). I've had some info revealed to me so I pretty much now who's who and what's what at this point. Thus, I can't comment too much about it but I am very curious to see how things play out today. But don't just take my word for it...

Think I had more enjoyment following than actually being in it. I may start lurking in this forum after this.

Nice thought but if everyone watches and no one participates then there is nothing to watch. Topic of the daaaaayyyyyy.

Again, I don't really follow much of the podcasts here but I have noticed the recent RFN Podcast discussing the top 10 games of the past decade (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64201.0) has been getting a few comments each day as people add their own lists and comment on the choices. (Presumably this is for games on Nintendo systems only but I'm just guessing on that.) So, if you are looking for more of that Best of the Decade type discussion than this may be of interest to you.

I've been waiting and, sure enough, we got one of my favorite topics launched today: The Mafia Game End Thread (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64241.0) where all the players get together and hash out how the game went for them and make their angry declarations of revenge on the players who wronged them to pump us up for next game. If you thought the Dead Thread was starting to look like a Springer talk show the Endgame thread will put that to shame now. Topic. ofthe. Day.

I was already leaning towards making this the Weekend topic yesterday but dragged my feet on it. However, with the recent Kobe Byrant news, I'd say the NBA thread (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=50363.msg964238#new) is definitely going to be the topic for this weekend.

Today's topic goes to Steefosaurus who wants you to try and predict what Nintendo will be announcing/releasing in 2020. Let's do this early today. One of the favorite topics of discussion on this forum has often been sales numbers and figures for Nintendo. Maybe that is because of UncleBob and the six shares of stock he owns in the company. Whatever the reason, the big topic of the day has got to be Nintendo's 2019 Third Quarter Fiscal Results (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64321.0). Although the margins are slim, it is looking like Nintendo will still be around for another year so I guess they aren't doomed just yet.

The trip through the 3DS eshop (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64357.0) continues with a look into the first releases of 2012. Talk about what you've played and what you liked or didn't like. Remind yourself of past games you maybe meant to pick up but forgot about. Keep the 3DS alive in your hearts before Switch kills it some more in sales. Day of the Topic.

Weekend Reading!

Well, the big topic for the weekend is probably the big game. So, you'll probably want to keep up with the action as it unfolds and a winner is declared this weekend for Safe Words 15 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64259.75). Which of the Final Four players will be able to secure victory?

Other Reading

Of course, there is some other sporting event happening at some point this weekend. If you really feel like keeping up with two games then maybe you'll want to make some comments in a little thread about discussin' the NFL (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=34197.1125). But with the Browns not playing anytime soon, is there really anything to discuss?

Although a lot of the discussion has been about the headline, let's give Xander his due and promote his actual thoughts about Paper Mario and what he thinks might happen for the Switch (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64294.0) with that series.

And while I hate to burn through a lot of topics, I did want to throw a spotlight on a recent eShop Switch release: Aviary Attorney: Definitive Edition. (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64317.0) If you're an Ace Attorney fan then the name may have got your attention like it did mine. From the look of it, it might scratch that itch for that style of play. Plus, it got an 8 so it is one of the higher rated titles for games released on the eShop over the past week.

Welp, since griping about the Switch joy-cons still seems to be a thing that gets people posting, I guess I'll give the Joy-Con Graveyard (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64281.0) the prestigious Topic of the Day award. Hopefully, this will get everyone who needs to post about the problematic joysticks to do so now and get it out of their system so that they can finally move on to the Pro Controllers.  8) Then you'll be playing with power.

Mop it up started a trend in the Switch Discussion Thread (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=50737.1200) about listing what your most played games have been on the Switch so far according to one's system. Always interesting to see what other users have enjoyed playing so hopefully more will join in on that discussion. T to the opic of the Day.

Back when I started this Topic of the Day, I mentioned...

I have sometimes noticed on NWR's Discord that there can be an interesting topic for discussion that will arise and get a bit of activity but then can be lost as the conversation and infinite scroll moves on. From time to time, I may pull a topic from there to discuss further here.

