Title: Aussie Gaming Bargains Thread
Post by: Aussie Ben PGC on January 26, 2004, 11:46:47 PM
The title says it all, really.  If you've seen some incredibly priced games, post them in this thread, along with details such as where and how long the sale goes for, if you know it.

And I'd definitely recommend checking Pal Gamer Network for game prices - they have info on various stores almost weekly.

Anyway, if you have a Games Wizards in your area, hightail it there and grab a copy of Shining Soul for only $19.95.  I know I did.  Sale lasts until the end of the month I think - you have to be a Gold Card member to get the special, but membership is free, and there's a lot of great deals.

Wow, I feel like an advertisement.

hahahahahaha.

Mario should head on over to EB in Bankstown, cause Billy Hatcher is only 49 bucks!
And if anyone sees Rebel Strike for cheap, tell meeeee!!!!!!

Yeah, a lot of EB's are selling Billy Hatcher for a mere $49.95 at the moment. Not sure how long that one lasts.
You should of picked up a few copies of Powerpuff Girls on GBC, Aussie Ben. Games Wizards are selling it for $2.95 if you're a Gold Card member. I got the last three at the store closest to me and sold them to Cash Convertors for $10 each. <3

also point out if you spot any rare pokegames, like in Harvey Norman of all places at Indooroopilly (teehee what a silly willy name) i saw TWO copies of Phantasy Star Online, a game i've never even seen for Xbox around here, let alone Gamecube, i was quite surprised! i would have bought them both if i had the monies too, but alas ;__;

I know that the money exchange is different, but whenever I see ya'll say a game costs 49.95 or whatever I have to stop and remind myself that it's not the same 49.99 over here.  It might be I don't know.  I don't follow money exchange rates.  PSO is still selling for 49.99 here new.

According to the current exchange rate, 50 Aussie dollars is approximately equal to 39 U.S. dollars...However, I've seen many an Aussie complaining about games that cost 100 Australian dollars((77 U.S. dollars) and that's just absurd...

hmmm, I can remember when games here in the US cost that much, as early back as the N64 era.  I spent like $80 for Mortal Kombat Trilogy on N64.  And I didn't have a lot of money at the time either so then it was a big deal for me to spend that much on ONE game.

a good online currency value calculator

the rise in the strength of the aussie dollar has caused PC componants to come WAY down, which is a great thing, but has not effected the console market one iota, $110 for games like REmake, RE0, TimeSplitters 2, MGS TTS will launch for that, gooblurns stupid economy >=O. oh yeah, PSO was full price at Harvey Norman, which sucked should have been all bargin bin priced, so i could have grabbed both copies and sent them to Mario and Infernal or something (they sega)

Beach Spikers is $20 in Kmart, if anyone's interested. And EB are supposed to be selling Billy Hatcher for $49, but my local EB is selling it for $99 ;__;, bleh, i'll just price match my EB with another EB, and what an epic adventure it shall be!

Put it this way - I paid AU$110 for Conker's Bad Fur Day, arguably the most expensive N64 game ever.  (Hey You, Pikachu never came out. ;-) )

Big W (or Wal Mart as those crazy Americans call it!) has brought out next week's catalog:

Super Mario Advance 4, Donkey Kong Country, Dragonball Z: Taiketsu and Dragonball Z: Legacy of Goku II are all available for $56.84.

You can also get Pokémon 4Ever on DVD for $16.22. ;-)

Lucky. We're over 85USD a game here.

True fact: I managed to find Skies of Arcadia: Legends for 80NZD (that's about 50USD ) second hand. The guy whom I bought it from mentioned he'd seen it available in Christchuch - a city 4 hours drive away from mine - so I guess a store somehow obtained a few copies and kept them in storage until recently. I may be wrong, but I was under the impression Skies was pretty hard to obtain in PAL at all. So if you're over here, it might be worth your while to check out some second hand stores; you never know when you might find. It's a bargin compared to a Freeloader and a NSTC version from Ebay, eh?
Title: RE: Aussie Gaming Bargains Thread
Post by: DrZoidberg on January 27, 2004, 10:50:14 PM
i'm allways hitting second hand stores, i've got eight consoles to support , second hand stores are brilliance, mostly because they seem to have absolutly no idea about prices, Infernal got Harvest Moon for snes for me for $15 box and manual, cartrige alone it sells for $80+ on ebay so good deals are had by all.

just last week i picked up a second megadrive + a 32x for $30

I always browse through the used games, well always at the EBGames.com, but unless the pirce of the game is very low I won't bother.  I mean to some $5 is a savings, but for that same $5 I could get the game new.  For me it's not even worth it.  But if it sells for $50 and I can get it for $29 or less then I will think about it.  I will only pay a high price for a used game if I can not find it new, or if it is the only place where I can find it, at the time.  Like spending $30+ for Shadow Hearts.  I love that game so much that even though I can find it for cheaper now I don't care.

