Title: What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?
Post by: Dirk Temporo on January 25, 2004, 07:37:41 AM
That is, assuming there's going to be one. I'd have to say that Viewtiful Joe would be an absolutely perfect addition. I mean, he already has his moves all planned out and he even already has a double jump. He's perfect!

Other than being property of Capcom, that is a good idea. After I played melee for a while, I, too, felt like there should be more characters, but if you really think about it there are no others. Kid Icarus is often mentioned as a wanted addition, but I've never played his game(s), so I don't know. If you look through all your trophies, other than more Pokemon, it seems that Nintendo has no one else. So an alternate solution is letting existing "clone" characters play differently or better yet having Nintendo make more franchises. (Seriously the main reason I want new franchises is for Smash Brothers, which if you think about it- it is preposterous...lol)

one problem with adding viewtiful joe would be the controls for the game are completely different than ssbm. so they would have either (a) have a different control scheme for joe or (b) completely change around joe's controls, which would be very awkward. down b to slow-mode is not good. which, brings up a new point, it would be very very annoying to play against joe when he was constantly messing with the speed of the game.

Wasn't there a Namco game that was trying to copy the Smash Brother phenomenon? I say that Namco should let Nintendo use all those characters and slap the ones that fit into the next Smash Brothers.

Quote I say that Namco should let Nintendo use all those characters and slap the ones that fit into the next Smash Brothers.
I disagree. SSBM should stick to being a 1st/2nd party compilation.

Like you, I actually want the series to stay Nintendo only, but that puts the Nintendo in a dilemmna when it is time to cast for the next game. What do you guys think about characters appearing for the first time in Smash Brothers (characters making their first public appearance in Smash Bros. instead of their respective Nintendo franchise)?

how about captain olimer and a small army of pikmin?

Yes lol I was also thinking of Olimar from pikman I would like to see: -Captain Olimar -Koopa kid/baby bowser -Wario -Sonic -Birdo -Majora -Dixie Kong

While I'm on the subject of Capcom games, I was thinking about King Arthur from Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts. Remember, it's not the same guy that's in Maximo, so it's still Nintendo exclusive.

-Geno -Kid Icarus -Ridley -Boshi ? -a Custom Robo character ?
Also, I think characters appearing in a Smash Bros. game before their own could be pretty cool because you could build up hype about their game before it came out; kinda like a sneak peek at what the character's like. They could have a trophy system similar to SSB:M and entries like Marth's or Roy's, but would say "Coming Soon" at the bottom instead of "Japan Only". They could maybe put a vague release date, but not an exact one, just in case the game gets delayed.

Yeah, Ridley is a must, perhaps with Meta Ridley as a bonus character. What his down+B attack will be isn't hard to guess.

I think if they had Capcom chrs. Mega Man would rock. They could fix in a way for him to "steal" their powers. Every character makes a different attack. Like Mario he turn Red and shoot giant fireballs. Link he would boomerangs like in Mega Man X. Sounds a little like kirby...but a little more evolved.

I actually want the next SSB to be a lot like Powerstone, EHRgeiz, etc with this freedom of movement fighting.
Title: RE: What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?
Post by: KDR_11k on April 17, 2004, 11:19:47 AM
That'd be a major change in gameplay and I doubt it'll be for the better. 3d means less accuracy and less interesting maneuvers. Jump attacks would be a big problem as well, since it's hard to judge your position in 3d...
Title: RE: What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?
Post by: Bill Aurion on April 17, 2004, 11:23:36 AM
That would make the game way too complicated...Think about the way you die in Smash Brothers...If you got knocked off, trying to determine the angle of the stage would be just near impossible...

That can be one side of the dice in the game.
Characters:
Pokey Tingle regular ole metroid Demon Gannondorf OoT Fairy They're so hot! Shigeru Miyamoto He has moves that are combinations of most characters Humanoid Console (current generation)

Kingvudu mentioned "a small army of pikmin," and it got me thinking. When the Ice Climbers were first announced, the idea of them playing in tandem was weird, but they pulled it off. But, what if they did that same thing with pikmin, and made it like 4 or 5? If you have ever played Yoshi's Island, you know then how the trailing could work.
Personally I like the idea of these little pests taking over the stage. It could provide for some unique battles.

