Title: Nintendo Reacts to Nikkei Report
Post by: Jonnyboy117 on February 10, 2004, 10:39:59 AM
The publisher continues to reiterate that it is working on a GameCube successor.

Following up statements to the press yesterday, Nintendo has released a statement regarding the Nikkei News analysis, which suggested that the company was not planning to compete with Sony and Microsoft and would instead release accessories to extend the life of GameCube.

Nintendo's newest comments simply echo what we were told earlier, but here they are anyway:

NINTENDO WILL STAY IN CONSOLE BUSINESS

February 10, 2004

Contrary to what has been reported in one Japanese publication, Nintendo is staying in the console hardware business and still plans to launch our next home console in the same timeframe as our competitors. In addition, we are working on a number of complementary technical advances that we believe may significantly enhance the gaming experience. We also continue to look for exciting ways to extend the value of the Nintendo GameCube, and will share those ideas with you in the coming months.

Specific details about other accessories or systems and their functionalities haven't yet been made public. However, we will make further information about our next console available in the near future, and we look forward to further demonstrating our record of breakthrough innovation in video game play.

Well there is that DS system, and now these new peripherals, as well as all those long awaited games (MP2, Mario 128 perhaps, WW2) so it should be a great E3, much better than last years "connectivity-fest". Ugh.

I'm glad that Nintendo responded to one of these stupid articles.

This reminds me of the time between SNES and N64 where it got delayed over and over from Playstation to Project Reality to Ultra64.  Nintendo always says they are constantly working on the succesors though.
