The Super Mario Galaxy movie continues to chug along.

Estimates of the US box office have the second weekend of the animated feature tracking for $69m US, and an 11-day total of approximately $308.1m. Internationally, the film has taken in an estimated $320.6m through Sunday.

Mario Galaxy was not the only game related property to hit the box office top 10 this weekend: the movie based on indie game Exit 8 began a limited engagement (495 theatres, while the Mario Galaxy movie has more than 4,000) and took in an estimated $1.6m.

Hmmm, it's falling faster week over week than the first movie. But a drop in the 40s isn't too horrible, its just the first movie's hold in the 30s was insane! Not sure if this movie makes a billion worldwide, but it still can if it has some staying power and a good tail. It DOES have more competition from other good movies in the space though, and it just isn't as novel/landmark as the first movie.

I think economic conditions are also affecting these results. While it may not match the earnings from the first film it should be plenty profitable.

Well, that and people online aren't treating this movie with kid gloves like they did the first (mediocre) Illumination Mario movie. This is generally considered worse than the last movie, and far more blatant a commercial.
