Title: Big Nintendo Announcement
Post by: Mario on April 30, 2004, 10:18:28 PM
Matt from IGN has hinted at a big announcement from Nintendo that isn't the DS. Here's why he's excited about E3, taken from a post on the IGN boards.
Quote

Pikmin 2, which rocks. Metroid Prime 2, which will own. The awesome Resident Evil 4. The amazing Paper Mario 2. Zelda, which shall dominate. Not to mention about half a dozen other major works from third-parties like Namco and Electronic Arts. And don't get me started on DS and all of the games; that just makes me happy.

But most of all the surprise, which will rocketh hard and please every Nintendo fan out there.

Now, of course, you must speculate. Let this thread flame on like none other, let the replies continue until the posts no longer make any sense. I have faith in you all.

Matt

What could it be?

I figure the surprise is a game.  It seems like the most realistic option.  Either it's a revival of an old franchise or it's some new game that Matt has seen and is very impressed by.

I'm also open to the possibility of this surprise having to do with Silicon Knights and the odd secretive nature of their departure.  Though I don't know if that's something that would please us.

What would really rock is if this ties in with Sega's big E3 announcement.

"will rocketh hard"

I guess this "surprise" is to make up for the "no surprise" dilemma from last year's E3.

I think an NES-themed GameCube unit with rocketh and please me hard.

Ninty's really set to blow us away at E3...I have my blast gear ready, Nintendo, so fire away! ^_^

Just over a week to go!

Oh yeah, something from one of the staffers at Nintendo Power...

"Greg(NOA staffer) said something about how Nintendo had finally begun to listen to people, and would have a big event this year, besides the DS. He said it would change their image."

Interesting, to say the least...

That is interesting. I am going to forget I read this hint, so I will not speculate endlessly about what the surprise shall be, or else I will be disappointed. This E3 will be great, and unlike last year, where pretty much all of the games were announced, and Geist was the only surprise, the DS alone and the N5 details will be pretty interesting.

Rocketh hard?

OK, it has something to do with a rock. Who says "rock hard" anymore?

The only things I could think of that would change Nintendo's image would be: online play, realistic Zelda, or GTA. There are more things, but I think those are the biggest ones.  Edit: Matt was also sure Squaresoft had more GameCube games coming. A traditional Final Fantasy would help change their image as well.

I'm going to assume there are no surprises, because I'm happy enough with the lineup as it is.

Remember last E3?

Yeah, exactly.

"I think an NES-themed GameCube unit with rocketh and please me hard."

Why?  Don't you already have a Cube?  I don't know about you but I would pretty disappointed if that was all it turned out to be.  I have a Gamecube so any new colours or themes don't matter to me at all.

ditto

I suggest we all pretend like E3 does not exist,
so when it does(nt) happen it's reason for
celebration.

(I remember the first time I read
a magazine article about E3 and
it made me oh so happy)

I sorta believe that its got something to do with a franchise.

Because no 1 game ( except Too Human ) can change Nintendos image.

Maybe they got exclusive rights on a major franchise like MGS or Final Fantasy.

But then again it could be a GTP ( Grand Theft Pokemon ) where the point of the game is to ...STEAL POKEMON so you create a bad world for the kids. They would do this so that the kids cry, when kids cry they create a new type of electricity known as ricity. With all the Pokemon gone BBPC ( Bad Bad People Company ) would become rich because they own all the ricity.

Not a bad idea eh ?

BLOL, yeah, especially when Sony has a huge marketshare in Square.

I have a gut feeling the announcement Matt is on about is to do with a medium-sized or large developer. But who? I'm not gonna get excited yet, I'll just wait, because I really hate the hype machine.

Whatever it is don't get your hopes up for anything on this board. Nintendo has been known to suprise us I mean look at the DS. I had never even heard of a dual screen handheld mentioned anywhere. So I'm not gonna assume that there even is a suprise right now.

Sonys shares went down with the Enix merger, but i dont know by how much. I agree i dont really want FF... Chrono Trigger intead

I think its pretty obvious from what Matt said, how Nintendo power put it, and Billeh's e3 predictions, that this is finally going to be Nintendo's online plan.  I also think the DS will play a big role in the online scheme.

The big splash this year will be Sega announcing a partnership with Nintendo.  Sega will put forth its online expertise for the GC, making a full blown online experience like their own Dreamcast.  They will announce all of the ESPN Sega sports will be online, only for GC.  And last but not least, they will announce their intentions of re-entering the console biz, in a collaberation with Nintendo.

And a game thats only shown in video form will win game of E3.

Well that is intersting, isn't it?