And yet, I've never acted on that...... until now!!! Pulled from the NWR Discord, the most important topic of this slow chatting day is not the YIIK ridicule pokepal is trying to engage in there but the fact that the Nintendo GameCube is poised to be the best-selling console of all time (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64413.new#new) thanks to Nintendo's hardware strategy. Now that's a topic worth discussing!

The trade deadline seems to have sparked another flurry of discussion in the NBA Thread (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=50363.2100) so I guess it will take another turn as topic of the day.

While it is not getting as much discussion on the forums as it has on Discord this morning, the Animal Crossing Switch game save situation (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64447.0) has seemed to irk a lot of Nintendo gamers and sparked a lot of complaints. In any case, anyone looking forward to the next Animal Crossing game may want to make sure they are aware of the save situation in order to decide how they want to play the game if their town/island cannot move over to another console. Obviously, the best way to make players aware of this is by making this news........ the topic of the daaaaaaaayyyyyy.

Weekend Reading!

You knew it was coming and my Annual Oscar Thread is here. (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64458.0) Got it started with a long and pointless introduction just like the ceremony (ZING?) and will keep updating over the weekend leading into the big show with my thoughts on the films nominated and my Oscar Predictions. Feel free to chime in with yours as always.

Other topics of interest:

If you are looking for something to play instead of talkin' films then here a few reviews posted for some games recently released on the Switch eShop this week which were positively received by NWR staff which you may have missed reading about.

Kentucky Route Zero (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64400.0) received a 9.5 review.
Kunai (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64416.0) scored a 9 in its review.
And Knights and Bikes (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64415.0) was awarded a score of 8.

Of course, a game is more than just a review score so do try to check out the articles to see what is appealing about those titles and if they might appeal to you also.

As always, you may want to check in and let us know what you are playing (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=41624.1775) or the latest game you've just beat (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=41328.950). (Or maybe even do a Reader Review about a game and possibly have that become a Topic of the Day. :o )

And if none of that interest you then maybe you're getting old and want to let everyone know just how old you are. (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64202.0)

Was thinking of giving nothing the Topic of the Day with such little activity. Even Discord is hardly moving. I guess everyone is still hung over from the Oscars after parties. I've still got a lot of topics I've been creating lately that I want to get back to and post some more in before starting another topic. But, rather than do nothing, I suppose I'll highlight lolmonade's review of Not Tonight (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64477.0) which has garnered some attention by being a post-Brexit game. Since a couple new users on Discord mentioned they joined because of the site's reviews then maybe highlighting more reviews can have an effect with the forums too.  ;)

After some recent successes like Joker, DC is back to fighting box office blues with Birds of Prey and what to do about it. It's got some of our users talking about the film (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=50063.775) also so that can be the Topic of the Day. Although the discussion of it started late yesterday, I'm going with the upcoming NES/SNES Switch Online titles (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64485.0) soon to be added to the service as the big 'ol topicoftheday. Didn't expect these games for the next update, did ya? Since there are no likes or dislikes buttons on the forum (except for the honks), you'll have to leave a post for everyone to know what you think of the news.

I don't know about you but life has been getting kind of hectic of late. Insanolord might have to take over the Topic of the Day for a few days. But can we trust his judgement as to what is truly the TOPIC of the DAY? *insert thinking emoji that the forum software lacks* Personally, I'm not sure what to make today's topic. For whatever reason, Avatar is back in movie review form. (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=28364.6300) But is a ten-year old movie really the most relevant topic ere or should we not be looking at the hip new games now available for download and purchasing (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64501.0) as well as what's on sale? I guess for today's topic, YOU can decide. topic topic topic

With Khush away for the weekend, I thought I’d pick a topic of the day that reminds us of him being a Ducks fan with the discussion of Emilio Estevez returning for the new Mighty Ducks reboot in the Disney+ thread (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=57728.msg965156#msg965156).

