Yeah, I saw this too. They're talking about it on the Penny Arcade... it looks... actually nothing like I was expecting. I was thinking the screens were going to be widescreen and near seamlessly connected to each other. I hope the sound is stereo or at least of a better quality than the GBA. Wonder what games will be shown at E3? (Apparently Mario Kart by the screenshot on the system) ^-^

Edit: yipes! looks like my avatar is dead.

Why is it running Mario Kart: Double Dash?

Where's the Nintendo logo text thingy?

Why is it such a low resolution image, if they got it from Nintendo? And why a render?

The Nintendo DS — short for dual-screen — will be unveiled Tuesday morning at the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo game industry gathering.

Plus, it doesn't even say anywhere in the article that that is the real DS in the picture, and it says that the DS will be unvieled on Tuesday, they wouldn't say that if they had already unveiled it (which they haven't, because the picture is fake).

Why is it so ugly? Nintendo wouldn't disappoint me like this... or would they? =\

I'll believe it's real when i see it in Shigeru Miyamotos hands.

Yeah, too much unecessary space. The screens are waaay too small in comparison to the rest of the device, especially considering they are supposed to be larger than the GBA's screen. That has to be a monstrous d-pad if those thingies are really 3.5" across.
The general design is what I'd expect it to look like, with proper indentions the top part could protect an analog stick (not that I claim it has one, just an idea for GBN).

Gameboy??? more like XBoyDS... am i rite?!11/

In all seriousness though, i was hoping for a collaboration with another company like HP and having one screen double as an actual PDA... wishful thinking i know, but it would definitely help distinguish it from the SP (and jack up the price to one million dollars)

Ok, that picture is a concept art posted on that site on the 03-05-04. USAToday just took it from there. Unless they've had the real picture there for the last week, it's fake.

EDIT: Or unless they went back and edited the image into the previous article.

I would tend to think its a fake, but its not a bad looking fake and I wouldn't be disappointed if it was real.

The thing that really threw me on it was those indents on either side of the top screen (and also on the bottom). I have an unfoldable keyboard that has those identical indents on it and is the same color with the same black outline. Seems like it would've been easy to take an image of it and photoshop a screen on it.

I can read that. Well, almost, but if you read Dutch out loud it sounds almost like German and the words become understandable.

I think the icon is a topic image (i.e. their system automatically adds it to any DS-related story), they probablys added it today. If you click on the older stories, the icon appears as well. Kind of like the Borg Gates icon for Microsoft related stuff or the Monty Python foot for humorous stories on Slashdot.
