Title: Satoru Iwata is coming to Down Under?
Post by: Uncle Rich AiAi on June 01, 2004, 10:28:24 PM
Someone help me........get me an oxygen mask!
At work today, during my break, I was reading the newspaper my co-worker bought along, and was looking thru the TV/electronics/gaming section and they had an article about Nintendo and what they presented at E3. They, or some other Aussie media interviewed Satoru Iwata and was quoted saying (I don't remember the exact words, sorry) that he is sorry about the situation and poor sales of the GameCube in Australia. He also said he has never been to Australia and plans to visit (didn't say when).
I shocked when I read that. I never thought I see the day when Nintendo's president will visit Australia. Sadly I didn't take the newspaper home with me, and I checked if the article was online, but it isn't. I will keep checking the next few days. The article mentioned other stuff; about portable gaming and next gen., the usual stuff you have already read on other sites.
If he is really coming Down Under, I suggest he brings Reggie along!

I remember once Miyamoto came to New Zealand... wandered around Queesntown or something. N64 sales were actually quite strong here at one point, then our idiot media decided to endorse the rumour that 'Pokemon was comming out on Playstation'. Bastards.
Bloody hell, NAL are going to have to polish their nobs if they're to impress Iwata. From what I can gather, it's not unlikely that the next generation won't be released in Australia... I certinally don't expect it to be released here. We have a small, yet instensly loyal market (many of whom are employed in retail, I might add), and a distributer pissed off at the debt it rolled up at the end of the 64 days. The strange thing is that most people who buy consoles here aren't actually gamers, and are easy swayed into buying crappy products (the XBox is outseling the PS2) by worse advertising (DOA Beach Volleyball onyone?)
Reggie really needs to start kicking some ass down here.

I hope he gives NAL a massive bitch slap for wasting all the money they got given. Seriously, they went to all the trouble of the special Mario Golf thing, THEN NEVER ADVERTISED IT. Or the Zelda disc bundle. Or anything. Why have they hidden copies of 1080 in their bums for half a year?
Also, I hope Reggie comes along.

Reggie would arrive not unlike the pillar of fire from the Ten Commandments.

Quote IWATA ON AUSTRALIA
Nintendo chief Satoru Iwata has never been to Australia.
He plans to change that this year, but looking at kangaroos and cuddling koalas will be the last thing on his mind.
While holding its own in the cut-throat global video games market, Nintendo's GameCube console is running a very poor third Down Under, behind Xbox and PS2.
Iwata wants to know why.
"First of all, I am most sorry that the GameCube’s performance is bad in Australia, among any area in the world," he says. “On the other hand, I must confess that I’ve never been particularly fond of Australians to begin with. Please forgive me.”

MUST. SHAKE. FIST. AT. IWATA. *does*
Yes, NAL needs a kick in the pants (preferrably front), and perhaps some sword-swinging shenanigans from Miyamoto.

Sorry, it's my fault...I've been threatening to give him spankings if he didn't come on, and he's been liking it...