Todays topic is the topic of the day thread (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=63978.0) in honor of Khushrenada and Insanolord both forgetting to name a Topic of the Day. I call this Topic-ception.

I didn’t forget, I just hadn’t done it yet. It’s not even 7:00 on the east coast and there hasn’t been much activity today. Anyway, today’s thread is the NBA thread (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=50363.msg965220#msg965220), which has been the topic of the day before but has seen a high amount of posts the last couple days because of the recent NBA All-Star Game.

Thanks Insanolord for stepping in while I was away. Looks like Nintendo's finally getting around to doing the Animal Crossing Direct (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64613.0) everyone's been expecting them to do for weeks. Get ready to watch people move furniture around, catch fish and shake trees for fruit. The excitement is real.

Since there was no Weekend Reading while I was away, I thought I'd use the current forum activity slowdown to highlight a game that came out last week and got a 9.5 review from NWR. That game is Florence and you can read the review here. (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64506.0) Now it can further have its day in the sun as Topic of the Day.

What? No love for my topic of the day choice? I poured my heart and soul into that. So much blood, sweat and tears went into that decision. It's way more creative than making the NBA thread topic of the day for the 18th time.

Couldn't accept it. It was factually incorrect. I didn't forget the thread. I had asked Insanolord to cover for me from Feb. 15-17. Next time get your facts straight and maybe your suggestion will be considered.

Since it was a rare Nintendo Direct day, might as well go with the actual Animal Crossing Switch Direct (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64626.0) as the topic of the day. The review for Two Point Hospital (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64630.0) is one of those rare reviews to hand out such a score. Take that, The Stretchers! Another good one is this Talkback thread on the new mythical Pokémon. (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64707.msg965529#new) Come one and come all to try and outnerd me in Pokémon.

For anyone who doesn't want to deal with me, the Amazon customer service thread has come back from the dead and sparked some discussion. (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=41168.msg965514#msg965514)

Weekend Reading!

It may not have much to do with gaming but I am pretty excited about the return of Better Call Saul. Season 5's first episode airs this Sunday night and AMC has decided to burn through episode two by having it air on Monday the next night. Hopefully there are other users out there who've been following along with this series and will be keeping me company in the Better Call Saul Thread (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64742.0) in the TV/Movie forum as the show plays out.

(Although perhaps the real topic should be how much car accidents suck. One of life's biggest bummers.)

Other topics of interest:

If you are looking for something to play instead of talkin' TV then allow me to mention some games recently released on the Switch eShop this week which were positively received by NWR staff. I already highlighted the 10/10 review for Two Point Hospital yesterday but you might have missed these titles and reviews:

Sega Ages: Puyo Puyo 2 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64629.0) managed to get a review high score of 9.
Vitamin Connection (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64624.0) may be the cure for your boredom based on its 9.0 review.

Meanwhile, the Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Cindered Shadows DLC (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64612.0), Devil May Cry 3 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64627.0), and Double Dragon & Kunio-kun Retro Brawler Bundle (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64686.0) also received high praise with 8.5 reviews while Depixtion (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64619.0) and Darksiders Genesis (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64636.0) were awarded scores of 8.

And if none of that interests you then maybe you can try and figure out just what ThePerm is trying to do or hint at in his Name That Movie Thread. (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=51043.175)

At this point, I think it may be clear I've got a soft spot for the 3DS and will be a lifelong fan of the system. Thus, any thread or topic about it is going to immediately catch my interest and hopefully it will also be of interest to other Nintendo gamers. Therefore, the question on What games made the best use of Streetpass on 3DS? (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64692.0) is absolutely NWR's TOPIC OF THE DAYYYYYYYY.

Do you find it intriguing to go back to an older topic and find out how things have progressed on the matter for discussion since then? I do and that's why I've found the recent postings in the New Year's Gaming Resolution Thread (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=63934.0) to be of interest. Even if you may not have posted any specific gaming resolutions yourself when it first started, you may want to join in by letting other user's in on how your gaming in the new year has been going so far as well.

