Title: Wireless Wavebird Controller?

Greetings everyone! This is my first time on the forums but I have a quick question for all y'all ;-]. The day after Thanksgiving Wal-Mart had a special deal on GameCubes, $79.99 for the system with a controller and Zelda demo disk! I couldn't resist, so I picked on up. Until this point the only console I had was an Xbox, but I've always secretly wanted a gamecube so I could play it's exclusive games ;-].
Anyway, while I was there I picked up an extra controller and two controller extension cables (I like to sit in my recliner and play) which came to $25. I noticed today while I was at Babbages (Gamestop by a different name) that there was a first party wireless controller called the Wavebird. I was tempted to buy it and then return the one normal controller I bought & it's extension cable. I guess I just wanted to see what you guys thought about it. Is it as good as the regular controller? Are there any interferance issues? Is it worth another $10? What kind of experience have you guys had with it?

the wavebird is excellent. i haven't used a regular controller since picking up a wavebird over a year ago. the only downside to the wavebird is the lack of a rumble. personally, i typically turn off the rumble feature on most games, so i don't miss it at all, but if you're a big fan, you may want to rethink the wavebird.

If you get a Wavebird (and you absolutely should) get the funky new platnium one they just released. It's pretty cool looking. The only issue with the Wavebird is that it doesn't have rumble but I think that's a fair trade off for wireless gaming. The Wavebird works so well that even if someone walks between the console and the controller it will still work. You can lock your Cube in a safe and it will work.
Oh it uses batteries but that's not really an issue since realistically it couldn't work any other way. The battery life for it is quite good. I think I've change my batteries only one or two times in the year or so I've owned one.

batteries last about 100 hours, i got a wavebird when nintendo first shipped them and only replaced batteries 3 times. And from the Wavebird i dont like chorded controllers that much anymore and its beating the crap out of my PS2 in play time.

My dog loved my extension cords. He doesn't love my WaveBird as much.

The WaveBird performs just as well as the original corded Nintendo GameCibe controller, but without the rumble. I have seen them going for $29.99 at most places now-a-days which is $5.00 less than the usual price - making the WaveBird only $5.00 more than an official Nintendo corded GameCube controller.

lol Yeah. Little kids are fascinated by the fact that they can control Mario with out having a cord hooked up to the cube, yet they find little interest in garage door openers which are exactly the same but with different buttons. I love Wavebirds though. I am slowly phazing out my old, restricting corded ones with wavebirds. Only 2 left!

Thanks for all of your input! I actually just got back from Meijer where I picked one up after seeing a few positive responses here at the board! I couldn't find any of the "Funky New Platinum" ones, so I guess I'll just have to settle with the standard gray ;-]. I just wanted to make sure they were good because I've played with some pretty crappy controllers (<COUGH!>Mad Catz<COUGH!>). I thought being 1st party it couldn't be too bad but I wanted to double check before dropping my hard earned $$$.

1st Post ever: Whoo.
The Wavebird is brilliant. Any pad that let me play my games from DOWNSTAIRS and/or not have to worry about the cables tangling up, is more than worth the money you pay for it (about £30 here). Also the battery power last aaages - I've only had to change mine twice, and I got the WaveBird last Christmas! ^.^

no, you do not have to worry about any interferance whatso-ever. you can play it at the neighboors house. its 900 MHz, so of course theres no interferance. and yes, they are worth it, the second best controller ever concieved to video games.
the best, of course, if the Logitech wireless x-box controller, the comfort grip is excellent, the d-pad conforms wonderfully to your finger - ive never experienced such a wonderful feeling d-pad. and the excellent extroverted analog sticks. *DROOLS*
yeah, get that, and get the logitech xbox wireless after y oure done with that...

Hmmm... Does the logitech wireless XB controller have the memory card ports on the controller itself or connected to the XBOX? I'm asking because it would suck if I couldn't plug my XBL headset into it.

I've read that the WB is 2.4GHz. Someone contacted NOA about it, and that was the responce they got. And like all RF devices, it can lose signal.

matt - no, its connected to the cords on the xbox. if ALL that you play on your xbox is live, than, i guess it would be kind of a futile purchase. but if you ever play anything outside of live you have GOT to give this wonderfull ergonomic design a chance. ive never felt a controler so comfortable. too bad its $69.99, meh, for me its $49 anyway

the logitecs are really nice, i tested one at best buy. If only they made one for gamecube. Not that i don't like the wave bird, i've got 4 of them! It's just that, the logitechs i don't know, feel more expensive in your hand. They are kindof expensibe though. Oh well, until then, Wavebirds Rock!