Speaking of second hand, I couldn't say that I wouldn't murder for a boxed copy of Revenge of the Gator.  Hah - what are the chances of finding that anymore, eh?
Title: RE: Aussie Gaming Bargains Thread
Post by: Infernal Monkey on January 29, 2004, 12:46:04 AM
A boxed copy, yeah, that's pretty impossible.
If I ever find a copy of it though, I'd be more than happy to send it your way, Ben. Every week is a new adventure in Cash Converters. =o

Oh yeah, might as well stick this in here.
DVD Crave;

Sonic Heroes - $79.95
Final Fantasty Crystal Cronicles - $79.95
Harvest Moon - $70

Those are good prices for nutmeg!

Mentioned it first in the "Game Bitching Thread".  My bad!

If anybody's planning on getting Kirby's Air Ride, do take a look at DVD Crave. It'll be a mere $59.95 there, that's a $40 saving! And you get a free set of steak knives!*

Wave Race: Blue Storm's $30 at K-Mart. =o
Well, it might just be the one here, because they only had the one copy, and the box was all dusty and very 'returned stock' looking, but hey.. Whatever. 15% off made it like, $25 or something. IT HAS GOOD GRAPHICS!

Liar, you know you will.

15% is better than nothing, here that 15% on a 49.99 is 7.50 and almost covers next day shipping, or free shipping plus extra taken off.  I haven't bought a game from a brick and mortor store for well over a year, maybe two years, so I love %'s off and/or free shipping.  You could say I live for it.  I may get a game I am only casually interested in if I can get it for cheaper or if I can get it with free shipping.

I was looking at Dick Smith Electronics website, and saw that Metroid Prime is selling for $19.93!

Did anyone know about this?  I know it has been added to the Official Player's Choice List, but none of the other Player's Choice games are selling for that low.  Check for yourself

Through Dick Smith Electronics Direct Sales you can buy anything from the entire range in our regular stores. Set up for the specific purpose of handling mail order customers throughout Australia and overseas, Direct Sales has a national distribution centre in Sydney.

Whether you live in the city or a remote area, we are only as far away as the nearest phone, fax or mailbox. Plus, both our fax number and Internet Online Store are available 24 hours a day.

Certainly looks like it...

...but it looks like their links to the GC games are dead...

DVDCrave is neato.

Evolution Worlds, $34.95
Top Gun, $34.95
TimeSplitters 2, $39.95
Rogue Squadran 3: Rebel Strike, $49.95

Also, it might just be the Myer near me, but they had Final Fight One and King of Fighters Neo Blood 2 for $29.95 each on GBA. They weren't in the bargain bin, however. Ooooh, the bargain bin. When will they learn nobody wants to buy Home Alone 3 on VHS at a 'crazy' $10? *Shakes head*

DVD Crave also has Kirby Air Ride at $60 instead of the ludicrous $100 -- cheaper than a GBA game, too.  Forty dollar saving, can't go wrong.  Unless you don't like the game.  It's had very mixed reviews.

Famitsu gave it 30something out of 40 i think, rated it better than F-Zero GX, but Joe Gas Sation only gave it 3 road side pies out of 10, personally I'll buy it at some stage cheap, i'm not really clamouring for it right now.

F-Zero is at least really fun on the easier difficulties.

I really wouldn't recommend Rebel Strike. I bought it on a whim, and damn, was a stupid thing to do.

I rented Rebel Strike, and enjoyed it more than Rogue Leader (not a great game though).  I loved the Endor speeder bike level, and can play it all day long!  ^_^  I would like to pick it up real cheap (or second-hand) just for that.

But I will have to wait awhile for it to come down to my price.........I hope so.

Yep, HM is pretty much impossible to find in stores. DVDCrave's got nine copies left out of the 40 they souced in. They've also recently got copies of Sonic Mega Collection, Sonic Adventure DX, Burnout 2, Final Fantasy: CC bundle pack thing (with the GBA cable), Phantasy Star Online and Resident Evil 0 in. O_o

I guess you could call that a bargain, seeing as SMC goes for like $120 on eBay, and they're selling it for $85.

Perhaps i'll get Pokemon Channel, i plan to get it, so i might as well get it for $40 at Toys R Us. Or maybe i can get it for cheaper at Kmart... 15% off $50 equals.... ummmm.... something less than 50 and more than 40... i think, aw noes. =O

Hay guys. DVDCrave's got a big sale thingy goin' down at the moment. Just check the top of their site. 1080's like $65 O_o, there's a bunch of crap games for $17.95. And things!

