Title: MEGATON>
Post by: Matrix on January 29, 2004, 08:46:48 AM
According to someone I know who was stretching the NDS more then he should. Apparently, there was a Metroid Zero Mission telecon last Tuesaday evening... and it Metroid Prime 2 info. Only a few tidbits from him...

Quote

There was not a TON of MP2 info disclosed, but there was some, which will be mentioned.

There's also some super hyping going down at IGN forums by the editors right now. About Capcom (not sure about this one, yet), apparently.

Lordy!

Lordy, I say!

NDAs have my tongue. But whoa! Whoa, I say! Holy crap!

Please discuss.

P.S. I apologize in advance. E3 2004 will be happy and warm.

I can vouch for this. I too have seen something and Matt isn't even close to giving it enough credit. Best ever? Maybe,

Either way, it's going to be my most wanted rather soon.

So... yeah. The guy talking about MP2 is a fairly reliable source. Not sure about IGN, though

"E3 2004 will be happy and warm."

Translation: E3 will have at least one Cube game that, unlike most of the connectivity stuff that dominated Nintendo's lineup last year, people will actually give a sh!t about.

Where is this Capcom stuff coming from?  Matt doesn't mention them in the post you quoted.  We probably shouldn't be too excited though since the PS2 guy is talking about it which suggests it's not exclusive.  I mean a good multiplatform game is still great but it's not going to sell any Cubes.

<----gives a **** about connectivity games like Pac-man VS, Four Swords +, and FF:CC

edit:  Ok, wait...Was he talking about Capcom?  It sounds like it could be anything...And I surely hope it's not just RE4-related, considering it's already been revealed...Oh well, it's not that long of a wait...

NDAs, eh?  *signs point to a Ninty franchise*

The Capcom part was posted by Mary Jane (another Gamecube editor), who said this was all "reference to a recent Capcom teleconference" or something along those lines. I can't get into the Insider forums to comfirm she said that, and I'll have to wait until Sunday until I can bum my friends account again.

Also, this was all posted in the IGN Gamecube forums. So most of this is all Nintendo related, most likely.

A little update, regarding both Metroid and IGN...

If this is Metroid related, they just upped the embargo to 3:30 PM PST tomorrow. If it is not Metroid related, which I beginning think that it is not, then..well..I have no idea.

The teleconference was real.  I participated in it and was the person who asked about Metroid Prime 2, since Mr. Sakamoto is involved with both games.  There was not much into revealed, unfortunately.  I'll be able to tell you more about it tomorrow.

Meh. I'm not going to get excited yet. I'll just wait for E3 before I believe any rumors sprouting out of IGN.
And knowing IGN, they'll gush over it until it's finally revealed, then they'll rant for months about how "Nintendo is screwing up again"...

i just found this as well- at www.gamecubeheaven.tk they posted this news

"Killer 7, one of the Capcom 5, is no longer exclusive to the Gamecube. In a press conference held in U.S. Las Vegas, Hiroyuki the producer and Kobayashi announced Killer 7 for the PlayStation 2. Killer 7 will be revealed at E3 and will still debut this July for the Gamecube."

Thats hardly good news. Not good at all. Capcom has been arguably our strongest third party and now their most mature, and hyped new game is no longer exclusive?  I hope it changes soon. Nintendo needs to show Capcom some more money hats.

It's not that bad, either...We still have RE4, which I'm sure is much more anticipated anyway...Plus, I bet the GC version of Killer7 will have a timed exclusitivity...
Title: RE:MP2 details and IGN Capcom hyping
Post by: Perfect Cell on January 29, 2004, 05:56:50 PM
It Is bad. Sure, we have RE4, (How long till Capcom finds a way to get out of that deal too or Viewtifull Joe) and it might be a Timed Exclusive, and it might look worse on the PS2. But it still means one less Hotly Anticipated Exclusive on the GCN, one less reason for a PS2 owner to pony up the 99 bucks for a GCN. Capcom used to be our big Third Party Ally. Sure Acclaim and Eidos could leave, but when our closest allies leave weaken support then its not good Stuff like this is definetly NOT what Nintendo needed to start a pivotal year for them. 2004 Will be very important for the long term success of The Big N. Im definetly worried about how they started the year.

I hardly care about Killer 7 being exclusive. Really, I don't. "We're" getting it first, probably with better visuals. It will probably sell better on the Cube, too (Examples? KoToR and Splinter Cell). They only thing "we" loose is bragging rights.

To be honest, I'm more worried about it sucking. If that happens, "we" have nothing.

Post by: vudu on January 30, 2004, 04:31:24 AM
wait a sec...kotor isn't available on gamecube, and i don't think splinter cell sold very well at all.  unless you're attempting to draw a parallel between the xbox and gamecube in which case that's hardly fair.  plus, i've heard that kotor is much better on pc than on xbox.
Title: RE:MP2 details and IGN Capcom hyping
Post by: Matrix on January 30, 2004, 04:58:18 AM
Dope. I was using the example that the Xbox versions of KoTOR and Splinter Cell sold best on the Xbox because it was their first. Does everything need to be Nintendo related to make sense to you?

And despite KoTOR being a much better version on PC, the sales figures don't relfect that.

killer 7 may be moving to the ps2,  but that does not mean that it will come out on the ps2 first or even at the same time as the gamecube version- the gc version will be out first, and probably time exclusive (like splinter cell on xbox)
personally though- i really want to see this playable version of re4

Well, I finally figured out what IGN was hyping about.

Quote

Capcom Entertainment yesterday announced that it premiered the first-ever playable version of the highly anticipated survival horror sequel Resident Evil 4 on January 28 in Las Vegas. Though IGN was on-hand for the presentation, non-disclosure agreements prevent us from revealing details about the game until a later date specified in advance by the publisher.

NDS agreements on gameplay? WTF did Capcom do to RE? It damn well better be good.

It probably means Leon turns out to be a woman and they don't want those kinds of juicy details leaked.

Talk about a let down.  "Resident Evil 4 is playable!"  Well I should f*cking hope so by now.  "We played it but can't tell you anything else!"  So basically the big news is that IGN has played it and we haven't it.  WOW!

That pissed me off so much, although I'm guess it's not a surprise that IGN decided that the fact they played a game and we didn't is newsworthy.

all the new information will come soon- the thing is that we must wait until they are allowed to release the info on the game- the new information would probably be on how the game plays, the story, new gameplay enhancements, ect...

It's artificial hype.  Once the NDA terminates, a lot of publications will pretty much debut the info they've held back at nearly the same time, strategically sparking a uniform buzz throughout the media much like the Janet Jackson/Superbowl episode.

And the 2nd RE movie might be used to promote the game.

Hey, aren't the RE movies made by Sony? If so, why does Ninty allow them to do so? Don't they have exclusive rights over the RE franchise storyline? Or will the be, as Bill said of the first, nothing like the game. "RE: Apocolypse, starring Sandra Bullock as herself in an actionpacked goomba stomping adventure!!!!"