Wario is the obvious must. Now that he's had a console game of his own (admittedly not a great one), there's no excuse for snubbing him again.
More playable Pokemon: They're made for this kind of thing. Preferably a flying type, like Pidgeoto.
Neat 3rd party additions:
Pacman - Pacland style Sonic Kinikuman Mega Man Bub or Bob from Bubble Bobble
Also, what if we did put a couple of photorealistic people in the game. Shigeru was mentioned before, but what about some pro wrestler or some gangsta rapper? Wouldn't it be great to have Mario kicking Hulk Hogan's ass? Or better still, Link stabbing Snoop Dogg?

I don't want it as a major feature, just some ungodly hidden playable character... like Mr. Game and Watch was (I STILL haven't freed him up).
Totally unannounced too, like after 20,000 matches all of a sudden Snoop Dogg or someone is a playable character. It'd totally throw people for a loop, like all those rumors about Sonic being available in SSBM. Everyone would call the person a liar. Make the person, as I said, photorealistic, so it looks like a bad photoshopping...

Hahaha, that would be funny seeing link stab snoop.
The person that i think would be really cool is Ridley. I also agree with some of you guys that we should get some of the Capcom guys like Mega Man(with all of the upgrades from MMX) and Viewtiful Joe. And the way I pictured Joes was that he could aim his power at one player, and he could charge them up too. so lets say he has a team mate so he uses the fast forward power on his teammate and he kicks butt that much faster. or there is an enemy running at Joe and joe uses the fast forward power and the guys runs of the cliff. the more he charges the faster and longer he remains like that.

Better still, how about a couple of characters from various webcomics just randomly inserted (maybe requiring a connectivity thing to free them up). If its an N5 title you might even be able to make it downloadable... cross promotion is a good thing.

Animal Crossing player character.
You'd smack people with bug nets, dig holes and you'd grab people with your fishing pole. Of course, this is a terrible idea. . . But really. . . would any one you actually be against it, I mean, really?!
Seriouslly though, I see Wario, Kid Icarus and actually a Custom Robo character being serious possibilities. Wario I would bet on.

See, i want it to retain its 2d ness...however heres an idea..imagine a level which rotates like a carosell only of course you stay in the front of the carosell always on a 2d plan. But if more weight of people is on one side it rotates in that direction.

Thats exactly what i was thinking. Put King Dee dee dee in it too.
They will prolly add a new pokemon and as much as I want Team rocket in it I know it wont happen. The only new pokemon I can see them adding in is Blazekin
Yes Diddy should be in
Thumbs up to the animal crosing idea
and I also thought Gannon would be a good addition (you know his pig form)

Ok first no humar characters, and no non nitendo guys taht would ruin it. And espicially no random cartoon characters. Just Nintendo people. Dasmos had the good idea of Mallow Nimbus, Geno, Jinx , from Super Mario RPG. IM not sure if they arent square property, since they worked on the game also, someone might have to back me up on that. Jasondtz said soemthing about Punch out characters, i would rather have little mac, that owuld be great. The AC is character and Custom RObo guy would be awesome. And Daisy is not just a shade of peach she is a different person all together. Though i dont think we should have Daisy or Petey Pirahna we have to maek room for other more important characters. I cant believe someone did not say Professor E.Gadd he is now a stable of Mario games and he would be great. Olimar is a good idea, but he never actually attacks in pikmin so he would like have to have control of pikmin which would be hard.

1) Wario has his own moves from his games...Daisy doesn't... 2) Ninty would need Squenix's permission to use SMRPG characters, so don't count on it... 3) Olimar would be a very ingenious SSB character...They got Ice Climbers to work, so using pikmin shouldn't be too tough

I was actually thinking more along the lines of having Captain Olimar playable. Down-B would pull out a pikmin you could throw or use as a weapon, and regular B would blow his whistle, and do some sort of damage. Of course, that's just me.

