Title: Call of Duty
Post by: Oldskool on May 09, 2004, 09:18:24 AM
Anyone play this? It's excellent.

For those who have played it, my favirote single-player mission is Pavlov, while my favirote multiplayer map is Stalingrad. I beat the SP game on the hardened difficulty setting yesterday.

For those who haven't played, line up soldiers!

Indeed I have, but the multi is only getting worse.  Each patch has made more and more problems, getting tired of it.

However, there will be two expansions due out, so more single player fun.

Call of Duty is great, judging from the demo, and I am going to get it.

On Multi, I usually try to find rifle-only maps. Those PPSh addicted noobies are darn annoying.

i really dug the single player game.  however, the game didn't care for my graphics card (radeon 9600 xt) so it would freeze at random times.  i usually couldn't play for ten minutes without my entire system freezing.  i still loved every second of the game (save for the american commando mission), but it was very annoying.  i never even bothered to play the multiplayer.  sadly, i'll probably skip the newly announced expansion pack unless the issue with my graphics card is resolved.

CoD was one of these rare FPS that I enjoyed (I find most FPS to be boring).  I loved the opening Stalingrad level!

Yeah, trying to get through the beach massacre. A couple hundred soviet soldiers, only a third with weapons... vs ... a dozen German machine guns.

I know they ripped the opening scenes from the Russian mission from "Enemy at the Gates" (right down to the main character getting the ammo instead of the gun) but its still a heap of fun. Online is good - Headquarters is a variation on the classic "King of the Hill" game, but Team Deathmatch is my favourite mode still.

To be the historian here, only 1/10 of the 13th Guards Division (which your part of in the game) didn't recieve weapons before landing at the west bank of the Volga, which is still a pretty high number. The lack of supplies had more to do with the rush to send reinforcements to Stalingrad, rather than a just plain lack of weapons. Those NKVD commisar bastards were just as bad in the actual battle though. Another thing many forget is that the battle wasen't won in the end by the street fighting, but by Operation Uranus, the encirclement of the Germans outside Stalingrad. Infact, very little reinforcements were sent to Stalingrad after the first big rush. Most of it went to the forces that were to encircle the German Sixth Army.
