Title: What the Heck
Post by: Perfect Cell on March 17, 2004, 12:01:04 PM
Quote In the US the GameCube is a kiddy platform so it might be difficult for a title like Killer 7, which is appealing to mature players, to succeed on that platform alone
sheesh, how is the Gamecube going to get any respect if the Developers dont respect it?

I bet thats just a cover up excuse for the real reason, no-one would be that stupid. Killer 7 will sell whether its a good game or not, Metroid Prime is "mature", and it sold over a million copies in the US alone, and half the people who buy M rated games are little kids trying to be cool anyway.
If Killer 7 is crap then it might do pretty decently on PS2 though.
Quote Of course, if more mature US customers purchase the GameCube version then we might have to just concentrate on GameCube and forget about the PlayStation 2. But that's not going to happen.
Ugh. I hate this guy.

"Some of the guys really like dung beetles."
HUH?
As for the "kiddy" comment well if this guy is going out and BASHING the userbase of the console he's making the game for he's a f*cking moron. That's on par with Nokia dissing GBA owners. If I was the head of Capcom I would rake him over the coals for saying something so stupid.

Eh, both original Resident Evil games have sold over a million copies, so I don't think this will really affect sales of mature games once they're on the console, and Capcom seems to have no qualms about it. Also, is that quote from Koboyashi? there's a quote from the RE4 interview that contradicts yours.

SCEA rejected Killer 7 for a U.S. release, sooooooo does that make it a kiddy game? *shrugs shoulders*

I'm really hoping that 'kiddy' quote is a bad translation. 'Tis disgusting.

"Oh yeah, we were forced to make this game for GameCube or something, it's really good, but no GameCube owner will give it any respect. They're all little babies. So you know, we're also releasing it on PS2, because we know a bunch of mainstream gamers will enjoy our 'violent' storybook"
"Oops, I've just pissed off all the potentional fans" SALES = 0

*offically pissed off at capcom*
Sometimes I think its not the GC lineup that makes it "kiddy" but all the ignorant mouths flapping

Anyone pissed at Capcom needs tobe quiet before we lose another great 3rd party
Seriously there is no other 3rd party that has given the GCN as many good games as they have.

So, the PS2 is getting a late port, right? With the game being developed for the Cube primarily and needing a shader/poly reduction afterwards, right? I have serious doubts it will sell on the PS2 (maybe one or two units more than on the cube). It won't sell on the Cube, either, but at least it has the bonus of temporary exclusivity.
The way that interview sounds the translation isn't that exact. I mean, there are still nonsense phrases in there. "We will."...

If the Cube is a "kiddy platform" in the US, then what is it in the rest of the world?

Quote Once again, I say, WHO THE HELL CARES
A kiddy appearance means no mature games. No mature games means no mature gamers. No mature gamers means no mature games. It's a self perpetuating loop that will never solve itself. I think we have everyright to be pissed off that someone apparently has such a misguided view of the Gamecube audience, besides the fact that it's extremely offensive.

"No mature games means no mature gamers."
Actually, I see more immature gamers playing "mature" games... =P

3rd parties have a bitch of a time on the cube because of all the superior 1st and 2nd party titles. This comment is probably just a cop out for what he really means to say, which is:
"Gamecube owners have higher standards because there are so many high quality exclusive titles available. Since our 3rd party title is good, but not great, it might be difficult to sell it well on this platform alone."

You knew what I meant. I didn't want to use the phrase myself, but it's easier than saying people who like mature games, and then you come up with the opposition that most "mature" games are in fact very immature. So that's what I said that.

That's why you put the word mature in quotation marks... ^_^

What I find really weird about that comment is that, I previously read the interview about Resident Evil 4 on ign and it was the same guy. He seemed confident RE4 will do fine. But maybe you guys are missing something. He does say the GCN is kiddie in the US as opposed to Japan. Maybe he does think there is a huge difference in the markets.
"As for the "kiddy" comment well if this guy is going out and BASHING the userbase of the console he's making the game for he's a f*cking moron." He's working on RE 4. He could piss on a GCN in public and I'd still love him.

That's exactly what I was thinking- in the RE4 interview he did seem very confident the game would sell very well. In addition, he seems to have no qualms about releasing two games that will certainly push the M rating on the Gamecube. I'm guessing that IGN simply left out a word when transcribing the interview. In which case it should looke more like this:
Quote In the US the GameCube is perceived as a kiddy platform so it might be difficult for a title like Killer 7, which is appealing to mature players, to succeed on that platform alone
Title: RE: What the Heck

Not to mention the fact that he makes it clear that RE4 is completely GC exclusive, even though he could have said that he would like it on other consoles if he felt that way...
Oh, and one other thing..."I" BEFORE "E" EXCEPT AFTER "C"