First, on a joking note, how about Mike Tyson?
Seriously (mostly), how about good ol' Kevin from Northridge... Also known as Captain N: The Game Master. He could have a "Zapper", "Run" and "Jump" powers, some kind of "Pause" feature worked in there (that pauses the background/enviroment only, not the other players...) and a "Duke call"... If you want a game that has all the Nintendo Mascots in it, you *must* have Captain N. He was the best Nintendo mascot ever.
Title: RE:What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?
Post by: Hostile Creation on November 01, 2004, 08:00:32 PM
First and foremost: More Kirby characters. Meta Knight and King Dedede would be awesome. I mean, Christ, HAL makes both games.
Also important: It'd be nice to see updated version of the characters. Vacuum Luigi, a new Samus with the updated Gamecube possibilities, maybe a waterpack Mario, maybe a cel-shaded Link (instead of young Link), those additions would be nice. Maybe even new Fire Emblem characters.
I think generic enemies should stay out, including things like goombas, koopas, stalfos, space pirates, etc. Heroes and bosses only.
ThePerm, that is a wonderfully awesome idea for a stage. Wow. You should freaking mail that to Nintendo, cuz that would rock.
I thought an evil villains Smash Bros. would be cool, but releasing more villains on the regular game would work, too.
Captain Olimar using Pikmin is a definite character. Be hard to think of moves, but it has promise.
Edit: Oh, Shadow Mario could be cool, too. Maybe, combining another person's idea, have a transform between Baby Bowser and Shadow Mario, like Shiek/Zelda.
Title: RE:What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?
Post by: Spak-Spang on January 28, 2005, 06:27:35 AM
When I look at characters I want to add to SSB, I don't just look at characters that would be cool to play, but characters that would have original and different play mechanics...someone truly different.
The numbers become far fewer when you think on those terms.
Here is an idea or two.
Olimar: Ok. Olimar has very little to no attacks on his own. However, his space suit allows him to soak up damage. When you do your down special attack you pull Pikmin out that fight with you. Now when you punch Pikmin jump out to give you further strength and further range.
Forward B gives you a toss move like Yoshi with the Pikmin. Different Pikmin effect players differently. Red-attach and do damage until shaken off and killed. The more you attach to them the higher % damage is taken off and faster. Other Pikmin can slow opponents down. Make their attacks weaker, or even disable special attacks.
Up B could give him a jet pack boost jump that could be cool. Pikmin on screen could do other cool things like throw them at an item and they will bring it to Olimar and such.
Title: RE: What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?
Post by: nickmitch on January 29, 2005, 09:15:51 AM
Wario would work too but his upB attack would be questionable as to what would it be.
Title: RE:What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?

there are plenty of new characters they could tack onto the next smash bros but i think what needs to happen is the gameplay needs to evolve from something the gba could do with the revolution.

the gameplay needs to evolve from something the gba could do with the revolution.
Why? Simplicity is beautiful.
And why no generic enemies? We already have Pokemon in there. Why no space pirates (or at least the Omega Pirate) or Metroids?
Title: RE: What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?
Post by: Hostile Creation on January 30, 2005, 07:12:35 AM
Pokemon are fine, because you control them in the game and they have some importance or personality. But there are too many generic enemies, and I don't think it'll be as fun fighting as "Space Pirate" or "Goomba". Something like Ridley would be great, and I might be willing to accept a Metroid (since it's what the series is named after and it would provide interesting possibilities in battle), but I think the game should stick to the important characters. It'll thin out if you introduce generics.
Title: RE:What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?
Post by: Spak-Spang on February 12, 2005, 07:34:01 AM
I dunno.
I think every character needs to be examined carefully before they add any. Make sure that character actually adds to the game and isn't just filler.
Another option that isn't that popular, but I would support is this: If a character is too similar to another character in design consider leaving the old character out and adding the new one.
Characters I would like to see, and I think they can create new gameplay mechanics with.
Vaccuum Luigi. He would be unique because his Vaccum attacks can drag weapons, items, and characters towards him or away from him. This Push vaccum attack could be very deadly for those that are trying to jump back to the field and then are pushed away from it. Since it is not a physical attack they do not get a new jump from the hit.
Olimar. I mentioned him earlier. Being not a main attacker himself, he must be used wisely. He starts out with a number of Pikmin, but he must pick others up to attack successfully. Olimar has the ability to completely control the board with his Pikmin, but he is a sitting duck.
Bowser REDESIGN. Take his triple jump away, give him more devistating attacks, and make him a mountain to try to move. I am talking 200% damage before you can really start attempting Smash Attacks. I want him to be also have a few faster attacks to make him more viable, and last an ability to point that fire breath up, down, left, right at opponents.
Balloon Fighter: Here is an idea...a character that doesn't jump at all. He just constantly floats. He would have to be redesigned in with a rotational harness, but the idea is press up and you float for however long you want. The catch? Pop his three balloons and his is land bound with no jump until he creates new balloons. However many balloons he has determines how high he can float.
I really can't think of any other characters right now...but you can see I want new characters that bring completely new concepts to the game, not just additions for now reason to be added.
Title: RE: What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?
Post by: Bill Aurion on February 12, 2005, 07:49:42 AM
Vacuum Luigi is kind of pointless, as I'd rather Ninty stray away from character clones...Instead, Luigi should be given a move(or moves) that involve his vacuum...
And for Bowser Redesign they can just make GigaBowser playable! (without cheating)
Title: RE: What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?
Post by: KDR_11k on February 12, 2005, 08:38:12 AM
Ridley would add a lot. Give him a down+b downward grab-swipe (dives, grabs enemy on contact and throws them around), a standard b fire breath, forward+b tail slash (long, throws enemies off but little momentum/damage) and up+b an upward swipe. Meta Ridley would have a charge beam instead of the fire breath and would launch his bombs with down+b.
Title: RE:What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?
Post by: Spak-Spang on February 14, 2005, 03:29:31 AM
Bill: I was hoping for Vaccuum Luigi in place of the regular Luigi. I don't like the clone ideas either. Though, if you want to have him look like normal luigi and then just use his vaccum in one or two moves that is fine, but then he will be having the Vaccum pop in and out of play which may be bizzare.

