Title: Official "I wanna see..." Thread
Post by: kirby_killer_dedede on March 03, 2004, 11:49:03 AM
FIRST POST FIRST POST FIRST POST!  There's the first post of the day, first post of the week, first post of the month even...but nothing is sweeter that being the first to post on a thread.  ;-)

Anyway, seeing as the "WHAT GAME SHOULD I GET?" thread got so popular in the GC section, and I can't pull that off here for obvious reasons...

EDIT: *shudder*  Apparently, in the few minutes I decided to take thinking up something to say, fourteen people posted.  Damn.

actually, there are several posts (in multiple threads) before yours.  granted, they were originally in the other systems thread and moved here, but they came before yours, nonetheless.

and there's one thing i'd like to see in the ds:  innovative games.  i'd like to see something truly unique that's never been done before.  something to turn the industry upside down.

(who said i have high hopes for the system?)

A Star Fox game, definitely.  That would kick ultra ass with two screens.

what about a mario game where one screen shows the surface and the other screen shows under ground? Or one screen shows the sky with platforms and such and the other the surface....sure it would be like using one huge screen but hey, i wouldnt mind at all.

First post in a section is nothing.  Back in the old days when they switched to EZBoards I believe I was the first non-staff member to post in that forum so HA!.  I believe my post was something like "what the f*ck happened to the old forum?"

Anyhoo here's what I would like to see.  I don't think they're very creative ideas but they're cool.

-Zelda game with pararalel worlds like A Link to the Past.  Each world appears on one screen.  This idea has been discussed a lot before.
-Vertical shooters that use the entire two screens.  F*CK YEAH!
-An RTS where you can view two different areas of the map at the same time.  So one screen can be used to monitor the enemy while the other is your base.  Control of each screen is swapped with the push of a button (select if that's included with the hardware design).  It's not super innovative but it's really useful and cool.
-Arcade perfect ports of Punch-Out!, Super Punch-Out! and Arm Wrestling.

I'm a little more intrigued by this wireless aspect.  Can you imagine playing deathmatch Goldeneye on this DS?  Wireless seems to open up a lot of possibilities.  I wonder if the graphics will be N64 quality or better.  I can really see the 2 screens being used extensively for a new Metroid prime game.  The wait for E3...ugh

A Starfox game would be great, and i'd love a Pikmin game too.

I want to see a Pokemon game launch with it, or come out shortly after it, but knowing Nintendo i'll have to wait a few years. -_-

A movie type of game where you are always doing weird stuff to it while watching some sort of movie.

I would like to see a game based on a character who is hunting a man for revenge.  Say his wife and family were killed or something.  1st screen would be for urself and say ur character had preminissions or something and would show up on ur 2nd screen which would give u clues about what your enemy did or will do or an idea of where he or she is.  And then finally in the end u catch ur killer and it turns out it is your best friend or somethin.

Or How about a squad based fps where u are the captain on one screen and the second screen would be the view of your teammates, and u just press a button to switch from teammate to teammate.  Like say u r a swat team member and u r gonna raid a drug house, so u use ur teammates views to locate any problems u might face once u enter the house or know the location of the guy u r gonna arrest.

Or how about a WWE smackdown game where when u r in a career and say ur character is in a match the 2nd screen would actually show a tv like broadcast of the event like in real life, and the 2nd screen would show enemies leaving their locker rooms to interfere.  Then say other characters will have feuds and u can watch it all unfold on the second screen while u r in a match.  Then say if u weren't in a match then the 2nd screen would show matches occuring while u are being interviewed or something.

i dunno how good these are but i just thought them up in like 5min.  Let me know what ya think.

Word is that Ninty is launching the DS with around a dozen games, so just maybe it will happen...

I've thought of another idea and this one is actually kind of creative.  The game is a puzzle game where balls fall down an obstacle course from the top screen to the bottom one.  At the very bottom are containers.  Some of them are filled with lava some are "safe".  The goal is to get as many balls as possible to land in a safe container.  The amount of balls released and the amount of safe containers varies depending on the level as well as the required amount of balls that have to survive to qualify for the next round.

The top screen's obstacle course is static.  You can't change it, only see it.  The bottom screen is where you can move things around to make sure the balls land in a safe container (naturally they won't by default).  You have a timer before the first ball falls to set things up.  You can also set things up on the fly.  Why would you want to do this?  Because the balls are different colours and thus respond differently to different parts of the obstacle course depending on colour.  Yellow balls bounce twice as high off of trampolines, grey balls are affected by magnets, etc.  So each ball falling may take a different path down the top screen so you have to make sure that the bottom screen you control adapts to these different paths.  Sometimes you can set it up ahead of time for multiple paths.  Other times you have to change on the fly.

Do you guys think we'll see any first party DS games (PLAYABLE) at E3?  I sure hope so.  The DS has a lot of room to develop now, since the P***SP just got pushed to 2005.  I expect to see the DS in Japan Q3 of 2004.  If we're lucky in NA, Q4, or Q1 of 2005.  Either way, we'll hopefully beat the P***SP.

Oh no.  I just realized the letters "SP" are used in the name.  MORE REASONS FOR LAWSUIT!  MWAHAHAHAHA!

Obviously there are going to be titles shown at E3, and most likely playable as well...Considering Ninty will want to head off on the right foot with the gaming press...

a GTA Game, if its true that it can push 3D graphics, similar to N64 ones, then one screen has GTA1 Like images the other has GTA 3 like images.

Id also like to simply see the two screens forming one huge screen. For 2D Shooters like Ikaruga...

I just realized I hadn't posted mine yet, so here goes

I'd like to see another rythm game by Namco (I just imported Donkey Konga, so I'm in a rhythm kinda mood).  And two screens would open up SO many possibilities to Pokemon...

Would you guys prefer a flap-top (SP), or the classic GB/GBC/GBP/GBA style?  I think a flap-top's the way to go, seeing as this is gonna be one hell of a portable (size-wise)

>=o curses! ORIGINAL GAMES PLEASE ;____;. Beatmania could work pretty well on the DS, one screen for the key bar and the other for the visuals. OH NOES I SUGGESTED A SEQUEL

Yeah, I'm all for orginality as that is the one thing Nintendo is lacking right now. All we get is SEQUELS. REALLY good sequels but sequels nonetheless. Ah, what am I complaining about? I love Ninty.

It doesn't matter if we get sequels on the DS.  As long as they use the dual screen concept they'll be innovative.  The reason Nintendo is so sequel happy with the Cube and GBA is because aside from superior hardware those consoles aren't much different than their predecessors.  However with the DS they have completely unique hardware to work with so even if all we get are Mario spinoffs they'll be different than anything we've played before.

Sequels are fine as long as they have a reason to exist.  Metroid Prime = good sequel.  Mario Party 5 = bad sequel.

wow u spelled it, that is so bad ass. lol.

How about some sequels to some new franchises. such as golden sun, or a new advanced wars game (well technically it isnt a new franchise for japan but it is in the usa), and of course the mario and luigi game.  I wonder how good the wireless link thing will work on SP.

Animal Crossing where one screen shows your inventory, and one shows the game or somethin.'

By the way, DS will be compatible with old GB games, right?  I heard it will...If it is, though, will it be able to use the e-Reader?  GB Camera???  Kirby's Tilt 'n' Tumble!?!?!?

By the way, I think it should havethe ability to play old GB games on one screen, the other, or maybe even BOTH!!!  Maybe the screens can slide colse enouch together to make one image!  Think of the movie playing capabilities!!!

 Anyway, there's my 0.02$