Apparently, it is Pokemon Day. Since that is one major Nintendo series I'm still out of the loop on, I'm afraid I'm not even sure why today is specifically Pokemon Day. However, it does mean the announcement of a new mythical Pokemon (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64707.0) so I'm guessing that is big news for the 13 or so million players who are into Pokemon. I wanted to do this a lot sooner but I delayed it since there was more I meant to post in Part 1. However, I don't want to delay this forever so the part two in the Best of the 3DS eShop: 2012 Releases (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64743.0) is here. And while there may not be any slam dunk titles listed, there might still be a hidden gem or two someone here has played that they'd like to recommend. I've found this series of reviewing the eShop to be informative and, at the very least, I hope it has been the same for others and maybe encouraged a bit more exploration on a title or two you may have forgotten about or knew existed.

If so, check out the thread and sign on up.

If you are looking for something to play instead of posting on this forum then SHAME ON YOU!! >:(  But I'll still try to help you out by highlighting some games recently released on the Switch eShop this week which were positively received by NWR staff. Games with a pretty positive score this week are:

Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64688.0) which blasted its way to a very respectable score of 9.0.

Managing to pull off a fine score of 8.5 are Bloodroots (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64706.0) and poorly-titled-gibberish-word-salad Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64704.0).

And let's not forget about Rune Factory 4 Special (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64712.0), a series that may be trying to make a comeback and developed a few diehard fans over the years, which managed to get a score of 8.

Of course, a game is more than just a review score so do try to check out the articles to see what is appealing about those titles and if they might appeal to you also. (Especially when the title gives you no idea what the game is about. Isn't that right, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r]?)

I have dozens upon dozens of cold takes on NWR so I don't take pleasure in other people being wrong about things. Still, I'm glad Switch has been successful from a discussion perspective if only because I probably would have left the forums if I had to deal with forum-user Miyamoto incessantly gloating and disrupting whole threads. He hasn't been active in two years so he probably has at least one shame regarding how smug he was being with his Switch takes.

Wait? You're saying that wasn't actually Miyamoto on these forums dunking on the new generation of Nintendo product developers in the company?  :o :o :o

Honestly, I probably wouldn't bump that thread if Miyamoto had ever come back and posted on here about being sorry for taking his prediction so personal and getting hyperbolic about it. Maybe if he'd have also self-mocked himself or something at how wrong a lot of his statements ended up being. Chances are, he'd have learned a lesson and been a bit more humble and open to other opinions aside from his own if he'd stuck around here after. But he never did and he tripled down on his stance so hard that I like the laugh that thread at least provides now compared to when the whole thing was him getting so smug to everyone without having anything to back that attitude up.

In any case, I guess we will move from one badly aged opinion to another that doesn't look likely to age well either and give JusDBerube the attention he seeks with his negative opinion on Breath of the Wild (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64757.0)that he just can't let go of. Despite the pleothora of titles being released on Switch's eShop, I find that I rarely get hyped about most of the games it has to offer. Untitled Goose Game was one game that I was hyped in from its initial announcement. Murder By Numbers is another such title that I've been waiting for since I first saw it announced. The idea of a game mixing Ace Attorney like story and characters with Picross puzzles excited me with the potential that could have. I'm not the only one as Neal also mentions having been hopeful that this game could be a winner in his review. As such, I want to highlight this game and the Murder By Numbers Review (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64775.0) since it is definitely my Topic of the Day. Does the game deliver on the hype I've been feeling for it? You'll have to read the review to find out...

With it being Friday, it is the usual date for another entry in the Best of the 3DS eShop series. With the series not getting the comments and attention that it did during the GB phase, I guess there is little point in trying to keep spacing out the entries for longer discussion so might as well just keep moving it along and getting through the listings in a more regular manner and wrap up the 2012 listings. Congrats Best of the 3DS eShop: 2012 Releases (Part 3) (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64790.0) for being Topic of the Day on a slow day that has seen 24 scattered posts over a 24 hour period.

Weekend Reading!