And you're saying that the entire concept of Super Smash Brothers *isn't* bizarre?
You have to wonder just from where Link pulls his bombs, Mario his cape, and Peach, Toad, so Luigi pulling out a vacuum cleaner isn't *that* out-there... ^_^

Bill that is true. You know I wished they would have modeled Mario with his cape though, that would have been cool and very retro throwback for us fans.
It just accord to me several Nintendo franchises wouldn't work for playable characters, but they would work great for hidden levels.
Pikmin could have a great level with Pikmin able to be plucked and used as weapons, and Pikmin enemies such as the bird heads that pop out of the ground are there to attack you.
Stunt Racer FX, this retro level would be a great scrolling level in the vain of the Pokemon Float, and the F-Zero.
Luigi's Mansion could even be a great designed level.
I really liked what Nintendo did this generation bringing memorable scenes from different games and blending them into others. It made a more complete world. Luigi's Mansion level in Mario Kart was awesome.

More moving stages is definitely a plus...
Adding to the "Death to Clones" argument, all clones from Melee must be 1) Change of costume of regular character (Dr. Mario) or 2) Given completely new moves (Ganondorf, etc) or 3) Given a new makeover
The particular example I was thinking of for number 3 was Link and Young Link...Young Link should be turned into Wind Waker Link, and Link should be turned into Zelda XII Link...Give them some different moves (such as WW Link having the grappling hook and leaf) and they won't seem so much like clones anymore...

Bill:
I would love a Cell Shaded Link that represented a more light-hearted Link. give him different powers.
I am thinking more powerful special attacks, but make him weaker as fighter.
Special moves could be.
Down Special- BombChus. These bombs can be used to roll after characters and climb walls. 3 second fuse on them.
Fire Arrow-Let young Link keep the Fire Arrow Upgrades they are pretty cool.
Up Arrow-Leaf. This could be used to float back to safety. You can activate it almost instantly after a smash attack has been delivered to give you a floating chance back. Or use it on the ground to Push people away from you, and return projectiles at people.
Foward Special could be a parry move like in WW. __________________________________________________________________________
Older Link would have all the traditional moves he had before. Classic Bombs, Classic Up-Special, Perhaps Instead of the Bow-Arrow give him just his Boomerang, and let it stun people. Then give his Forward Special attack be a nice Sword Combo.
I like the idea of having the two graphically different link go up against eachother. That would rock.

Adding to your move list for WW Link --> B could also be used for his spin-attack...Holding B until fully charged releases Hurricane Spin...

Bill Great idea. That would seperate Young Link from Adult Link, but still give both Links a Spin attack. Young Links spin attack can't give him a 3rd jump, but it can be used for crazy combos.
I could see dropping a Bomb-Chu and charging up the Hurricane Spin, They either jump over one and get hit by the other, or potentially take both.

Dr Mario SHOULD remain exactly the same for he is the greatest character in SSBM..Mybe Mario can adopt some Mario Sunshine moves...eg.
B. Shoot water out of FLUDD while standing.
Across B. Using the Turbo nozzle to do a charge attack similar to foxes/falcos.
Up B. Maybe using the hover nozzle or the rocket nozzle as a second jump.
Down B. Maybe using the spin attack that he has but like in sunshine with the spin jump he can fire water in all directions.

