Title: Another Rumor: new FF for gamecube
Post by: seven_chaos on March 17, 2004, 09:40:21 AM
So today, Nintendojo reported that the officiall UK Nintendo magazine stated that Square was developing a new Final Fantasy for the gamecube. But, this game will contain story elements from FF VII, VIII, IX. Thats pretty insane. The game is apparently going to be shown at E3.
This sounds really awesome. I hope it is true. You guys must admit that since the Official UK Nintendo magazine reported this, there must be some credibility.

Why's this in Fast Forward? Wouldn't it be a Cube rumour? Anyway I think it's possible for Square Enix to release another Cube game considering the Crystal Chronicles has sold quite well. I don't know about such a title contains elements from all three PSX FFs. The only common ground of those three stories is that they're so cliche. *ZING* Maybe that's a goof and the real product is a collection of those three titles.
I don't necessarily doubt the validity of Official UK Nintendo magazine but I don't know them as a great source either. I really know nothing about them. I typically don't trust Nintendojo.

If it is true I want them to go back and use 5 characters again.
Black Mage-Magic Attacking
White Mage-Magic Healing
Finesse Character-Stealing, Jumping, Dexterity Fighting, Magic for its Ranger/Rogue type of fighting etc
Tank Character-Good old bashing of the character, combo related moves, combos you can already choose, Magic to simply upgrade the weapon, etc
Main Character-Good use of physical and magical fighting and technique. Cecil and Beatrix were perfect examples and maybe FFVII's character since you can customize them basically.

Sounds like they want to bring Ninty gamers up-to-date with the FF series...But I couldn't stand VIII and IX, sooo...

If you ask me, Square has proven they cannot put both a good story and good gameplay into one game. So, how about they release both parts separately?

I really don't see what is wrong with Square-Enix.

Bah! Give me FFTactics, or give me death. Make it VII+Tactics, priced at 24.99
I don't think this can be true anyway, Square-Enix can't be so stupid as to think we will buy ports of, what is it, five year old games?

Why wouldn't we buy those games? Playstation fans went and bought FF Anthology, Chronicles, and Origins. Though I think if Square Enix were really smart they would release a compilation of FF3, DW5, and DW6. What RPG nut wouldn't buy that? If I was Nintendo I would even offer to publish such a collection since being the first American console to have the SNES Dragon Warrior games would be a pretty nice feather in the cap.

I think that's a wonderful idea- it would be a HUGE asset to Nintendo if they were able to get some old Dragon Warrior games rereleased on the Gamecube, especially the ones that were never released outside of Japan.
Seriously, Ian- that's the best idea I've heard in a long time.

I hope that if it is a synthesis of all three, it is nothing like Evolution Worlds...

What made you think of Evolution Worlds? It seems so weird you mentioned that game. To me Evolution Worlds is to Skies of Arcadia as Final Fantasy Mystic Quest is to Final Fantasy IV.

I thought Evolution was ripping off Grandia, not SoA? Ok, maybe it took both...

I thought of evolution worlds, because the game is the crappy combination of Evolution 1 and 2, with elements of both games subtracted and less story than the two full length games.

That's Kingdom Hearts 2 it's referring to, not Final Fantasy.

There is a pretty big difference between a collection that includes rare games/games that require a twenty-year-old machine to play, and a collection that includes games that are as easy to find as dirt for a machine that can be had brand new for $20.
Most gamers still own FFVII/VIII/IX. Only hardcore gamers(who take excellent care of there games) will have FFI/II/III and Chrono Trigger. (not to mention I/II in Origins are remakes, not straight ports.)

Agreed.

As long as it isn't an FF-game crossover, I'm interested.

Heh. I had no idea the Gamecube was selling THAT well. Seriously, Nintendo went from being backed up to not being able to produce enough. The charts for monthly GCN sales must look like this:

Ya know, I'm not really sure why I put it in fast forward. I guess the excitement from reading this rumor made me completely stupid.