Although it may not have much action yet, I'm going with ejamer's What Are You Kickstarting? thread (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64809.0) as the headlining Topic of the Day for the weekend. I know kickstarting stuff and Kickstarter in general seems to get a lot of chat on Discord so there's a good chance of carry over here even if it is just people gripping about Kickstarter becoming a corporate tool now.

Other topics of interest:

As always, here's a bit of a round-up on some of the games released for the Switch which received some highly positive scores. The highest rated game for the week, Underhero (http://but here are others that did not get their due earlier this week:

[url=http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64787.0) also was enthusiastically received and nabbed a 9.0.

Meanwhile, Oddmar (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64762.0) and Afterparty (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64791.0) both managed to score a respectable 8.0 from their reviewers.

Of course, a game is more than just a review score so do try to check out the articles to see what is appealing about those titles and if they might appeal to you also. And don't be shy of leaving your own take or thoughts about any of those titles now or in the future.

As always, you may want to check in and let us know what you are playing (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=41624.1775) or the latest game you've just beat (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=41328.950). (Or maybe even do a Reader Review about a game and possibly have that become a Topic of the Day. ;) )

Otherwise, you can always take the plunge and sign-up for the upcoming Metroid Mafia Game (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64750.0). 7 players are in and it would be great to see 9 more as 16 players (or more) often seems to bring about the best games. Or you could always sign-up to try your hand at doing the Topic of the Day (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64744.0) for a week. Pokepal148 will get his chance at controlling the content of the thread for this upcoming week. Well, I guess I will continue my domination of the Nintendo Gaming forum by adding yet another of a thread I've created to the top of the discussions currently happening there. While I try to find 4 more players for my Metroid Mafia game, why not incite more Metroid fever on this forum by Running through the Metroid series (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64872.0) to allow everyone has probably brought up for every new entry. Still, I think talking about Metroid is always a good Topic of the Day.

(And be prepared for personal begging from me to you to be a part of a different type of Metroid game (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64750.0) since Insanolord seems to have lost the ability to post new articles to the NWR Homepage.  :P

Oh shoot! Completely forgot about Topic of the Day.  :-[ You let someone do it for a week and you lose your whole rhythm. I guess it's just been that kind of day. I could have done this hours ago because I knew when it was announced yesterday that today's Indie Direct (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64888.0) would be the Topic of the Daaaaaaay-yo.

I thought it might generate some action on the forums but it all seems to be happening on Discord. With PS5 specs now being released in the wild, techno-talk is through the roof in General Chat. Personally, spec talk doesn't interest me but it might interest someone else (or you may just want to make jokes about it) so I won't let me feelings on specs keep from naming it as the Topic Of The Day. And if you want to see what others are saying about it then you can Join the Official NWR Discord Server today! (https://discord.gg/Hyp4mXm)

I have sometimes noticed on NWR's Discord that there can be an interesting topic for discussion that will arise and get a bit of activity but then can be lost as the conversation and infinite scroll moves on. From time to time, I may pull a topic from there to discuss further here.

It's in the freakin' rules. (https://i.imgur.com/WZkQNMK.gif)

However, if you'd like to create a thread on the forums for discussion on the PS5 specs, I'd be happy to include a link to that in the post instead of just referencing Discord only. :D But I don't want to seem like I'm creating every topic for Discussion here. I'm already taking over the Nintendo Gaming forum from past TotD. (And that has now left the door open for pokepal148 to fill the Funhouse with terrible threads. As I take over one subforum, I lose my grasp on another. It's forum whack-a-mole here.  >:( )

Since it seems to be constantly dominating everybody's conversations and affecting how we currently live, I guess it shouldn't be surprising that COVID-19 is still a hot topic (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64851.25) for forum users. That constant chatter has made it the Topic of the Day again even if might already feel like the topic of the century at this point.