Cell Shaded Link gets Bomb-Chus close to the very end of the game.
I thought to give him Bomb-Chus, because it would give him a very different ranged attack from Adult Link. The idea with Cell Shaded Link is to give him more powerful special moves, but counter that with weaker regular attack.
Adult Link gets much stronger regular moves, but weaker special moves. Its kind of a Yin-Yang type approach to the characters.
1)I wouldn't mind giving Young Link the Bow and Arrow, Adult Link the Boomerang (with Stun ability) 2)Adult Link. Jumping Spin attack, Young Link Grounded Spin Attack, charge to Hurricane Spin Attack. 3)Young Link: Magic Leaf for floating, and for push opponents. New move for Adult Link -->Special. 4)Adult Link: Down B standard Bomb. Young Link: New Bomb-Chus.

I am sort of blending Young Link and Wind Waker Link together because they are both similar character yes.
I do remember that you get Bomb-Chus in OoT to use as Link and Young Link...I think in the sand dungeon you have to use a Bomb-Chu as young link to solve a puzzle.
However, I thought I remembered using Bomb-Chus in Wind Waker. Like it was the second or last dungeon...I once again could be wrong, but for some reason I remember Cell-Shaded Bomb-chus, could someone help me out with my memory?
I have been trying to think of other characters to create. Ridley seems to be a fan favorite for Metroid fans but I just can't see how Ridley would work and create the right scale. I think it would be cool to have more villians for the more popular series.
If they added Pitt from Kid Ikaris (sp) then you could create a very cool Eggplant Wizard character.
As well Lil Mac could be a potential character. I would love to create him with all his special attacks being powerful Smash Attack Punchs, and he doesn't kick at all. His level in adventure mode would be cool too because you could just have a First Person Perspective boxing match with 3 other Smash Brothers Characters...that would rock.

1) Bombchus weren't in WW (you scared me for a second there, though...I was like "I GOT EVERYTHING WHERE IS BOMBCHU!" ^_^)
(Maybe you are thinking of the rats? ^_~)
2) I STILL think Ridley is way too big...And scaling him down would be stupid...
3) Little Mac would definitely work though...Just give him powerful close-range attacks to make up for lacking long-range ones...
Title: RE:What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?

Bill: Sorry about that.
Well, there SHOULD have been Bomb-Chus in Wind Waker. That was one of the most original and cool new ideas created in a Zelda game...and then they barely used them in OoT.
If you ask me, the one thing I worry about the new Zelda games is coming up with new original items. With Wind Waker it was easier in the cartoon world. The Leaf seemed to fit perfect and it added more to the game then you can imagine. Same with the Rope Grapple. Using it in combat to grab items from enemies was a blast.
Looking towards the new realistic Zelda I am worried about potential new items. I don't want more and more sword upgrades or new types of swords. I want weapons that feel unique and actually change the gameplay. Wind Waker and OoT really perfected the 3D Zelda game, so I am worried about original items and content.
One thing that does make me feel better is Nintendo blending the old Top-Down pespective into the 3D game. This could change the game drastically and give it that classic feel.
Oh and about Super Smash Brothers Melee...I am hoping more for an wireless DS version right now than a revolution version. I think with multiple screens the game can advance to a deeper battle system, and include larger levels. (Allowing for more player to fight against eachother.)

Bill: And Olimar would be too small by that logic. Just ignore it. Hell, look at Bowser's size in SM64 or Sunshine, he's huge as well. Scale Ridley down a bit, have him still be pretty large (Bowser's size) but lightweight to make up for his speed and air-based attacks. Nintendo never cared about scale, they resize their characters as they see fit.