Honestly though I would be more excited if the announcement involved Silicon Knights or Sega.

Seriouslly, Nintendo and Sega going in together on the next console would just . . . Oh lord, words can not express!! Of course I am not expecting anything of the sort. But oh, one can dream! It would be SO perfect!

Two former rivals join forces, having been faced by new, giant, corporate foes! It seems kinda plausible. . . But I think that as companies the two of them (Nintendo especially) are too proud. . . but hey, if ever it was time for a crazy development. . .
Title: RE: Big Nintendo Announcement
Post by: Mario on May 07, 2004, 08:21:16 PM
It could also be Silicon Knights related.
Quote

"IGN or someone violated an NDA. Someone leaked the surprise a month ago, and it wasn't supposed to happen. Thus, when "Silicon Knights Title" was added to the Big E3 list, the surprise was out. What better way to cover it then to announce that your company is no longer making games for Nintendo? Seeing that announcement come the day after IGN added "Silicon Knights Title" to their E3 lineup is suspicious as all hell.

That's why Matt broke the story. Cause IGN ****ed up, end of story."

Quote

" OK peeps I posted this in a few other threads so hear me out for a sec. I think I've solved this F'er...

Zephyr64 just posted this thread asking Matt what 2 titles he was looking forward to at E3

Here is Matt's response:
Hmm. Tough question. Metroid Prime 2 and Resident Evil 4 are certainly up there. There's another something I'm just as excited about, as you know. I think these titles round out my top slots and I'm not sure which order they'll go in just yet. - Matt IGN

Now Check Matts Wishlist

He just so happens to have "Too Human" round out the top 3 - the title has probably just been renamed to something like "2 Human" ...also it looks as if he just updated his list - See the new Star Fox 2 info!
Now us board freaks know the following info from the last couple of days:

- Matt posted a pic of Asteroids (a space game) - 2 Human is space game.

- Matts quote: "This is the rare case that the skeptics are right"

And the other clues, such as the lack of any SK or Nintendo press release or good reason for them to leave.

Denis D. has always said the fans are going to be much harder to trick next time. Not to mention all the weird 3:33 news posting stuff.

It all adds up... The suprise is "2 HUMAN"!

"Many Are Telling U Real Excitement, Ze Excitement Loves De Attention."

Let's see.  MAT = Matt.  UR = you are.  EZ = easy.  ELDA = elder.  So we get "Matt you are easy elder."  Well that's technically a sentence but what does it mean?  Damn his riddles!

Mario: Yeah I've been reading up as well. . . The clues are certainly there. . .

If we are going to see Too Human at this E3 I will very likely literally jump with excitement. I'm not holding my breath though. . . Well maybe a little bit.

As a side-note, I'm intruiged by the NSpace title, "Hope".

i love these conspiracy theories, especially with IGN.  Keep it coming Mario!
It would be so great financially besides all the obvious reason that if Sega and Nintendo made a console together, because they could sell it at an even lower price than it's cost because they're each taking less loss per unit.
Title: RE:Big Nintendo Announcement

I doubt its Too Human or 2 Human or whatever... Leaking it on the E3 list was too insignificant, to have to cover it up with a news on the level of SK leaving Nintendo. A new Zelda seems much more likely.
Title: RE: Big Nintendo Announcement
Post by: Gamecubivore on May 08, 2004, 08:15:23 AM
?!?!

I'm guessing you don't know much about Too Human? Too Human is a hugely anticipated game that has been in the making for something like 10 years now. Many gamers have had it at the top of their most wanted list for years.

But I do think a Zelda game is more likely. I think we have another E3 to go before we see Too Human. . . (but I am a lil' hopeful)

This may seem stupid, but you saw it at IGN? It has been spreading like wildfire on the internet, and I wasn't sure if someone made it up. I wish someone had some proof, like a screen-capture. It would be too easy to say, "this is what Matt posted, but it was deleted!"
Title: RE:Big Nintendo Announcement
Post by: Urkel on May 08, 2004, 08:31:45 PM
There's no reason why the game can't be both a Zelda game and an SK game. Remember, not too long ago Dyack made a comment about how he'd like to make a realistic, mature Zelda game.

I just dismissed it as nothing at the time, because EVERY time Dyack mentions a game, everybody assumes that he's hinting he's actually making that game.

"Oh! Denis said he likes Kid Icarus! Oh no! Nintendo is forcing him to make Kid Icarus! I hates you Nintendos!!!111one"

I wonder just what exactly they mean by "Mature" Zelda. Does that just mean it's not going to be cel shaded... or does that mean it will have a deep storyline, some blood, and Link running over wenches with his horse?
