Well it seems that FR has left the bizarro, non-proportional character designs behind...Oh well, I hope they keep Virus for multiplayer... ^_^

They have hands holding the guns now?
Expect less characters.

That is awsome. Did anyone else notice the barrel in on of the screenshots. Its looks like you could pick it up and toss it at the enemy. This game looks alot more serious. The charecters, the scenery ...everything.
Being an owner of TS and TS2 I cant wait.

my god thats beautiful compared to TS2, i love it. I really hope they manage to keep the cube version online like the rumors are saying. I'm a gigantic fan of TS2, and I know I'm going to love this one.

What is this game? I've never heard of it. If this is Timesplitters 3, or at least was, then I wouldn't get your hopes up for it being too good since Free Radical isn't making it, so I've heard. :\

Wow that looks great! =o
I also love TS2, and i'm really looking forward to this one.
Mouse: Yeah, it's TS3... and i'm pretty sure Free Radical are making it, only they have a different publisher now (i think). Where did you hear otherwise?

Mousie has just confused me x 100...Free Radical is developing, EA is publishing...

And BECAUSE EA is now publishing, that's probably why TS3 is NO LONGER listed at http://www.freeradicaldesign.com. EA is probably taking over the game's media/publicity. TS3 and Second Sight were announced at the same time. Second Sight has since, I think, been acquired by Codemasters.

I don't necessarily think that there would have to be less characters if they modeled the hands for 1 player/co-op mode.
If they removed the hands, and just had floating guns like before, for multiplayer, you could still have the same gi-hugic number of characters. I have seen this done many times before, but can't think of a game that employs it. Bond maybe? (I didn't ever play it much)

Godawful. There the theme for TS.
The charecters show us how the game is more of a relaxed/fast paced shooter instead of the Slower yet more serious look of Bond or Perferct Dark.

"The charecters show us how the game is more of a relaxed/fast paced shooter instead of the Slower yet more serious look of Bond or Perferct Dark."
relaxed/fast paced???
I always just saw the character designs as the work of some whacked out developer at Free Radical, I never assumed they were to indicate that it is more relaxed. Each artist has his own design/take on how he sees and depicts things, and thank god thats the case so everything doesnt look the same.
but I always just plain hated the character designs for TS, even though TS2 is one of my favorite GC games, I guess the moral is it's good to take in a game as a whole and not put it off because you don't like one thing about it.

I know EA is publishing Free Radical's games now, but I heard somewhere that Free Radical wasn't making Timesplitters 3 and were instead focusing on Second Sight. Maybe I'm thinking of Criterion and Burnout 3. o_O
Sorry!

Second Sight seems to have the same sorta charecter design as TS. So I guess someone in Free Radical really likes these designs.

Good ol' EA. At least TS3 on GameCube will actually be avaliable to buy in SHOPS, unlike TS2, where you had to travel to the MOON. >_>
It looks like a Medal of Honor game, but.. with like, weapons that are fun to use.

Woah, since when was Criterion not makeing Burnout 3. I was under the impression that both games were being developed by the same developers of their preceding games. I thought that the only thins different was that EA became both games publishers.

Hopefully the game wont keep this ww2 look and style. The last thing we need is another ww2 rehash game. As long as they throw in some crazy weapons and try not to make it a "realistic" shooter I'm happy.
These screens are impressive and nice, but far from blowing me away.
EDIT: Burnout 3 and TimeSplitters 3 are still being developed by the original people. Where the hell did you get the idea that they wernt? The only different thing is EA are now publishing both. Publishing is different from Developing.

I'm not to worried about the WWII theme, considering it is a time travle game. (BTW most of those screens look more like Pre WWII or WWI anyway) The only thing that bothers me is that everyone still has "mittin" hands.

Well, when compared to the previous two Time Splitters games... I have to say that I'm now actually interested with the third. I actually happen to like the WWI/WWII theme to the game. Gives it a much different atmosphere... not to mention that the scenery actually looks a lot better this time round.
Hopefully the storyline/plot is actually going to be attractive this time, unlike the previous installment. Collecting crystals to save the universe wasn't really something that caught my attention... but I've got a feeling that the plot will actually thicken in this game.

I hate not being able to let this go, but did you just call Perfect Dark a slow shooter? Are you high or have you never played the game? That is the fastest shooter period. Or maybe you don't know how to strafe.
Title: RE: First Timespliter: Future Perfects-----screens
Post by: Syl on May 02, 2004, 09:33:05 AM
perfect dark is much much slower compared to TS2.
the fact that its framerate is about 5 frames per second doesn't help =/
(I love Perfect Dark, it was just ahead of its time)

Um dude, if you read the posts before mine, you'd know I wasn't the one who made that comment, I was responding to it. I bought PD the day it came out... and no it's not the fastest shooter period.

Although I admit I havent played PD too much but from what I played it wasnt very fast.
The framerate was the worst I have ever seen ( ALMOST ). Although on its own the game might be fast, but compared to TS series its as slow as a snail ( or turtle ).
Title: RE: First Timespliter: Future Perfects-----screens
Post by: Bill Aurion on May 02, 2004, 11:42:53 AM
Well comparing two titles from two different gens in terms of speed is a no-no...
Perfect Dark was pretty fast for it's time, but the speed is noticable slow now that most games have a smooth and steady framerate...

Post by: odifiend on May 02, 2004, 11:54:05 AM
Joeamis, sorry for the confusion, using the quote system really helps take care of that though. I'll admit that when it got those frame rate hiccups, PD could slow down a lot. If you compare a TS2 match and and PD match brimming with simulants, TS2 will win. When playing with human characters only, I remember PD being a lot faster than TS2, but that could possibly be due to what Bill has said- that PD was fast for its time so my memory could be playing tricks. Also I'd like to point out that the shift to the dual stick controllers can make a game appear fast because you can turn that much more quickly. When I first played TS2, I changed the controllers to play more like PD. That could possibly have been my problem.

It's alright, yea i should've quoted it, I must admit I decided not to because alot of responses lately from people have done it the way I did in that post.
It's true PD was fast for it's time, and oddly I rarely ever encountered slowdown with it.

Timesplitter 1 was a launch title given so it may not be impressive, I never played the first one but from what I've heard it was really designed with the emphasis being multiplayer and thus not a great single quest, the same can be said for TS2 to a lesser degree. but to answer your question, TS3 from what I've heard is supposed to grace all 3 home consoles.

I personally loved the character designes in TS2. It was a refreshing artistic flare one what *could* have been another cookie cutter first person shooter.

This guy is the funniest dude ever. Take a look at his Signiture. Thnx for the avater Bull. LOL
Anyway TS 1 was made in 8 months. Sony came up to FR and told them they want a launch title ...in 8 months time TS was made.
TS2 was made to let FR put in what they wanted in TS 1.
Trust me I know ...I am a MAJOR TS fan of the series ( Which is best on PS2 ).

I think the graphics look a lot better, but I will miss the more cartoony characters of the previous games. To me, they made TS2 stand out from the other shooters, and it also gave it a certain Nintendo flavour. There are plenty of realistic first person shooters and military simulations out there right now, I want something a bit crazier and more fantasy based.

I'd have to agree with that, only because the PS2 controller is superior to the craptastic GCN controller when it comes to FPS. The c-stick makes me cry.

The main problem is that its hard to turn and shoot at the same time. If you can get past that then the GCN version is superior ( the gfx and sound ).
