Title: Question about MM
Post by: The Omen on January 10, 2004, 11:19:25 AM
Is it imperative to beat OoT before playing Majoras Mask?  I just got my bonus collectors disc, and have never played MM before.  I'm still in the Shadow temple in OoT, and havent played it in awhile but does MM contain any story elements from OoT, perhaps spoiling OoTs ending ?

Hmmm  I haven't played either game in a really long time, but i don't think that it's absolutely neccessary to play OoT before MM.  You will find multiple references to OoT in MM, but you just won't catch them if you haven't played it all the way through yet.  But then, you're in the shadow temple so you're almost done with OoT.  Come to think of it, though, the begining of MM refers directly to the end of OoT.  Just for the sake of things, I think it would be best to finish OoT before you jump into MM.

Well if you haven't played OoT then you might not understand the reason for Link's travels at the beginning of MM...But that's about it...

Although it's not completely required, I would highly recommend playing Ocarina of Time first.  Like Jedi said before, while it's not necessary, there are multiple references to Ocarina in Majora's Mask.  Being a parallel universe, there are many characters that are carried over from Ocarina, as well as several other tidbits.

Pretty much, play through Ocarina first.  You don't need to, but you'll find that Majora's Mask is more enjoyable if you do.  You'll also look at some of the things in it and say, "Hey, I remember that from the last game", which makes it overall very satisfying.

If you don't beat it now, you'll never get around to it.  My words of gamer wisdom for the day.

Yeah, i'll just beat OoT first.  I'm a stickler for details.  The shadow temple, for some reason, has me stuck.  I finally get through the water temple, and this is the reward?

Find lots of keys.  Lots.

Use Din's Fire on the spikey wooden wall.  Toss bombies into the rotating skulls.

Argh I hate those two dungeons. Water is too long
and Shadow is too confusing. At least the Spirit temple is good

Im playing on MM and ive just passed the 1st temple. Yay!

Majora's Mask doesn't contain any spoilers from Ocarina of Time, although the game sometimes refers to OoT. But if you've come as far as to the Shadow Temple, you've practically seen everything in OoT; but of course some elements are repeated; the Gerudo Fortress sneaking business returns in MM, and so do a lot of things.

Oh, the Water Temple... surely a unique experience... I remember wandering aimlessly while fiddling with the water levels... quite a challenge; in my humble opinion, one of the most difficult dungeons ever to appear in a Zelda game...

Majora's Mask's temples are just as marvelously designed as those on Ocarina of Time... I fondly remember the hours spent on Great Bay Temple, the water nightmare rewritten... currents moving back and forth... just to get to Stone Tower Temple and discover that yes, things could get even worse...  and that comes for the best; I guess no one wants to play a Zelda game that features dungeons and environments which are as easy to explore as their respective bosses are to defeat...

I thought the fire was had the most difficult tasks.  As for the water I find it confusing but not hard.

Eventually

SPOILER I GUESS!

The skull kid refers to a forest child that taught him that song, Saria's Song.  I can only think of Saria.  You didn't teach anybody, nothing was said about the blonde one teaching, and the same goes for mido.  It has to be Saria.

Yes, I think the forest child has to be Saria as well. Mido thinks only about himself and Saria, so he wouldn't bother to teach some stupid skullkid Saria's song, would he?
And Link was to busy fighting evil, so he couldn't have teached him the song either. What bothers me though, does Kafei ever return to normal? I found all the masks, and at the ending sequence you don't see him. Does anybody know if he returns to normal?
