Title: Animal Crossing 2 as an MMORPG?
Post by: tomjh on February 07, 2004, 10:54:03 AM
So, what do you think? I don't mean like a FF XI type of MMORPG, I mean like a regular game with an offline mode similar to AC1, and then, if you can hook up to the internet, then you can go to certain areas where lots of people visit and then you can communicate with them. Also, perhaps you could move to these towns, and make big cities, forming one huge Animal Nation! I think that would be cool. How about you?

Erm, so basicly make it exactly the sims online? I dont even see a purpose for AC to be online, to trade? You can already do that anyway.

Its the perfect game to go online simply because you can trade and visit eachothers town in realtime, which is much cooler than bringing your memory card over someones house and such.

Yes, I meant like go to towns and talk to real people, not NPC animals. You could live in those towns and actually communicate with the people that happen to be there then. Also, maybe you could have offline multiplayer, with split screen, even games against one another. Just a thought, but it would be pretty cool.

If somebody complains about this being pointless, well, how much more point has AC at all?

I think it'll go online within the next installment if not there after. Going online will give writing letters a purpose since real players will actually have a proper responce to your letters unlike the npcs in animal crossing who have scripts to follow. I think if they were to go online they should include mini games within the animal crossing village. Like a tennis tournament using the mario tennis engine, a kart league similar to mario karts multiplayer and bowling and billiard tournies such as monkey ball 1 & 2's mini games. You can enter these tournies online and winners will win rare prizes and since they game has a true to life time frame. Tournies can be held on schedule days which will thenl build anticipation (ie. everyone looking foward to novembers tennis tournament becuase they want to come back with a bang becuase of a bad showing in the last tournie)

yeah , if only mr. myamoto (spellin is off I think but too lazy to look it up) let me put in ma 2 cents lol. I'll see if I can send them an email or somethin and but the chances of it being affective are slim to none. That would rock though, give they game more lasting appeal cuase you can only collect items for so long lol.

I think Marios on to something. Maybe have an arcade of old NES games, but multi-player online. Meet at the arcade and play...excitebike! That is kick ass. If you think about it, AC2 could be the perfect game, as long as youre not forced to communicate like the Sims forces you. Thats what will set AC2 apart. You can be a loner, or a media magnet, its all your choosing.

These are all very good ideas. I like! Animal Crossing I think was meant for Online, but since it's not a big field in the GC that is won't happen till next generation system. Though, People are always complaining how GC has nothing but PSO for online gaming. Makes sense, eh?

I think the idea about the tournies and the better than NES games such as MK and MT (don't get me wrong i love the nes games) is great but i reckon that talking would take WAY too long since you'd have to type it in each time.
"Hmm I think I'll go to the shop today, ooh what's this, L.O.Z. Oracle of Ages? I think I'll add this to my collection of Link's Awakening, Mario Tennis and Super Mario Bros. Deluxe!!"
Think about it. If it's on the next-gen system, they could put anything on!!!!

Online yard sale. I intend to put Tom Nook out of buisness with my super low prices. 1000 bells for a very rare Arwing. Oh the possibilities, AC online, a dream, a sweet, sweet dream.

I hope you can design your own character. I want him to wear a Jason Mask.

Miyamoto already confirmed this, like ten months back. AC2 is definitely going online. Oh, and he also said you can design your own furnitiure, if I recall

AC2 hasn't even been officially announced, so I have no idea where you got that from...
Unless it's free to go online, I won't even give it a second look...EVEN if it's a high-class title like AC or Pokemon...

I agree, although I would not mind paying 30 or so every 6 to 9 months for more content.

If its MMORPG you are expected to pay because I think Nintendo would have to keep making up what to do for the play time every month. They wouldn't make up an adventure for you for free really.

Well, eh. It's a cool idea, but it would be better on the PC - with keyboard, Internet, etc. - and the PC already has Sims Online. I wouldn't want to play it on GameCube, I can't imagine chatting with a controller.

they can always make chatting to be available with a headset which wouldnt be bad.
