Title: What was better, the boat or the horse?
Post by: Smashman on March 09, 2004, 09:07:38 AM
What did you all think was better? Epona from OOT or The King of Red Lions from WW?
Since OoT is the clearly superior game, I think Epona is superior. She is faster and less irritating to use. Also, shooting arrows while on her is fun.
But, I prefer walking over both, as it is less irritating.

"Since OoT is the clearly superior game"
And yes, the bunny hood owns both King of Red Lions and Epona...

Let's see:
Horses really exist and thus fit in quite well with the Zelda universe.
Boats that TALK do not exist and look really out of place in the Zelda universe.
I consider Zelda a fantasy series and Epona fits much better with that theme. Even with the cel-shaded graphics the talking boat looked really weird and out of place. Epona would look fine cel-shaded, the King of the Red Lions would look f*cking retarded in any other style. Thus Epona fits the series better.
Plus I found that I just preferred to ride a horse across land than sail a boat across water. The ocean was, first of all, much more dull to explore than the land of Hyrule and with the horse I didn't have to play a song whenever I wanted to change directions.
So Epona wins in fun factor, style, and ease of use.

*s with Bill*
I don't understand your logic, Ian. The fantasy world looks wrong with something fantastic in it? Of course? (I understand what you're saying, sort of, but it still doesn't make much sense )
Anyway, I like both. Epona was probably my favorite, just cause she's so nice and awesome, but I also liked the King of the Red Lions a great deal. I liked sailing more than riding, when I had to go place to place, because of the atmospheric effects in WW, but the playing to change wind direction was a pain. I like them both, but Epona has something special. Perhaps because KotRL took the semibossy role of Navi and the fairies, along with the transportation, and Epona was just always there when you needed her. . .

They should of just let you swim through the ocean by discovering the lost zora something. Swimming as a zora was one of the coolest things you could do.

I like both equally. In Zelda games there is always going to be an awesome form of transportation.

I found that Epona was more fun because not only did you have to earn her but you could also travel without her. I loved the idea of calling up my companionable steed whenever she should be needed.

If by "superior" you mean "not superior" then sure. Don't say that one game is clearly superior to another unless you are contrasting a Nintendo game and a Midway or Acclaim game. Unless of course you WANT me to write a 5000 word rant on why WW is "clearly" superior.
As for which I like better, I'd say that I can't choose. I liked riding Epona cause she was a living creature and horses are cool and blah blah blah etc. But I like sailing a lot too.
Wait, isn't this a poll?

Saying OoT is superior, Smashman, is looking for trouble. You should know better.
As for which is better, I don't think it matters because POLL.

Boat ... Definitely the boat.
Having the horse just kinda' appear out of nowhere when you call it is just not right.
I just think WW is much better overall, although some of the early cut-scenes where downright horrific (only part I HATED about the game).

Look here Boat you have to take your time to change wind and getting you crane cannon etc on while horse your moving strait away and you already have the bow on you.
but then the BUNNY HOODS. Professional 666 is correct. can you get your horse on stone or in a town and even in water no, can you get your boat on land not beside it, no you can do all of that with the bunny hood. so i would say Horse because its a poll, if it wernt then i would definatly say BUNNY HOODS

I do, and what Aretak is trying to say is, Zelda is an awsome game no matter what, and all you idiots out there who think that it's not good enough for you, then screw you.
The horse is better. For two reasons. 1) Epona used to belong to Malon, yes the pretty one with the beauuutiful singing voice 2) The boat talked too much and got on my last nerve.

i like the boat because you could just go in the general direction and not have to hold forward to go somewhere far. but the changing directions is harder. in that sense the horse wins but i like the boat.
