Title: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie!
Post by: Oldskool on July 26, 2004, 02:02:40 AM
It started filming a few weeks ago and I didn't even know! I was worried because Douglas Adams is no longer there to supervise it, () but then I learned he did alot of the pre-production before he died, so thats ok. As a fan of the books, I am eagerly awaiting this movie. Any other HGTTG fans out there?

I knew it was his last work (okay, it and Salmon of Doubt), so I expected it to happen some time in the future. Took long enough! Now, next I'd like to see a well done Dirk Gently movie, preferrably one not based on any existing book so there's more new story to see!

I was not a huge fan of the books. Terry Pratchett is exponentially better. Not to say that they were bad. But they weren't my favorites, and they would not make a good movie.
I am sort of looking forward to Good Omens, though. Especially with someone like Terry Gilliam on it.

I prefered Adams over Pratchett ever since and Pratchett has been getting worse lately. I mean, the only reason I didn't expect the ending to Monstrous Regiment was because I assumed "Nah, he isn't THAT stupid".

I'll be interested to see how it turns out, I hope it's good. I love the books. Maybe I'll have to check out this Pratchett dude.

The ending to Monstrous Regiment was painfully obvious. But in my opinion, he's a much better storyteller (not to mention a helluva lot funnier) than good ole Douglas Adams.
Plus Douglas Adams is dead. So ha.

What I like about the Hitchhiker is how facts are explained long before they're needed. He won't tell you how flying works and in the next scene let Arthur Dent fly, he'll tell you long before it's needed so the description doesn't spoil anything but the reader knows what's going on when it happens without a need for further explaination. Some things he'll describe afterwards (like the Babelfish), but with e.g. the flying that would be confusing.
