Can you imagine playing a India-centric game? I can handle japanese-centric weirdness in games but .... LOL I am HIGHLY interested in what they come up with just out of curiousness. "Imaginative" will probably be the best (and perhaps most polite) descriptor for whatever they produce. They could make one strange DDR rip off now couldn't they? lol

I'm quite intrigued - I hope more countries get into it, I mean, I wonder why we're not getting more games from other east Asian countries (South Korea seems to be getting into it). It makes money and employment, and hey, what country wouldn't want in on that?
It's Afganimation!

It doens't surprise me. India recently has been pushing to get jobs. Which currently is sort of a hot topic since a lot of support jobs are being shiped there. India is really job hungery.

If it is anything like thier movie industry, no thanks. 99.9% of the stuff that comes out of there is a musical in one fom or another. Even thier so calld action movies have music numbers in them.
Imagine that you just gunned down a couple dozen guys and then for the cut scene to break into some sort of weird dance that is supost to advance the story. So cold....

I can see it now. An anti terrorist game where you hunt down George Bush. Should sell real well over here.

I'm pretty excited by this. India's economy is picking up, and a lot of skilled and semi-skilled labour is being sourced there. As oohhboy pointed out, the movie industry is growing fast. Slotting videogames in there as well could be a real boost to the industry.
Most of the major games now can be broadly caterogized as being influenced by one of two cultures: the West or Japan. Adding a third as India would hardly hurt, even if all the games are musicals or whatever (look at Beat Mania and DDR ).

The more I think about this, the lesser and lesser it's likley effectivness becomes to me. Termin8 posted about the Victorian state government's incentive for game development, and it has come to my attention that the New Zealand government has set up a board to encourage game development here as well. Both the schemes I believe to be pretty dodgy. The institute here is solely commercially minded, and not at all much use to my friend, who is looking seriously (he's got the skills and experience) to start a development house here. It isn't because the people that work for the board have negative intentions or anything, just that the government has little expertise in the area of games, and severly restricts the board's effectiveness as a result.
Governments have done crap all to help games in the past, imposing laws and restrictions based on the lowest denominator. I smell political faddism rearing it's distasteful, illogical and somewhat distorted head.
