Title: How to access Gamecube options?
Post by: gizban on May 09, 2004, 07:05:03 AM
I know that if you turn on the gamecube without a disk in it, it goes to the options where you can delete stuff off your memory cards. What I want to know is, is there a way to go to these options without having to turn on the gamecube without a disk? Sometimes when I turn on the gamecube with a disk inside, it goes to these options. Do you have hold certain buttons in order to do this?

Hold A while the cube is booting up. Pressing Z also makes monkey noises and laugter.

I think Nintendo made a really stupid decision with the menu, if you press A too late the intro will complete before you are in the menu and then you have to press reset...

This is slightly off of the topic, but I hate consoles having "boot" screens. It used to be all you had to wait for was the licensing screens, but now, you have this sequence that cannot be skipped. When I got my Playstation, the reset button gave me dread since I knew it would actually takes less time to just lose, rather than waiting for the boot up sequence, and then waiting for the load times. I noticed some GameCube games let you reset, and just return you to the game's start, so you don't have to wait for the screen, but I still don't like the idea of a boot screen. I do know that the Game Boy has always had a Game Boy screen at the beginning, but I've always been a bigger fan of Nintendo's home consoles.(Which could change.)

It's a trademark issue, the system checks for a logo on the disk to ensure it's a licensed disk and if you duplicate the logo you can be sued for trademark infringement. In theory, that is, since a judge ruled that you can infringe trademarks if it's required for the system to operate. Many homebrew DC games show a "the previous screen was a lie" screen after the "licensed by Sega" screen.

I don't feel like checking, but I think you need to either have for controllers pressing Z at boot or be plugged into controlelr oprt four and press Z......of course, I could be wrong.

Holding Z on controller-1 is just fine.

1 controller holding Z gets you the ahem...babyish noises. Having 4 controllers holding Z gets you the guy yelling startup.