It's here, it's here. Oh lowdy, it's here. Animal Crossing: New Horizons has arrived. Not to be confused with Animal Crossing: New Leaf or New Super Mario Bros. Horizons 2. Millions of gamers are checking out Tom Nook's Pandemic Survival Guide of self-isolating on your own private island and how to craft the necessary tools you'll need to live. If you haven't done so already, you may want to check out Daan's review of the New Horizons (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64871.0) in which he boldly withholds giving it a grade until he can judge the online component. Meanwhile, if you want want to meet up with other Islanders or talk about how your VR life is unfolding, you can do so with this flimsily crafted New Horizons Thread (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64620.0) or on the NWR Discord. The Topic of the 3 twenty twenty twenty.

Weekend Reading!

Didn't forget about Topic of the Day. Just exhibited poor time management skills this weekend and the idea of doing a round-up just seemed harder than usual.  :P My plan was to highlight an older thread from the week: Shaymin's list of games played in Self-Isolation (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64900.0). The COVID-19 talk seems to have no end in sight much like the virus so there are plenty of threads that could be selected in regards to it. However, I thought this topic might be able to generate a bit more interest than it has if others wanted to chime in on their recommendations for any games they might be playing in their own isolation or for others to check out if they are looking for something to play.

Perhaps I'll do a bit of a round up yet and edit that in this thread but I've got a Mafia game to launch as well now so motivation is going to be a big factor on how I feel after that.  ;)

I was hoping this would gain traction after seeing it posted late yesterday and I'm glad to see it is getting some activity today. Nothing like some good old Comfort Food talk (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64911.0) to assist you in what's for dinner while you play videogames indoors to outlast COVID-19. Topic of the Day - It's what's for dinner!

Still no announcement of a Direct?! I think it is getting time to fire Doug Bowser. He's clearly in over his head. Reggie wouldn't let us go this long without news. Reggie knew you had to keep some kind of hype train going for a product even when that product was Wii U. Welp, this wasn't going to be my choice for today's topic but then I don't want to seem like I'm always hoarding this title or self-promoting with it so I'm going to give ejamer another Topic of the Day for his quest to get forum feedback on the Nintendo Virtual Tours. (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64922.0) Let's see if making it the Topic of the Day helps get him the info he's after. Now quit hoarding the Topic of the Day from everyone else. It ain't toilet paper.  >:(

I knew if we put some heat on Doug we'd finally get some action. You're welcome. Normally, I try and link to one singular thread if I can but today's Topic is on the shadow-dropped Mini Direct that happened today and we don't seem to have a singular thread highlighting all the news that came from it today. Instead, I'm just going to post a link to The Talkback Forum (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?board=7.0) and you can scroll through the headlines for info that way and click on the news you want more of. And, of course, there is also the NWR Discord which has also had people chatting away about the various tidbits there. Direct Topic of the Day!

Oh right. Topic of the Day. Shoot. Uhhhhhhhh, let's follow up on the 2K Switch games announcement which seems to have got the most traction post-Direct but has now morphed into a conversation about Switch memory capacity and the physical vs digital debate (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64932.0) in the news of incomplete games on physical cartridges.

Weekend Reading!

Well, most likely I could just do a coin flip to choose between New Horizons and COVID-19 talk as the choice for the actual Topic of the Day based on user comments. But I've always envisioned this thread as highlighting other topics happening that may not be getting as much attention as others as a way of letting users realize other threads that might be of interest or worth checking out instead of the same old, same old. In that regard, I've wanted to mention Kairon's thread about the upcoming PS5 vs XBox Something-or-other-more-Xs console war (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64947.0) that may or may not start this year. Like Kairon, I don't really pay much attention to the competition or what they are doing but there's no denying they have an impact on the industry. So, you may also want to throw in your two cents as to how well you think the next gen is going to go for them.

Other topics of interest:

As always, here's a bit of a round-up on some of the games released for the Switch which received some highly positive scores. Not too much to report this time around as just a couple games managed to score past the 8 mark.

Doom 64 (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/53289/doom-64-switch-review) returned to a Nintendo console to rip and tear up an 8.5 score.