Size of the characters shouldn't be an issue. Just look how freaking huge Pikachu is in SSB:M. Also, if Nintendo wanted to use Geno I'm sure they could. He was in Mario & Luigi...
Like with the characters you guys have mentioned, I think it'd be a good idea if they expanded on some of the franchises that are already represented. It'd give it a bit more balance. Example: there's six Mario characters but only one from Kirby. Throw in Meta Knight and/or King Dedede. While you're at it, toss in:
Ridley Kraid Poo/Paula/Jeff Diddy/Dixie Samurai Goroh, etc.
Also, someone mentioned not adding generic enemies. I agree that they shouldn't be included individually, but how about in teams? Think Ice Climbers but with a Goomba, Para Koopa, and a Hammer Bro. I think that'd be awesome.
As for franchises/games to be added to the mix:
Kid Icarus Custom Robo Pikmin Punch Out
and maybe get a bit obscure with:
Balloon Fight Urban Champion Hogan's Alley Duck Hunt (dog and duck combo would rock)
And if Nintendo really wanted to throw in some third party characters into the mix, I'm sure they could arrange it. Nintendo characters are popping up everywhere else, why not the other way around? Of course, the third party characters should be very hidden and their count kept to a minimum:
Sonic MegaManEXE (though I'd prefer classic MM) Pac-Man (he's in Mario Kart arcade...) Bomberman
But in all fairness, I'd be content with a new SSB game even if they added 0 new characters. SSB:M is easily my most-played GC game.

mr. segali has a good idea..what if this character played differently and it let you switch between chars in a sort of paper mario lie way...
and on the note of link costumes.....
why not have more then just color changes(have em...please).,..but actually total make overs..... i want ocarina link as a costume, old school alttp art style, Zelda 2 art style, Ocarina of time art style
and for young link have link as majora's mask link and wind waker link as an alternate costume... and maybe a more elven 8-bit style one too.

I would support I Custom Robo character, that morphed into different forms. Its like Zelda/Shiek, but with 3-4 different forms, and you switch between them randomly. Each form has drastically different moves, somethign Zelda and Shiek did not have.
Wire Frame Guy would be cool too. It could be an unlocked secret character, and literally it has every special move in the game, but you don't know which it will do because it is random. Or it rotates which moves that the character uses each round.

You just know there are going to be at least a couple new Pokemon...So I vote for Ditto...Your only attack is transform, meaning that you need to copy an enemy...Then when you want to switch you'd just use your taunt, like Kirby...
Isaac, the hero from Golden Sun...Mix of sword attacks and Psynergy (with Djinn)...
Vaati, the Ganon of the Four Sword Saga, with a transform move like Zelda's in order to switch between his human form from Minish Cap to his monster form...
And my personal stage wish list even though it doesn't really fit in this topic...
~Lost Woods (with Skull Kids, Moblins, and more) ~Outset Island (with giant pig that rampages around when struck) ~Atop castle in Wind Waker final battle ~Hyrule Castle (Classic or new) ~Inside/Outside Great Fox (fight inside until someone blown through wall, then outside) ~Starfox/Starwolf battle (jumping between arwings) ~Venus Lighthouse ~Saffron City (Classic or new) ~Big Blue (Return Stage remixed) ~Princess Peach's castle (not only with Bullet Bills, but also goombas and koopas) ~Super Mario 3 (World 1-4, ex. moving platforms) ~Luigi's Mansion (with ghosts) ~Mushroom Kingdom (Return Stage remixed) ~Jolly Roger Bay (Eel level from SM64) ~Fourside (Return Stage remixed) ~Brinstar w/ Ridley ~Dark Aether (with light crystal spheres...you take constant damage if you leave the areas and slowly gain health when you are in them) ~Kraid (Return Stage remixed) ~Pokemon Stadium (Outside) ~Pikmin (Forest-themed stage)

Pyoro would be cool, but I don't think he'll ever escape warioware. His tounge could be used as a grappling hook, and he could spit seeds.
If Wario was included, would it be platform Wario, or Warioware wario. Or maybe Warioman. Either way I have always wanted him in the series, he would meld pretty easily. It would be fun if he included all his transformation he's gone through, or his hats from his first game. Wario is such a changing character it would be hard to choose which one of his variations to go with.
King Dedede would be very cool. He could hover, use his hammer, inhale and spit out enemys, preform his high jump, and maybe even have some of his dark matter stuff. Meta knight would be extremly cool, after playing Nightmare in Dreamland as him it's easy to see how well he would work in Smash Bros. He controlled in a similiar fashion.
Bill I really like your stage ideas, especially the Dark Aether one. I think more moving stages would be great, even though my friends hate them.