Also, Big W's are doing an unofficial game stock clearence. Random stuff in bins. Beyond Good and Evil and Mario Kart: DD are $36 each. ZOOOOOM.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh............that's nice.  I'm still waiting for Rebel Strike price to go down further.  And RE0's price looks tempting.

But I don't have the time to play all these games, since I have 3 others waiting to be played (and 2 others that need more playing time).

Target sale that ends next wednesday:

GBA Games $49.95 each include:

* Wario Ware
* Golden Sun
* Pokemon Pinball
* Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
* Advance Wars 2
* two crappy games

E-Reader half price - $39.99 (save $40 =o)
Title: RE: Aussie Gaming Bargains Thread
Post by: Infernal Monkey on June 09, 2004, 08:22:38 PM
Also, Wind Waker, Wario World, Soul Calibur II and F-Zero are $60 each.
I thought about the e-Reader.. But I don't think it works on the GB Player. =o

Plus Nintendo's kinda stopped putting it to any use at all. =/

I think it does, I think it does, I think it does.  But I could be wrong.  So check it out to be sure if you want one.  I haven't gotten one yet, I have been tempted, but the price is a little to much for me to jump in right now, it's like 34.99 and that is the cost of a first party GBA game, well most of them anyways.
Title: RE: Aussie Gaming Bargains Thread
Post by: Infernal Monkey on June 15, 2004, 12:47:37 AM
I should read up on or something. I wouldn't mind an e-Reader, seeing as I've collected alot of the swipe cards for no real reason O_O

=O
BIG EB SALE.
Started yesterday, it goes for a MONTH! HOLY CRAP THE SHOP WAS FULL OF PS2 GAMES. The table would of had well over 500 PS2 games spread over it, but like.. not... 500... different games. Random games are 10%, 25% or 50% off.

In GameCube land, it's super smell. F-Zero's $50, Batman Rise of Pennuuus is $25, XIII's $50, Dragonball's $45 and um. The end. GBA's even worse. I think the only game reduced in Splinter Cell at 50% off. But if you're looking to score a PS2 bargain, go go. Extermination's $10, Evil Dead's $15, Warhammer's $20. =o

Also, it would seem publishers are going to send them unsold unpopular stock throughout this sale. Maybe Atari will send all those copies of SOA: L I know they have hidden in their garage. ;__;

Gamecube is $137 at EB instead of $199. Which is $30 more than a SP! :-O
Title: RE: Aussie Gaming Bargains Thread
Post by: nitsu niflheim on June 15, 2004, 08:02:41 AM
You are so strange Infernal, why would you collect something you can't use?  Nevermind, I probably already know, you do it because its something you do, just because, rite? =D

I have several swipe cards, but I got them from magazines.
Title: RE: Aussie Gaming Bargains Thread
Post by: Infernal Monkey on June 16, 2004, 01:39:10 AM
Yep! =D
Heh, well... I'm now the 'proud' owner of an e-Reader! I got EB to price match, then traded in Godzilla and Simpsons Road Rage. THEY GAVE ME $25 FOR ROAD RAGE. THAT'S $10 MORE THAN I PAID FOR IT! Plus it has no instruction manual. O_O

$15 for Godzilla. =o
So I ended up giving them no money, just poo games.

It's pretty nifty. My GameCube looks bloody retarded now! Jet GC, Indigo GBP, and this thingy sticking out! It came with Donkey Kong JR., Air Hockey-e, Manhole-e and some Pokemon cards! Scanning all those DKJ cards was a bitch.

But, I am CRUSHED. I went to get my copies of Excitebike, Tennis and Mario Bros. out today and they were ALL CRUSHED. ;_____;

The e-Reader can't read them at all! ARRRRRR!!
Also, I am crushed X2 that the US got so many more NES e-Reader games! We only got Excitebike, Mario Bros. and Tennis here.

well that sucks, you can't flatten then out somehow, setting heavy stuff on them to make them flat again?

Kudo's on getting it for no cost, and even more for turning in a game and getting more back on it that you paid for it, that is awesome.

Nah, I tried that. They'd obviously been crushed under the text book thingy for a long time, there was a big icky crease line through the middle, which causes the e-Reader to go "BUPBOW!"