Operencia: The Stolen Sun (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/53287/operencia-the-stolen-sun-switch-review) likewise managed to nab an 8.5 review score.

Perhaps next week will be different after all the surprise announcements and same day releases from the Mini Direct. I know I'm curious to see how games like Shinsekai (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64939.0) and Good Job! (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64936.0) end up faring once review and user feedback is made on them.

(Or maybe even do a Reader Review about a game and possibly have that become a Topic of the Day. ;) )

Otherwise, you can always follow along in the latest Mafia madness. Day 3 has now begun (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64958.0) and with the game still in the early stages, I think this day could go in many different directions yet. And if that doesn't interest you then you could always try your hand at misinforming the masses (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64866.0) like so many others are busying doing in these trying times or maybe help pokepal148 in his goal of promoting country music (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=62416.0) as the most widely viewed thread ever on the forums. Yee-haw!

I patrol Discord regularly and keep up with everything posted there even when the conversation doesn't interest me and that happens A LOT. There's been stuff I wonder why I'm even bothering to read through. Yet, once in awhile, a conversation will happen that I'd like to see continue on or get back to later but with the infinite scroll it makes it hard to do. That's why I like forums since you have that record you can get back to. Like a library. Take a book (topic) off the shelf. Read (post) some of it for a while then put it away and move on to another book. But if you want to go back to the first one later, you can still do so. I've thought about copy and pasting some comments from Discord to then create a thread on here with for Topic of the Day but haven't really followed up too much on that. Mostly, I can't recall seeing anything there in the past while worth doing. Maybe something will come up in the future and those that want to discuss on Discord can do so there and those that want to comment on it in the forums will have the conversation brought to them here to do so.

Jokes aside, I suppose it only fitting to make the Topic of the Day tie into that and link BeautifulShy's Gender and Sexual Minorities Thread (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64971.0) for today's Topic. Although it is April Fools Day, today's topic is no joke. I thought April might make for a good chance to go back to an idea that was used when Topic of the Day was first announced: Community Themed Avatar Months! On that note, as NWR's Best Forum Manager (job title currently pending approval), I've decided to embrace the only game people want to talk about right now and declare April 2020 as Animal Crossing Avatar Month! (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64989.new#new) You can read all about it by clicking the link or visiting the General Chat Forum although I do think the title is pretty self-explanatory as well. Today's topic goes to a subject that's been a big conversation point about the Switch since its second year although it did start a bit during its first year on the market: Ports. The amount of ports for the system has had an effect on my view of the system. Sometimes positive for bring back strong third party support not seen for a Nintendo system since perhaps the SNES (although I could see an argument for the DS on the matter. Sometimes the porting is negative particularly when it comes to Nintendo's offerings as I'm more familiar with them then releases on non-Nintendo consoles. When Neal posted his method to quantify how much porting Nintendo has done (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64994.0) in the past few years, it was a topic I was sold on from the title. I wish I'd thought of it first and done it myself. (So you know that's high praise. ;) ). I think it's absolutely worth checking out and easily deserving of the highly sought after seal of approval that is Topic of the Day!

You know, last week things got hectic with the shadowdrop Mini Direct which is a shame since I wanted to highlight the Sales thread which saw some action last week with the talk of how Switch had surpassed the 3DS in Japan. This week, when sales were posted, there was a little bit of discussion but it got overshadowed by the Port Index topic that was released yesterday. However, with no major topic happening right now, I'm going to give Enner and his long-time work on the Official Sales Thread (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=18481.11425) his due today and promote that Switch domination.

The Mario Spin-off Tournament (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=65070.0) has hit the Final Four and it is a mess. Please vote for Mario Kart: Double Dash as it is the only worthy title left. I don't want to see Thousand Year Door win this. It is been getting much too over-rated in the last decade. It should have been Super Mario RPG that was triumphant against TTYD, I tells ya! So, the importance of voting Double Dash is definitely something worth making a Topic of the Day. Weekend Reading! (Late Edition)  :P

I guess I'll go with the game everyone is still talking about: Super Mario Maker 2 (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=58525.0). It got an update this week that I had contemplated as making topic of the day earlier but went with some other choices instead. However, that update has got some people uploading some new and old creations and sparking a bit of interest in the title again so let's promote it while it is hot.