Dark Aether and the Starfox/Starwolf battles sound absolutely awesome. Some of the others seem kinda weak or bland, but most of those are awesome suggestions. I assume there'd be a swaying effect in the SM64 boat battle?
I also insist that they finally make a Paper Mario stage, preferably one from Paper Mario 2. Maybe atop Doopliss's tower, with ghosts and him shapeshifting into the playing characters and whatnot.

Though stages that move and what not are great, I liked Final Destination for the sole fact that (without items) it was mono-y-mono. It was the best stage for tournaments since it didn't help anyone and it was completely flat so no one could run or something. Perfect for what I wanted.
Other characters would be nice but if they didn't include Roy; I would probably murder someone/thing/nothing.

I agree wholeheartedly about the Final Destination thing, Don'tHate. My friends and I played more there than anywhere else. We usually went bare bones skill when we played this game, especially my one friend and I (the only other person I know that can keep up with me). We take off all items and fight at Final Destination, because that takes actual skill. A level like Final Destination definitely needs to be in the next one.
Title: RE:What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?
Post by: Don'tHate742 on February 28, 2005, 02:11:49 AM
Wow, that sounds exactly like my situation with my friends. There's only one friend that can keep up with me but I almost always win. Usually it's Roy (me) vs. Link (him), but we switch it up everynow and then (I like link and pichu haha; crazy little bugger). I don't really need more charachters. What I really want is more strategy and moves with those characters. The dodge aspect was perfect for the SSB world, and I think there are many other little things that can add greatly to the gameplay. They should add a parry tactic, along with the dodge. You would use dodge for things like dodging Samus's charge up beam or dodging an attack in air. You would use parry when your on the ground right next to someone and they attack you normally (only normally/smash; no specials). The way you would execute it, is by dodging like you would except that you have to time it right (similar to Roy and Marth's down B, where you press it as your being hit, then it will reverse the hit onto the attack; greatest move ever by the way). Same idea, but instead of dealing out damage immediately, the attack would be stunned in a way where he/she couldn't do anything; except parry your attack. Then you can either throw them (which can't be parried) or smash attack them or whatever.
Also the ability to catch things....easily would be nice. I forsee a situation where a teammate is getting whooped, while your handling your business with another enemy. You have the bat, so you deal with your enemy, then throw the bat to your teammate across the map (like Hyrule Castle). They catch it in mid-air, turn and throw the bat at the enemy, or land and use it properly. The way you turn in mid-air should be changed, becuase you cant without doing a special, if I remember correctly. Also, I hate getting hit by those damn bomb-oms.
For throwing people, there should be a smash throw; becuase really, throws aren't that great at all unless there at 170% or something. So you grab the person then perfrom a smash throw, which should be hard to do so only advanced players can do it. Imagine Mario grabing someone, but instead of just twirling and throwing, he spins really fast using the person to injure other enemies as he moves accross the board (in the direction you tell him to) then he throws the person into oblivion. Samus's up throw should be her slamming the person against the ground with her grappling hook so they bounce up (whatever the damage percentage the person has) the she jumps up and bicycle kicks the person way up into the air. Speaking of samus, she should be able to grab people out of the air with her grappling beam (same with link). Also mid-air throws would be nice.
I think i've said this before but I always thought it would be better if everyone could some how transform. Like young link could transform into Zora link as well as Goron and Deku...each balanced and with there own specials (though I do like the idea of cel-shaded link). Mario could turn into fire Mario (obviously with more powers), or the mario that can turn people to stone, or even paint or metal mario. Samus could do it on a minor level where one of her moves could be switched in and out. She could fire ice, wave, and magma beams; along with each special missle combo. It might get alittle tricky with those characters that have remained the same over their game life. Link could whip out the biggoron sword and maybe even his hover boots. But anyways, this would make for more decked out charachters that are all around the same, which allows for more crazy strategic battles, but also insansely dangerous gameplay, especially coupled with items and level interactivity. It would keep everyone on there toes.

Haha, Pichu. If ever we're playing a non-serious match and we're short one human player, level one or two Pichu is almost always the computer player When my good friend and I have bob-omb matches (all bob-ombs, very high, in Whispy Woods) we set two Pichus. Pichu rocks, and is a definite keeper.
I know what you mean with Marth/Roy, but that's take the wind out of their sails, to a degree. I use Marth, and know how useful it can be, but a large part of the strategy relies on who you pick. I think if they have something like a parry for everyone it should be extremely hard to execute and happen more by coicidence than anything else. Like catching items is now.
However, I'm not sure a smash throw should be that hard. That gives another advantage to senior players, who already have skill. I think it should certainly be possible for all players, just a little harder to pull off, maybe only 1.5 or 2 times as strong as a normal throw.