Oh well, I got Mario Bros.-e yesterday. The rebuilding begins! ^_-

K-Fart, 24th - 30th
- Pokemon Colosseum - $87
- Mario Party 5
 Zelda: WW
 Soul Calibur II
 Mario Kart
 F-Zero - $76 each

Donkey Kong Country 2 - $59
Sonic Advance 3 - $59

Though, if you're wanting GBA games, check out Myer. What with their 25% games thing, new release $70 GBA games end up at $50. =o

blol three Infernal posts in a row. Anyway, Target's much hyped Toy sale starts tomorrow, (Stores open at 8 AM). It ends on the 1st. The actual game 'bargains' fall pretty flat, but er, yeah.

Any 2 of the following GameCube games for $49
- Sonic Adventure 2
- Vexx
- Micro Machines (I didn't even know this got ported to GC)
- Men in Black II
- Taz Wanted
- Monopoly Party
- Legends of Wrestling 2
- Burnout (Target claim you save $75.50 on this one... sure....)
- Virtua Striker 3 (It has an actual Sonic Team in it )
- Mary Kate and Ash Face Sweet 16
- ATV 2

BeyBlade, $35
Pokemon Colosseum, $85

The GBA, Xbox and PS2 sales aren't even worth bothering about. I don't really see how Yu-Gi-Oh for $70 on GBA is a massive bargain. =\

Oh, but Dancing Stage Megamix is $50 on PS2. And Namco's Plug and Play mini-console is $30.

Oh yeah, found an Atari controller plugged into a TV at work last night. I had to control myself from grabbing the controller and destroying it. It was an all-in-one thing plugged directly into the AV ports, which had me mildly turned on.
So I will investigate later on tonight because it didn't look like it was working. This could be very bad news for Nintendo, with Atari launching a mass assault on last place in Australia. Or not.

Yeah, I had a good long look at the Namco Plug and Play today. It requires 4 AA batteries, it has no AC adaptor. Stuff that. =\
Oh also, those 2 for $49 games are $24.50 each. I was thinking you'd HAVE to buy 2, but no. Sonic Adventure 2's finally in Player's Choice packaging.

Soul Calibur 2
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

are apparently all going to be Players Choice titles soon.

EB is having another sale-o-rama, except this time it's just preowned stuff. 10 - 50% off though, worth checking out.

I got Killer Instinct Gold for $8 =D

Donkey Konga is only $90AUD for a preorder at DVDCrave. With the drums and all, I would've thought it'd be a few bucks more expensive... maybe they don't realise it comes with them yet? The shipping will probobly cost a bit more, though.

Oh hey, spend $100 at EB and get a $25 gift voucher, it ends Saturday. Also, (not Nestrendo related) if you trade in three Xbox/PS2/GC games, you'll get GTA: SA for $10 (you have to pre-order).

HMMMM. GAMECUBE. EB.
- Cat(girl)woman (lol massive flop) - $39.95
- That new.. Xtreme G game.. whatever it is - $29.95
- BloodRayne - $29.95
- Die Hard Vendetta - $19.95
- Freestyle Soccer, or something - $19.95

How very boring. =o

Well I get all my games from Ebay.com.au ussually. Most gamecube games are still in good condition with manuals because the console isn't very old like snes where manuals are rare. There are some risk but being able to save over 50% on rrp on almost everything makes it worth it in my book. Plus visiting local retailers is a fair hassle for me and a bit of a gamble due to their lack of games on shelf.

I'm sorry that Raw 2 on xbawx is such hilarious multiplayer fun. Smacking the referee in the head with a chair is hilarious. Suprise box attacks backstage in between events are hilarious. And four guys holding on to the title belt in a ladder match, madly mashing buttons and abusing the tv is hilarious.

So very sorry <3

I was in EB today. More than half the product was cleared off the shelf and there were dozens of empty cardboard boxes everywhere. I aksed the guy what was going on and he said there was a big sale starting tomorrow (the ninth). All the stuff they need to clear out will be really cheap, apparently. I'm not sure if this is different sale to the one Dasmos mentioned or not. Does EB synchronize its sales?

According to the Toys R Us catalog, you can get Donkey Konga with Bongos for $45.  When I went to have a look, I couldn't see any copies, though.  At Game Rush, though, I saw Jungle Beat with Bongos for $40 - $10 cheaper than if you order the bongos directly from Nintendo.  So I picked it up because, even though I don't really like Jungle Beat, how could I pass up a second pair of bongos with a game that's cheaper than buying the bongos on their own?

Also, Donkey Konga with Bongos at Game Rush Melbourne is $40 - looks like they're trying to get rid of their bongo sets.

Good deal Aussie Ben. Are there any Game Rush stores in Sydney?

That's completely understandable, I can't wait (sarcasm heavy for special fx) for the next gen to interest me, namely when the REV comes out and I will probably have to shell out 60 bucks per game, thats just wrong.
