Now, thats pretty impressive crap. The developer of that game said it is better polygon for polygon than the ps2.....I wouldn't believe it if they didn't have those screen shots... Here's hoping the DS will have similar power, otherwise you know the casuals will jump on board.

Being better than the PS2 doesn't have to mean more powerful. It probably means even a mortal can develop for it. The PS2 is built in a way that noone can fully take advantage of it (according to Sony only ONE game fully utilizes the system).

And what game would that be? GT4?

Now I REALLY hope the PSP doesn't get popular, and not because I don't like Sony but because it will mean the death of 2D gaming! Up until now developers had been forced into seeing the virtue of 2D games since that's all the Gameboy could really do. The art of 2D games is quickly being lost now that the third dimension is here, because every developer thinks they have to make their game 3D.
Here's to hoping the PSP crashs and burns its first week of release!

It looks about like an endrun N64 game. Not PS2 IMO. That developer interview reeked of PR Bull too. It was all praise and no cons. If thats the case the PS2 is dead then.

For a portable title that looks pretty sweet. Okay now I'm worried about 2D gaming dying out too. Too bad developers and dipsh!t casual gamers don't realize that 2D and 3D games can co-exist since they're so different. This doesn't ensure PSP success though since we don't know the price or battery life which are imporant factors in portable console success. We also haven't seen the DS yet. For all we know it has better graphics.
How much you want to bet that Death Jr. is either never released or never really amounts to anything. Remember Malice for the Xbox?
Now the fish game. THAT'S going to be a killer app.

If that game can run for more than 2 hours on a PSP battery I will be duely impressed. Excuse me for not being excited until then.

Alright, I just watched the video and I'm even more impressed. The game looks very blah, but if that was released on the ps2 no one would bat an eye at the quality. Its better than n64 graphics, and if you don't believe me, throw in mario 64 or smash bros and really see how it used to be. I was shocked when I did it recently. Here's hoping the DS will have a similar effect on me when I see it.

I remember reading on a site that Sony upped the PSP battery life to around 10 hours. My memory is foggy though...

Quote Charla compared the ease of development to experience with the GameCube, saying that Backbone had its first PSP game up and running within two man-weeks, and a PS2 project ported over to the PSP within four.
That was the producer of this upcoming game. Looks n64ish right now to me, but still, that's on a portable! Unless they're a bunch of stinkin' liars, now is the perfect time to get...somewhat alarmed.

It's said to be on the level of the PSX or N64 based on the screenshots... (can't compare it myself, never owned one of those) The DS is supposed to be a bit more powerful than the N64, based on the specs and dev talk... Seems like an even match to me.

Game Gear, part 2.
Although Sony really know how to hype crap beyond belief. Only MS is better at it.

Didn't you hear? Nintendo sold its number-1 selling zelda ($31d4) liscence to sony so it could team up with microsoft for the next-gen GC/XBOX hybrid which will be named either X-Cube or GameBox, but is code-named the Awesome Incredible Dual System (AIDS) for now.
Honestly, I sometimes can't even comprehend how behind the times some of you guys are.

Sorry, I haven't read EGM for awhile...
But will it have connectivity with the Hyper Interactive Video Entertainment System? Or the Game Oriented Nintendo Off Road Racing Hypnotic Entertainment Ab-flexer?
If not, count me out.

Actually the PSP is stated to be a mini-PS2 minus lower resolution. It's kinda like the GBA vrs SNES.
What's most important is how realiable the system is--that's my biggest concern.

Definatly watching this system now. Frankly, I want it to do well, would be nice for Nintendo to have some competition. However, I also am fearing the death of 2d gaming. Thank god for my pre-3d systems...

Memory cards for a portable is a big no no. why would we need to lug arround the unit games and memory cards instead when we could carry arround a GBA, SP or the DS and just the carts we want. I guess sony is in bizzaro land.

You're going need some sort of save game system--the system is using Mini-DVD's unlike the GBA Carts.
And once the card is inserted you're not going have to carry multiple ones anyhow or games for that matter. I never carry anything but the GBA with a game.

Death Jr. looks like some generic platformer. How many games has it where the little mascot character carries some giant firearm and kills people. I think the only reason Crash was ever popular is because he was in 3D, whereas at the time, Mario and Sonic were stuck in isometric planes with unfamiliar gameplay added (Mario RPG, Sonic 3D Blast etc.) This time, the stakes are different, Death Jr is a 3D platform on a handheld. Suprisingly, the GBA beat the PSP with a 3D Platformer. I forgot the name of one, but I-Ninja GBA (If anybody saw it yet) is a 3D platformer with 2D sprites and polygonal levels (Think of Sonic X-Treme)
Theres some screenshots of it in the latest Nintendo Power, along with a few other Namco games gone GBA.
Also, the public's views on gaming have changed. People like cheap stuff, the GBA is cheap, bu the PSP is far from it, it'll probably go the life of the N Gage...