That is exactly how my friends are too. All of them suck, except one who can keep up with me. Me and him have matches every now and then. My characters are Jigglypuff or Falco while his are Pikachu or Samus. Falco dominates all, but hell, Jigglypuff hold's her own. She can easily defeat Pikachu, but gets beat (not badly, by like one life) by Samus, but Samus gets smuthered by Falco. There's a balance in our games, and it's fun as hell.

A parry tactic wouldn't really dillute Roy and Marth's reverse moves, because they can do just that; REVERSE moves. No other players can do that, they can simply dodge and retaliate. So Roy and Marth are still at an advantage. As long as Roy and Marth can reverse let's say Gannon's super punch of death, then there is no problem letting other players have a similar tactic. Also you can parry after your attack has been parried, unlike where Roy immediately deals damage.

Bill: You got a great list of levels.
What I would like to see is about 5 generic level designs. These would be just simple levels that can played without much gimmick to the game. I think a great theme for these levels would be giant toy level. What I mean is, since the story seems to be playing with your toys (capturing a child's imgination) lets run with it.
Have the generic levels be outside in a backyard. On a Kitchen Table. Setup around a Lego base, and a few more as such.
Then the game themed levels I want a cool gimmick for all the levels. Like your Athers example. It makes the level play differently.
I would love a Mario Level that you can warp using pipes. Even set up combos where you can Smash attack someone up or down a pipe and warp them away from you.
How about another level which tears in reality are affecting the play. These levels random tears appear and you can jump into these warp tears to get away or knock people into them...where you pop out nobody knows.

This could work for a Yoshi's Story or Paper Mario level, in which the background rips...That would make the most sense and we'd get another fun little level to boot!
Title: RE:What characters would you like to see in the next SSB?
Post by: Spak-Spang on March 01, 2005, 10:15:59 AM
Bill. That is great. The tearing idea with Paper Mario would totally work. The animation for that could be very cool. Sliding through the paper, and seeing you pop through the level somewhere else.
You could even have the tears last the entire round. The more holes in the level the more likely you will knock someone out or be able to escape attack.
I also wouldn't mind a level that has foreground objects to hide what you are doing. Nothing extreme, but say in the backyard level or a Pikmin level have blades of grass that hide some of he action.
Last if they could design special rules for top-down perspective play, it would be cool to do an oldskool throwback to some top-down games. You can have an old school Zelda level, and a level based on Earthbound as well top down.

A mario warp-pipe level would be awesome. I think that if you smash attack someone into a warp-pipe, when they reach the other side, they should fly out with the same momentum they went in with. I think it would be halarious if they used the old school teleporting animation. Even if you get hit into it, you see your character stop, stand up facing the screen, and then teleport down into the pipe. Then when they reach the end they fly out. I always thought a Super Metriod level would've been great. Where at one moment everything is calm, and you kill people like you normal would. Then you see old school Samus in the background destroy that huge Braind thing, and then she runs of the screen. At that point, the stage turns frantic where you have to climb up (similar to the ice-climbers stage), but this time you also have to run to the side where some side-scrolling takes place. There are traps (randomly generated) and such on the way. And you can kill people by hitting them into those traps or in the oppisite direction the screen is scrolling. Anyways, once you do it get out. A big counter appears, where your soppose to get on samus's ship (which should be bigger). You fight king of the hill style on top. Then once the counter runs out, samus's ship leaves....with the people that are on it. Then while in space you could have an exaggerated jump....
I am taking this too far....but it would be nice if there were levels that did more than provide a fighting platform. Maybe a mini-adventure ala SSBM.
Anyways a coop adventure mode and coop event mode are a must. Now about the player limit in those coop levels (2...3...4?). Who knows. It would seem more intimate (not in a sexual way) if there were only 2 players as oppose to 4. Then again look at 4 swords....

No, this isn't taking it too far...I'd love to see this, be it an actual multiplayer map or an adventure level (Fighting with Samus or another enemy until you have the final battle aboard the ship)...I personally love levels that make you pay attention to how your environment is changing as much as on your opponents (Big Blue, Rainbow Ride, etc)
And I, too, want a 2-player adventure mode...