Other topics of interest

It has been awhile since there was a big weekend reading update. In fact, the shadow-drop Nintendo Mini-Direct had just released a couple days prior to the last big update. As such, I'm going to look back at some games that were released a few weeks back but had some positive reviews to give them a bit more spotlight even if that attention was a bit delayed.

Good Job! (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64966.0), an action puzzler, does a.... good job... at entertaining and received a performance review of 9.

Deep Sky Derelicts: Definitive Edition (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=65011.0), a roguelike in abandoned spaceships, scrounges up an 8.5.

Wunderling (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64974.0) is a non-stop platformer that is able to bump into a score of 8.

Grimvalor (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=65062.0), a Metroidvania-esque platformer battles its way to an 8.

Gunbrick: Reloaded (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=65067.0), a puzzle platformer, also solves the puzzle of how to get a score of 8.

Last time, I mentioned being interested in Shinsekai: Into the Depths (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64967.0) and Good Job! after that Mini Direct. While Good Job! ended up with a very positive review but Shinsekai and the Panzer Dragoon: Remake (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=64970.0) that also was released in that same period ended up getting a 7.5 score which is still decent. I usually highlight the more positive due to the amount of games always coming out and getting reviewed but the first half of April seemed to get a lot of games ending up with scores in the 6 and 5 range with Cooking Mama: Cookstar the worst of the bunch with a score of 4.5. My one regret of not keeping up with Topic of the Day for awhile was highlighting the discussion regarding the behind the scenes drama of that games release.

However, with people staying in, there's probably been a lot more movie and TV watching so you may want to create a topic on a program or film you've seen recently in the Movies & TV Subforum (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?board=54.0).

And if none of that interests you then perhaps you might want to try guessing the Personal Text of the forum users (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=65081.0) here from past and present.

While it may not affect most users here, the fact that there will be some 3DS and Wii U eShop closures in much of Latin America (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=65155.0) should be seen as an early warning to start getting your digital house in order for those systems as the end may be coming for them in other markets at some point as well. That trailer looks hype and as one of the few people who enjoyed Sticker Star, I ain't worried if this is an RPG or not. It just looks like an adventure I want to take in any form. This origami idea? *chef's kiss* Inspired. What a bold, perfect direction for this series. TOPIC OF THE DAY! (Don't call it a comeback.)

Since the topic of the day will never be about soccer, I guess I'll just re-highlight the news of some  more additions to the Switch NES/SNES Online libraries. (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=65256.0) The day of topic!

It occurs to me that I don't think RFN has ever gotten topic of the day. I know almost everyone reading this except Khushrenada already listens to the show so this is largely a formality but the time has come to give the best and/or worst Nintendo podcast on the internet it's due.

And with an episode title like this (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=65270.msg968697#new) now seems like the perfect time to go forward with this.

Extra, extra, read all about it. (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?PHPSESSID=mnvj2vjdfrvgak1imqi9peto16&topic=65256.0)

The fast paced discussion on the Talkback thread for new NES/SNES games on the online service will get you up to speed on Nintendo's latest and greatest retro game releases faster than you can say Virtual Console Mondays. Also make sure to submit your retroactive nominations from the current selection of NES/SNES online to RFN at this email (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/mail/rfn)

Everyone is going crazy for Animal Crossing (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=65271.new#new) and a very generous, humble, and handsome member of our little community has decided to share his luck in potentially nabbing a bunch of rare items. Topic of the every-other-day is continuing strong by following hot on the heels of the beginning of next gen. Do you want the Switch 2 to have 4K? A second SD card slot? Maybe a stylus. (https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=65290.0) Chime in here with all of your reasonable or crazy next gen demands and predictions.
